The City of Miami is once again joining forces

its own NET Offices and community partners
to assist employees and residents with their
2014 income tax preparation.

The City of Miami has over 20 City-sponsored locations offering
free tax preparation assistance and other important resources
such as FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) using
the Benefit Bank (TBB) as part of this year’s campaign. These
services are provided through April 15th.

What to bring to your tax preparation site
• A Social Security card or Individual Taxpayer
Identification Number (ITIN) for each family member
• Valid picture ID (driver’s license, state ID, Passport,
Matricula Consular, etc.)
• W-2 1099 forms for all jobs worked in 2014
• All 1099 forms for other income, if any
• Child care provider name, address, and tax ID.
• Any other tax-related documents you have received
• Voided bank check for automatic deposit
• A copy of last year’s tax return
• All adults on you return need to be present.
Employees or residents wishing to file their tax returns at these sites
can learn if they qualify to receive a federal income tax refund of up to
$6,143 via the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and up to an additional
$1000 per child via the Child Tax Credit (CTC). In addition to free tax
preparation, all City of Miami sites are able to provide electronic filing
for both taxes and other benefits to provide a quicker turn around.
Partner sites using the Benefit Bank can handle tax returns whose
household incomes do not exceed $65,000. You can call 311 for
operational hours at each location.
Our IRS partnered sites (3) are appropriate for household incomes
that do not exceed $52,427.

How does The Benefit Bank work?
Tax Preparation Assistance

Each year the City of Miami partners with the Internal
Revenue Service (IRS) to offer FREE tax preparation at
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) super sites.
These locations offer FREE tax preparation services
with convenient hours for all City residents.
>Child care provider name and tax I.D. number, if applicable
>Bank account number and routing number, if you
want direct deposit of your refund check
>Education Credit forms, if applicable (1098T and 1098E)
Super sites are staffed by volunteer tax preparers who
have been trained to answer questions and prepare
residents’ returns. These sites are open from late
January through mid-April each year on weeknights
and Saturdays. Additional FREE tax preparation sites
near you are open on weekdays and on Saturdays (see
back panel).* If you have any questions regarding the

The Benefit Bank (TBB)
What do you need to bring to a tax
preparation session?
The City of Miami will offer another FREE tax assistance
option at all 11 Neighborhood Enhancement Team (NET)
offices throughout the City, known as The Benefit Bank
(TBB). TBB is an internet-based service for low and
moderate-income working families and individuals that
can help increase their incomes dramatically. By entering
basic information, a user can have their taxes completed,
and use the same program to apply and determine
eligibility for other state/federal benefits he/she might
qualify for, including:

Individuals (“clients”) sit side by side with counselors
who assist them with entering vital information into an
internet-based system.
Once the client provides all the necessary information,
TBB completes the tax return or other benefit application
and submits electronic applications, or prints out paper
applications. TBB remembers all the client information,
so it does not need to be reentered. On average, a
TBB tax preparation session takes only 40 minutes, so
feel free to call the NET office nearest you to schedule a
tax assistance preparation appointment.
Can immigrants claim the EITC?
Yes, legal immigrants who have a Social Security
Number which allows them to work in the U.S.
can claim the credit if they meet all the eligibility
requirements. Immigrant workers must establish
legal residency in the U.S. and live here for the
entire tax year in order to qualify. To be considered,
qualifying children must have lived in the U.S. with
the taxpayer for at least six months of the current
tax year.
