Day
Estimada comunidad
de St. Hilda’s:
A medida que nos preparamos para Founder’s Day, me
gustaría recordarles los detalles para el próximo sábado
7 de junio. Todos los alumnos
deben estar en el colegio a
las 10 hs. con el uniforme
reglamentario completo y
se dirigirán directamente a su aula. Luego, cruzarán
al Trinity Hall, donde comenzará la ceremonia para
todo el colegio a las 10.30 hs. Después se ofrecerá
un refrigerio, para más tarde iniciar los partidos tradicionales entre alumnos y ex alumnos. Todos los
miembros de nuestra comunidad son bienvenidos a
quedarse y disfrutar de este momento en el cual celebramos 102 años de historia de nuestro gran colegio.
En los últimos días he recibido varias comunicaciones elogiando el rendimiento de los alumnos. Sobre
el final de la semana pasada se anunciaron que tres
alumnas obtuvieron primeros puestos en la Argentina por sus exámenes de Cambridge realizados en
noviembre de 2013. Fueron mencionadas brevemente en el Comunicado Semanal anterior, pero sus
logros merecen una aclaración más detallada. Se
rinden miles de exámenes de Cambridge cada año,
por lo que obtener un primer puesto en la Argentina
es algo excepcional y un reflejo positivo de sus habilidades, sus familias y el colegio. El hecho de que
de St. Hilda’s logra estos resultados frecuentemente,
es un gran indicador de que nuestras expectativas y
clima académico está funcionando bien. Las alumnas
que merecen nuestras felicitaciones son:

Como mencionara la semana pasada, para demostrar
la importancia que tienen estos logros, los premios
Sábado, 7 de junio
se entregarán a la alumnas en una ceremonia el 10
de junio que contará con la presencia de SM Embajador Dr. John Freeman y el Sr. Richard Gilby del CIE.
Además, y en el ámbito deportivo, Denver Gregory
(Año 6) fue seleccionado para jugar al cricket con la
Academia Nacional U14 Argentina que entrenará durante el invierno, y en octubre jugará un torneo internacional cuadrangular contra Chile, Perú y Brasil.
Fue seleccionado en base a sus esfuerzos durante el
verano jugando en la primera y segunda división de
Varones en el Hurlingham Club, y después de una serie de prácticas recientes con más de 40 chicos intentando obtener el puesto. El cricket es un deporte que
recién se está desarrollando aquí en St. Hilda, por lo
que es agradable tener a un alumno que alcance este
nivel tan rápidamente.
Felicitaciones a todos estos alumnos que han alcanzado importantes logros en sus áreas. Los resultados
de su esfuerzo, dedicación y trabajo duro deben celebrarse, y confío en que muchos otros alumnos se
inspirarán a partir de ellos y que se esforzarán por
alcanzar niveles similares en las áreas que sean de
su interés. Espero enterarme en el futuro de muchos
más logros y compartirlos con ustedes.
Por último, quiero sugerirles a las familias que deseen inscribir nuevos hijos para el año 2015 que lo
hagan antes del fin de junio. Estamos recibiendo varias solicitudes de admisiones para el año que viene
y no queremos que nuestras familias actuales pierdan cupos, especialmente en el Jardín de Infantes.
Espero verlos a todos el próximo sábado 7 de junio
en la conmemoración de Founder’s Day.

Efemérides
A lo largo de estas últimas semanas, en la Sala de 2
estuvimos trabajando la secuencia “Efemérides”. Tomamos como disparador inquietudes de los chicos
por los símbolos patrios, aprovechando así la posibilidad de trabajar contenidos como el sentido de pertenencia, colores y formas. ¡Qué gran desafío!
Nos estamos divirtiendo un montón en la sala; el
grupo disfruta de las distintas posibilidades que se
les fueron dando en las distintas actividades, donde
el movimiento, el jugar con el cuerpo y enfrentarse a
nuevos desafíos les saca una lindísima sonrisa. ¡Muy
bien!

Reunión informativa exámenes de Cambridge
Jueves 5 de junio - 8.15 hs
Invitamos a los padres de los alumnos de Años 10,11
y 12 a una reunión informativa el jueves 5 de junio
a las 8.15 hs. para tratar el tema de los exámenes de
Cambridge y sus niveles IGCSE, AS y A. Se explicará
el proceso del examen de Cambridge; cómo identificar sitios web y recursos que los alumnos pueden
utilizar para prepararse para su examen, como así
también, el costo y proceso de pago.

Las maestras de 1° y 2° Año estamos muy agradecidas a todos los padres y abuelos que ayudan en la
Biblioteca en nuestro proyecto de lectura in inglés.
El lunes, el Sr. Andrés Hatum (papá de Vicky) preparó
El lunes 26 de mayo los alumnos de IGCSE y AS Art &
Design visitaron ArteBA, acompañados por las profesoras de Arte Natalia De Paoli y Natalia Bargo, quienes
guiaron a los chicos en esta experiencia indicándoles
qué pintores y galerías visitar. ArteBA es una experiencia única para estar en contacto con las nuevas
tendencias en el arte contemporáneo latinoamericano,
conocer a sus protagonistas y disfrutar del arte.

Esta semana enviamos las invitaciones a todos los
alumnos que deseen participar de este musical. Los
alumnos que fueron seleccionados para los roles
principales ya comenzaron sus ensayos.

puesto en el Torneo Intercolegial
de Hockey ESPN.

Viaje a San Antonio de Areco
Departamento de Música
El jueves 22 de mayo salimos para San Antonio de
Areco con alumnos de los equipos First de Rugby,
Hockey y Vóley. Durante la mañana del jueves, luego
de recibirnos con un rico desayuno en Los Naranjos,
lugar donde nos alojamos, realizamos un city tour
guiado. Después del almuerzo visitamos el Museo
Las Lilas (pinturas de Molina Campos) y luego entrenamos con todos los deportes para acondicionarnos

al partido del día siguiente. Terminados los entrenamientos visitamos La Olla de Cobre, una fábrica de
chocolate en donde nos explicaron el proceso de su
elaboración. Nuestras alumnas de Vóley jugaron 5 sets con el CEF
(Centro de Educación Física) de San Andrés de Giles, imponiéndose en un vibrante partido, donde los
remates cruzados y los saques de potencia se apoderaban del triunfo. Mientras las alumnas de Vóley
jugaban, los varones del First de Rugby preparaban y
cocinaban el asado. También visitamos el Museo Mariano Güiraldes, donde las antigüedades del pueblo
sorprendieron a nuestros alumnos.
Fue complicado jugar los partidos de Hockey, ya que
debido a la lluvia la cancha del Colegio San Antonio
tenía mucha agua, por lo que se prepararon dos
canchas pequeñas para jugar con menos alumnas.
Nuestro First perdió, pero los partidos fueron más
que interesantes. Las corridas de nuestras jugadoras
y los quites en todo momento le dieron al encuentro
mucho interés, haciéndolo realmente emotivo.
También estaba muy húmedo para jugar al Rugby,
pero este deporte se puede jugar igual. Comenzamos el primer tiempo con dos tries abajo y finalmente vencieron nuestros alumnos al Colegio San Antonio de Areco por 21 a 12. Comenzó tibio, y en el segundo tiempo se desató la lluvia de tackles, buenas
jugadas y tries, que fueron el camino a la victoria.
Agradezco a Chris, Marina y Valeria que acompañaron al grupo y trabajaron sobre él. También felicito
a todos los alumnos, ya que su comportamiento fue
ejemplar y cumplimos ampliamente con el objetivo
del viaje: valorizar al grupo, el trabajo en equipo y
la camaradería, sin depender de un resultado en especial, basándose en la convivencia y las relaciones
interpersonales con pares y adultos.

Headmaster’s Notes
Dear St. Hilda’s
community,
Greetings. As the build up
for Founder’s Day continues, I would like to remind
you of the details for next
Saturday 7 June. All students need to be at school
in dress uniform by 10am
and report directly to their
home room. From there, they will make their way
to the Trinity Sum for the whole school ceremony
which starts at 10:30am which will be followed by
morning tea and then the annual Alumni vs current students’ sports matches. All members of our
community are welcome to stay and enjoy this
time as we celebrate 102 years of history of our
great school.
In the past few days, I have received several notices of commendable student achievement. At the
end of last week it was announced that 3 students
have placed 1st in Argentina for their Cambridge
examinations written in November 2013. They
were mentioned briefly in last week’s newsletter
but their achievements deserve further explanation. Thousands of Cambridge examinations
are sat every year so to achieve the top mark in
Argentina for a subject is outstanding and a positive reflection on their abilities, their families and
the school. The fact that St Hilda’s consistently
achieves these results is a great indication that our
expectations and academic climate here is working well. The students who deserve our congratulations are:

As mentioned last week, as a measure of the high
esteem in which these student’s achievements are

Day
Saturday 7 June
held, their prizes will be presented at a ceremony
on June 10th which will be attended by HM Ambassador Dr John Freeman and Mr Richard Gilby from
CIE.
Also, in the sporting arena, Denver Gregory (Grade
6) has received news of his selection for the Argentine U14 National Academy cricket side which
will train over winter and then play in an international quadrangular tournament against Chile,
Peru and Brazil in October. He was selected based
on his efforts over the summer playing in the Hurlingham Club Men’s 1st and 2nd Division teams, and
after a series of recent trials with over 40 boys trying to make the side. Cricket is a sport that is being developed here at St Hilda’s so it is pleasing to
have a pupil reach this level so quickly.
Congratulations to all these students who have
achieved at the top levels in their areas. The results
of their effort, dedication and hard work are worth
celebrating and I trust that many other students
will take inspiration from them and strive to reach
similar levels wherever their interests lie. I look
forward to hearing of, and sharing with you, many
more achievements by our students in the future.
Finally, can I encourage any families who wish to
enrol new children for 2015 to begin the process
before the end of June? We are having expressions of interest in our school for next year and
I don’t want our current families to miss out on
places, especially in Kindergarten.

June for the Founder’s Day commemorations.

On Monday, Mr. Andrés Hatum (Vicky’s Dad) prepared for Year 2 a wonderful puppet show: “Little
Red Riding Hood and the Magic Lollipop”. It was
very funny and we all enjoyed it a lot! Thank you

Secondary News
On this day in History...
Over these recent weeks we are working on
“Efemérides” (On this day in History…) with the
2yo. The trigger to start this sequence was the curiosity that arose within the group towards patriotic symbols, giving the children the opportunity to
work concepts such as sense of belonging, colours
and shapes. What a great challenge!
We are having lots of fun in the classroom! The
group enjoys the different possibilities that are being given in various activities, where movement,
playing with the body and facing new challenges
make them smile proudly. Great job 2yo!

Reading Project
Y1 and Y2 teachers are very grateful to all the parents and grandparents who come to help us with
our Reading Project in the Library.
Cambridge Exam Information Meeting
Thursday 5 June - 8.15 am
We would like to invite parents of years 10, 11 and
12 to an information meeting on Thursday 5 June
at 8.15 am regarding the Cambridge IGCSE, AS
and A levels. It will explain the Cambridge examination process; identify websites and resources
students can use to prepare for their exam, as well
as the cost and payment process.
Visit ArteBA
On Monday May 26th IGCSE and AS Art & Design students visited ArteBA, accompanied by Art
teachers Natalia De Paoli and Natalia Bargo, who
led the students in this experience indicating the
artists and galleries to visit. ArteBA is always a
unique experience to get the feel of current Latinamerican art and its new trends and artists.

Trip to San Antonio de Areco
Music Department
On Thursday May 22, we went to San Antonio de
Areco with the First Rugby, Hockey and Volleyball
teams. After being received at Hotel “Los Naranjos” with a delicious breakfast that morning, we
went on a guided tour of the city. After lunch we
visited the “Las Lilas” Museum (Molina Campos
paintings) and then trained in all sports to prepare

for next day’s matches. Later, we visited the chocolate factory “La Olla de Cobre”, where we learnt
about the chocolate-making process.
Our Volleyball students played 5 sets with CEF
(Centre for Physical Education) of San Andrés de
Giles, winning in a vibrant game where cross court
shots and powerful serves seized the game. Whilst
the Volleyball girls played their match, the First
Rugby boys prepared and cooked the barbecue.
We also visited the Mariano Güiraldes Museum,
where the town’s antiques surprised our students.
Because the Colegio San Antonio pitches still had
water due to rain, playing the Hockey games was
complicated. They prepared two small courts and
we played with fewer students. Our First Team lost
but in a very gripping game. Our students’ fast
pace and their interceptions gave the match a lot
of drama, making it an exciting game.
It was also pretty damp to play Rugby, but this
sport can be played in these conditions. We started the first half with two tries down, but our students eventually won by 21-12 against Colegio San
Antonio. The beginning the match was slow but
the second half was filled with tackles, great plays
and tries, leading the team to victory.
I would like to thank Chris, Marina and Valeria who
accompanied and worked with the group. I would
also like to congratulate all the students as their
behaviour was praiseworthy and we were able to
fulfill the objective of the trip: to value the group,
promote teamwork and camaraderie, without relying on any particular outcome, based on getting
along and interpersonal relationships with peers
and adults.
