THE REASON FOR OUR HOPE
“What is the reason for your hope?”
Imagine somebody coming up to you and
asking you that question. Not “What are
you hoping for?” or “What are you hoping
to do?” No, this isn’t about our desires for
possessions or aspirations for life, it’s
“Why do you hope?” Peter today tells us that we ought
to be ready to give an answer to this question. Truth be
told, few of us spend much time thinking about why we
hope. Luckily, the scriptures today give us our answers.
We hope because Christ suffered for us, in order that
we might come to God. We hope because we know
that, in the Spirit, God grants us another Advocate
through Christ to remain with us always. No matter
what we might hope for, whatever we might hope to
do, we must always first know and proclaim the reason
for our hope: the presence of God in Christ, with us

RAZÓN DE NUESTRA ESPERANZA
“¿Cuál es la razón de tu esperanza?”.
Imagina que alguien se te acerca y te hace
esa pregunta. No “¿qué es lo que esperas?”
o ¿qué esperas hacer?”. No; no se trata de
los deseos de poseer cosas o de aspiraciones en la vida, sino “¿por qué tienes esperanza?”. Hoy
Pedro nos dice que debemos estar dispuestos a responder esta pregunta. A decir verdad, pocos son los
que se dedican a pensar por qué tenemos esperanza.
Por suerte, las Escrituras de hoy nos ofrecen la respuesta. Esperamos porque Cristo sufrió por nosotros, a
fin de que podamos venir a Dios. Esperamos porque sabemos que, en el Espíritu, Dios nos concede otro Defensor en Cristo que permanecerá con nosotros por siempre. Sin importar lo que podamos esperar, o lo que esperamos poder hacer, siempre debemos saber y proclamar la razón de nuestra esperanza: la presencia de Dios

To date, 245 of households of our parish have contributed (either through a one time gift or pledge to be paid
through the year) $58,169, bringing us to 53% of our
goal of $108,000. Thank you to those who have participated in the support of our diocesan Church! While we
are ahead of last year’s participation, we are still quite
far from our goal. Next Sunday is the final Sunday of
appeal (called “Amen Sunday”). To help us reach closer
to our goal, we will take up a special second collection
at all the Masses for the Annual Catholic Appeal. If you have
not made a contribution yet, Bishop Kicanas will be pleased
with the gift you can give to help him provide needed ministries
and services within the church of the Diocese of Tucson.

A la fecha, el 245 de familias de nuestra parroquia

In observance of this national holiday, the parish
offices will be closed on Monday, May 30th. However, the regular 8:00 AM Daily Mass will be celebrated as usual. The offices will re-open at our regularly schedule times on Tuesday, May 31st.
Feast of the Ascension
Most of the dioceses in the United States have transferred this feast from Thursday (the
40th day after Easter—Thursday, June 2nd this year) to the Sunday following that
Thursday.
Therefore, we will not celebrate this feast this coming Thursday, but rather next Sunday (June 5th) on what is also the Seventh Sunday of Easter.

Steubenville West is coming to the UofA Campus
July 22-24.. This is a great retreat weekend for
High Students. This event is open to groups only. Worship,
Share, and meet other Catholic young people. Listen to national speakers have a fun filled weekend at this event. If
you are interested in attending, there is a deposit of $35 and
$140 will be due by July 1st. Please contact Lisa at [email protected] so we can send in our group registration.
HS Youth Group will be meeting during the summer on the
3rd Wednesday of each month. Look to the bulletin for announcements of other summer time activities. Next meeting
is Wednesday, June 15th.

Novena por el Día de los Padres
Fathers’ Day Novena
Por motivo de la celebración del Día de los Padres,
tendremos una Novena de Misas. La novena
comenzará con la misa del Sábado 18 de junio a las
5:00 pm e incluirá todas las misas del Domingo 19
de junio (Día del Padre) además de las misas de le
semana hasta el Jueves 23 de junio.
Pueden registrar a sus padres, suegros,
abuelos en la Novena escribiendo sus nombres en el
sobre que se envió para este propósito en sus
paquetes de sobres de donación (sobres adicionales
se pueden encontrar en una mesa a le entrada de la
Iglesia). El sobre puede ser entregado en cualquiera
de las colectas durante los siguientes tres fines de
semana. El último plazo para hacerlo será en la misa
de las 8:00 am del Sábado 18 de junio.
In celebration of Fathers’ Day, we will have a
Novena of Masses. The series of 9 Masses will begin
with the Anticipated Mass of Sunday at 5:00 PM on
Saturday June 18th and include every Mass on Sunday, June 19th (Fathers’ Day) through the Daily Mass
of Thursday, June 23rd.
You can enroll your father, father-in-law,
grandfather (living or deceased) in the Novena simply
by writing his/their name(s) on the Novena Envelope
(included in the donation envelope packet as well as
available on the table in the vestibule next weekend)
and submitting the envelope with your contribution to
the parish in the regular collections over the next
three weekends. Final turn in time is the 8:00 AM
Mass on Saturday, June 18th.
