Echinoderms with clay. Math: We have been working with fractions. I

Echinoderms with clay.
Math: We have been working with fractions. I have to say the students are responding well to this
unit. Fractions can be hard to understand and most of the kids can already name parts of
collections. They can also identify equivalent fractions which is really great.
Theme: We finished the Coral Reef theme with great success. We have started our new theme,
Food Chain. This time your child will learn the way living things get their food. We are going to
make a food web with the animals from our ocean mural. The children will also study the process
of how plants make their own food through photosynthesis.
Reading and Writing: We finished our shared reading book, Back to School Fright from the Black
Lagoon. Shared reading gets better every time; each student is learning to use different strategies to
comprehend the reading.
We have also finished poetry and right now the kids are illustrating their poems. We’ll invite you
very soon to present our projects and other activities we have done in class.
I’m very happy to inform you we are working with a new phonics program, which will help your
child to recognize words and meanings in texts. This way they’ll become better readers and writers.

Queridos padres:
Queremos agradecer a aquellos padres que asistieron al Acto del 26 de febrero. L@s
niñ@s prepararon su participación con mucha dedicación y entusiasmo. ¡Nos sentimos
muy orgullosas de lo bien que lo hicieron!
En sociales, nos encontramos finalizando nuestro tema Ecosistemas de mi isla y, como
actividad de cierre, vamos a realizar la tan esperada visita al Rancho Baiguate.
Comenzamos a ejercitarnos en la escritura de cartas amistosas y hemos seleccionado
personajes literarios como destinatarios de nuestras misivas. Como siempre, l@s
niñ@s nos han sorprendido con sus ocurrencias y calidad de sus preguntas y
comentarios apropiados.
Del mismo modo, continuamos con nuestro proceso de publicación de cuentos, ahora
hemos incorporado poemas y canciones.
Casi todos los niños y niñas del curso están leyendo interesantes libros de capítulos en
su lectura independiente y se encentran escribiendo nuevos cuentos, llenos de
descripciones y detalles. En círculo de lectura, seguimos leyendo “Elefante corazón de
pájaro”.
Continuamos enviando tarea de lectura los lunes y miércoles. En lo posible, asegúrese
de su hij@ lea al menos 15 minutos cada día. Es importante crear el hábito desde
pequeños.
Les reiteramos que estamos a su disposición para cualquier consulta que deseen
hacernos, sólo debe llamar a Gina y hacer una cita con ella.
