SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT
First Reading: Isaiah 40:1-5, 9-11
Isaiah emphasizes that from the desert to the mountains,
all people must prepare for “the glory of the Lord to be
revealed.” Rather than looking only at God’s power, Isaiah focuses on God’s kindness, comparing it to a shepherd
who feeds and cares for his flock.
Second Reading: 2 Peter 3:8-14
For those who are impatient for the Second Coming, Peter
explains that time is different to God than to people. He
reminds them that they should be grateful for the extra
time to prepare, and concentrate on striving to become all
that God would want them to be.
Gospel: Mark 1:1-8
In this passage, John the Baptist stressed the importance
of the coming of the Messiah. He acknowledged that he
was only the messenger, and unfit to “stoop and untie his
sandal straps.” John urged them to prepare for one far
holier than he, who would walk among them.

IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
The Church celebrates the Immaculate Conception of Our Lady on Monday December 8th. This feast means
that Mary was always free from sin,
starting from conception from her
parents. The Rectory office will be
closed on Monday in observance of
this feast . Masses will be at 8:00am for all Parishioners . 5:30pm in English and 7:00pm in Spanish.

FIRST COMMUNION ORIENTATION
All Parents of children receiving First Communion
in May/June 2015 need to attend the orientation
meeting on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 5:45 PM
(Spanish). This orientation is mandatory and it is a
requirement for your child to receive his/her first
communion. The presence of at least one parent is
required. If you cannot attend, please delegate an
adult representative. Failure to do so will result in
your child not receiving First Communion this year.

In order to get a sponsor certificate letter or Immigration letter, you need to be registered as a parishioner. A parishioner is someone who:
1.Has registered and has been active at least 2
months prior to the appointment.
2.Active (attends mass on Sundays and uses the envelope for collections.). Rectory staff will verify
if a person is an active parishioner. If you have
not registered in our parish, please register by
meeting with the receptionist Mon-Fri 9AM5PM.

OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE
This Sunday, December 7th at 12:00pm,
there will be a procession in honor of
Our Lady of Guadalupe, starting from
Plainfield Public Library and ending at
St. Mary’s Church. Next Tuesday, December 9th, the Torch of the Basilica of
the Virgin of Guadalupe in Mexico
reaches St. Mary’s at 7:00 PM, followed
by the Mass. On Thursday, December 11th, at 10:30
PM, we will begin the Vigil for the Feast of the Virgin of Guadalupe with a procession continued with
prayer and music in church. The celebration will be
conducted by musical bands with marimba & traditional mariachi music from groups of the Parish. It
will conclude with Mass at 5:30 AM.
MASS CALENDAR 2015
The new calendar book for the 2015 masses opened on
November 5th. Parishioners can reserve a Mass for any
good cause, and the priest who celebrates the Mass will
offer it for this intention.

IMMACULADA CONCEPCION
Este lunes, 8 de diciembre,
es la fiesta de la Inmaculada Concepción de la Virgen María. Celebramos la
obra salvadora de Dios en la preservación de la Bienaventurada Virgen María de la mancha del pecado
original. Ella es la patrona de nuestro país y siempre
es un día de precepto en los E.U. Por lo tanto la oficina de la Parroquia estará cerrada este día. Misas
serán a las 8:00 AM para todos los Parroquianos.

ORIENTACIÓN DE PRIMERA
COMMUNIÓN
Todos los padres de los niños que recibirán la Primera Comunión en mayo / junio 2015 tienen que asistir
a la reunión de orientación el jueves 11 de diciembre
2014 a las 5:45 PM (Español). Esta orientación es obligatoria y es un requisito para que el niño reciba la
primera comunión. Se requiere la presencia de al menos uno de los padres. Si Usted no puede asistir, por
favor delegue a un representante adulto. De no hacerlo, dará lugar a que su hijo/a no reciba la Primera
Comunión este año. Estas orientaciones son sólo para los padres (no para los niños).

Para obtener cartas de Inmigración, para ser madrina o padrino debe estar registrado como parroquiano. Un parroquiano registrado es alquien que:
1. Se ha registrado y ha estado activo por los menos

CELEBRACION EN HONOR A LA VIRGEN DE GUADALUPE
Este domingo 7, a las 12PM, hay una
procesión en honor a la Virgen de
Guadalupe, comenzando en la Biblioteca Pública de Plainfield y terminando en la Parroquia Santa Maria.
El próximo martes, 9 de Diciembre la
Antorcha de la Basílica de la Virgen
de Guadalupe de México llegara a la Iglesia Santa
María a las 7:00PM, El Jueves 11 de Diciembre a las
10:30PM, vamos a comenzar la Vigilia de la fiesta de
la Virgen de Guadalupe con una procesión, que termina en la Iglesia donde vamos a seguir con la oración y la música. La celebración concluirá con la Misa de las 5:30AM, con música de mariachi tradicional. Y otras bandas musicales de grupos de la Iglesia.
CALENDARIO DE MISA 2015
El libro de Intenciones de Misa para el año 2015 ya está
abierto. Todos los parroquianos pueden reservar las Misas
por cualquier buena intención y el sacerdote que celebre la
Misa la ofrecerá por esa intención. Este nuevo año, permitiremos mas de una intención en las misas en español.

FROM POPE FRANCIS
Commenting on the Book of the Prophet Isaiah (40:1-11),
also known as the Book of the Consolation of Israel, the
Pontiff reflected on the consolation which God grants to
his people. The Lord himself “draws near to console them,
to give them peace,” he said. And in this way, the Lord
“accomplishes a great work”, for he “refashions all things,
he recreates them”. This recreation, he added, is even
more beautiful than creation itself.
The Pope explained that God’s people were awaiting the
Lord’s coming, they knew he would visit them. He said:
“Let us recall the last words of Joseph to his brothers: ’God
will visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here’.
The Lord would visit his people. This was Israel’s hope.
And he would visit them with this consolation: he would
make all things new. Not once, but again and again”.
“When the Lord draws near to us, he gives us hope,” Pope
Francis said. He refashions all things with hope. He always opens a door”. In the Christian life, he added, this
hope “is a true strength, it is a grace, it is a gift”. In fact, he
said, “when the Christian loses hope his life no longer has
meaning. It is as though he were standing before a wall,
faced with nothingness”. But the Lord consoles us and refashions us in hope so that we might continue on”.
The Lord is close to each one of us in a special way, the
Pope then said. Citing the concluding verse of the passage
from Isaiah, he said: “He will feed his flock like a shepherd, he will gather the lambs in his arms, he will carry
them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with
young” (v. 11). “It is the image of tenderness,” he said.
“The Lord consoles us with tenderness. The Lord, the
great God, is not afraid of tenderness. He becomes tenderness, he becomes a baby, he make himself little. In the
Gospel Jesus himself says: ‘it is the will of my Father in
heaven that not one of these little ones should perish’” (Mt
18:14). Therefore, the Pope explained, “each one of us is
very, very important” to the Lord.
“This was Jesus’ great work,” he said, in the forty days
that passed from the time of his Resurrection to his glorious Ascension: “consoling the disciples, drawing near to
them to console them, drawing near to them to give them
hope, drawing near to them with tenderness. Let us think
of the tenderness he showed to the Apostles, to Mary
Magdalene, to the disciples on the road to Emmaus”. And
it is always so, he said, even with us. Yet, Pope Francis
concluded, we must ask the Lord for the grace “not to be
afraid of the Lord’s consolation, not to be afraid of being
open, of asking for it, of searching for it, for it is a consolation that gives us hope and makes us feel the tenderness of
God the Father”.

El cristiano que pierde la esperanza pierde el sentido mismo de
su existencia y es como si viviese ante un muro. Abrir las puertas
al encuentro con el Señor significa recibir de Él ese consuelo que
nos restituye, con ternura, la esperanza. La homilía del Papa
Francisco en la misa celebrada el martes 10, por la mañana, en la
capilla de Santa Marta, se centró precisamente en ese consuelo de
la ternura con el cual el Señor recrea la esperanza en el cristiano.
Citando el libro del profeta Isaías (40,1-11), llamado «el libro de la
consolación de Israel», el Pontífice se centró, en efecto, en la consolación que Dios invoca para su pueblo. Es el Señor mismo
quien «se acerca para consolarlo, para darle paz». Y así «realiza
un gran trabajo», porque Él «hace nuevas todas las cosas, las recrea». Esta «re-creación», añadió, es aún más bella que la creación. Por lo tanto, el Señor visita a su pueblo «recreando». En
realidad, el pueblo de Dios esperaba esta visita, sabía que el Señor la realizaría. «Recordemos —destacó al respecto el Santo Padre— las últimas palabras de José a sus hermanos: cuando el
Señor os visite, llevad con vosotros mis huesos». Así, añadió, «el
Señor visitará a su pueblo. Es la esperanza de Israel. Y lo visitará
con esta consolación: rehacer todo. No una vez, sino muchas veces». De este «rehacer» del Señor, el Obispo de Roma indicó algunas líneas maestras. Ante todo, «cuando el Señor se acerca nos
da esperanza. Por lo tanto —aclaró— rehace con la esperanza.
Abre siempre una puerta». Cuando el Señor se acerca a nosotros,
no cierra puertas sino que las abre; y luego cuando viene, «viene
con las puertas abiertas». En la vida cristiana, esta esperanza «es
una verdadera fortaleza, es una gracia, es un don». En efecto,
cuando «el cristiano pierde la esperanza, su vida ya no tiene sentido. Es como si su vida estuviese ante un muro, ante la nada.
Pero el Señor nos consuela y nos rehace con la esperanza, para
seguir adelante». Lo hace también con una cercanía especial a
cada uno de nosotros. Para explicarlo, el Pontífice citó el versículo conclusivo del pasaje de Isaías propuesto por la liturgia:
«Como un pastor que apacienta el rebaño, reúne con su brazo los
corderos y los lleva sobre el pecho; cuida él mismo a las ovejas
que crían». Y comentó: «es la imagen de la ternura. El Señor nos
consuela con ternura. El Señor, el gran Dios, no tiene miedo de la
ternura. Él se hace ternura, se hace niño, se hace pequeño». Por lo
demás, «en el Evangelio Jesús mismo lo dice: no es voluntad de
vuestro Padre que está en el cielo que se pierda ni uno de estos
pequeños» (Mateo 18,12-14). Porque, explicó el Pontífice, «cada
uno de nosotros es muy, muy importante» para el Señor, quien
nos hace «caminar adelante de todos dándonos la esperanza».
Este «fue el gran trabajo de Jesús» en los cuarenta días que van
de la Resurrección a la Ascensión: «Consolar a los discípulos,
acercarse a dar consuelo, acercarse a dar esperanza, acercarse con
ternura. Pensemos —dijo el Papa— en la ternura que tuvo con
los apóstoles, con la Magdalena, con los de Emaús». Y es siempre
así. También con nosotros. Sin embargo, debemos pedir la gracia
al Señor «de no tener miedo a la consolación del Señor —afirmó
concluyendo—, de estar abiertos, pedirla, buscarla porque es un
consuelo que nos dará esperanza y nos hará sentir la ternura de
Dios Padre».
