Calendar of Events
Regulations for Fast and Abstinence
Fasting is to be observed by all, 18 years of age and older, who have not yet
celebrated their 59th birthday. On a fast day, one full is allowed. Two other
meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s
needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Easting between
meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and juices, are allowed.
Abstinence is observed by all 14 years of age and older. On days of abstinence no meat is allowed. Note that when health or ability to work would be
seriously affected, the law does not oblige. When in doubt concerning fast
and abstinence, the parish priest should be consulted.
Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are the three traditional disciplines of Lent.
The faithful and catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a
spirit of penance and preparation for baptism or of renewal or of baptism at
Easter.

Dios Perdona sin Condiciones
Página de Internet: www.stmarysterling.com
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Piadosamente, al final de alguna novela
en la que el personaje malvado acaba
encerrado en un manicomio, muerto, o
paralizo del cuello para abajo, alguien
dice que Dios hizo su justica. Curiosamente, la misma persona que lo dice a
menudo es el personaje bueno y excelente
que estaría dispuesta a perdonar y
empezar de nuevo. La misericordia de
Dios no es menos que la humana, sino
todo lo contrario. Lo que a veces los
humanos no podemos perdonar. Dios lo
perdona ampliamente y sin condiciones.
¿Por qué, entonces adjudicarle a Dios la
especie de venganza o retribución que se
refleja en estas novelas? A todos nos
pueden ocurrir cosas malas, y no siempre
podríamos remontarnos a una grave
ofensa para explicar el origen de tal mal.
Como, en las catástrofes naturales, no
podríamos decir que los sufrimientos de
las víctimas se deben a sus pecados. Ni
tampoco a la voluntad de Dios. Eso
equivaldría a decir que Dios es un ser
cruel…nada más lejos de la definición de
la identidad de Dios: Dios es amor. Y la
voluntad de Dios no es que suframos, sino
que utilicemos nuestro sufrimiento para
nuestro crecimiento y para el bien de los
demás.
Oración
Señor Jesús, tú nos vas abriendo caminos en
la vida y nos vas mostrando tu voluntad por
medio de los acontecimientos y de las
necesidades que encontramos a nuestro
alrededor. Concédenos, por intercesión de tu
amiga, Francisca de Roma, descubrir y seguir
fielmente tus caminos para nuestra vida. Que,
por sus oraciones, encontremos la felicidad en
dondequiera que estemos viviendo en tu
presencia. Que tú, Señor, seas siempre
nuestra alegría, como lo fuiste en al vida de
Francisca. Amen
Lo que sí pueden ofrecer las catástrofes,
las enfermedades y el mal que sufrimos es
una ocasión de reflexionar sobre la propia
vida y sobre lo que de verdad es
importante para nosotros. Es un momento
de poner todas las cosas en perspectiva y
ver si de verdad le damos prioridad a lo
central en nuestra vida: el estar cerca de
Dios, el vivir nuestra vida de familia con
amor, aunque cuete sacrificio, el buscar el
bien de los demás, el comprometernos con
la comunidad en que vivimos...El dinero,
el avance material, el progreso, son
buenos si aseguran el futuro de nuestra
familia y comunidad, pero no son el
significado absoluto de la vida. No
deberían ocupar el lugar de Dios, ni de lo
que, a nivel más profundo, valoramos
más. Si tanto los males o las alegrías nos
distraen de lo central, que es más. Si
tanto los males o las alegrías nos distraen
de lo central, que es Dios, perdemos de
vista quiénes somos y, sobre todo, de
quiénes somos.
Para la Reflexión
¿Qué problemas he vivido últimamente?
¿Los he provechado para acercarme más a
Dios?
