PARISH STEWARDSHIP OFFERING
“Well done my good and
faithful servant”
GOD BLESS YOU & THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
The classes are required for parents and Godparents.
Parents must be registered, participating members
of the parish for at least two months, Godparents
must be practicing Catholics who have received
Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation, and if they
are couples must be married by the Catholic
Church.
Please call the church office at least four
to six months in advance. A pre-marriage program is
required. Call parish office for more information.
(Christian Initiation for adults and children 7 years and older): For
more information please call at 407-656-3113.
Please notify us when you would like a hospital
or home visit.
We believe that life long learning and growing is healthy
for all ages and stages. We also expect that we as adults,
youth or children will continue to grow and learn our
faith for our entire life. We encourage all youth; Kindergarten to Grade 12 to participate in Religious Education.
Every child should be receiving education in their faith
every year. Every adult should continue to read, study
share the Scriptures, their faith and their prayer with
others. We know that a relationship with Christ is so important that we require a minimum of one or two years of
Religious Education before preparing for the Sacraments
of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation. Religious
Education is for every year that our child is in school, not
just when they are preparing for a sacrament. If your
child is not participating please call at 407-656-3113 x4 or
email Maryann McFerrin [email protected] to
see how we can assist you with Religious Education.
We will have registration for our 2016-2017
Religious Education classes today Sunday, May
8 at 9:15am and 12:45pm and Wednesday,
May 11@ 3:00pm and @ 7:00pm. Please bring
your child’s baptismal certificate so we can
make a copy. Come now if you want to reserve
a spot for your children or grandchildren.
Online registration will be open on May 16th.

To mark the Jubilee Year of Mercy, on Divine Mercy Sunday we placed a painting in
Church. It’s a replica of the beautiful painting “Forgiven” by Thomas Blackshear (1992).
Thomas Blackshear is an African-American Evangelical Artist. The replica has a history of
its own! It was reproduced by Viktor Tsyganko, an Ukranian artist who was educated at
the prestigious Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Industry in St. Petersburg. He came to
the US in 1990 leading a nomadic lifestyle on the streets of New York and in various institutions. According to information found online, Viktor is now given residency and antipsychotic medication by Art Pathways, an organization which uses creative recovery
treatments to assist artists and writers who face homelessness. His work has been included in a number of exhibits in New York including the Cork Gallery, at the Lincoln Center.
A few years ago, we asked Viktor to paint a replica of Thomas Blackshear’s FORGIVEN,
because it’s a beautiful metaphor of Christ’s mercy. And now it’s hanging on our Church
wall by the Confessional, the place where many experience the tender embrace of God’s
forgiveness, so as to help us remember the theme of MERCY, that our Holy Father is offering ad a leitmotif for this special Jubilee year.
A devotional book by Roy Lessin, published in 1996, offers a biblical explanation of the
different aspects of the painting by Thomas Blackshear.
DARKNESS: The dark background of the painting signifies sin. It is the world of darkness within us that the light of Jesus Christ seeks to invade (see John 3:19: The light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light.”)
GUILT - MALLET AND SPIKE. The mallet and the spike in the man’s hands are reminders that each of us is responsible
for the death of Jesus Christ on the Cross The young man does not let go of the mallet and the spike. Yet he is
obviously remorseful, sad. This is symbolic of the character of addiction that every sin has. We are not able to let
go.
REPENTANCE – THE YOUNG MAN. The contemporary man in the painting is in despair and ready to fall to the ground.
His expression carries the pain of sin, and his helplessness reflects total dependence on Jesus Christ for his salvation
MERCY – THE LORD JESUS. The figure upholding the repentant man is the Risen Lord, the transfigured Lord who receives and redeems all who have been broken by the power of sin. His eyes are closed, because He does not see,
does not take into account our sins. He is the face of God’s mercy! See Luke 4:18-19: "The Spirit of the Lord is
upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the
Lord."
STRENGTH – THE HANDS OF JESUS. Jesus’ hands are slightly oversized, disproportionate, showing strength. They remind us that we cannot rely on our own strength. We are totally dependent upon the Lord. The wounded right
hand of the Lord in pressing on the heart of the young man, the heart wounded by sin and betrayal.
REDEMPTION - THE BLOOD OF GOLGOTHA. The setting of “Forgiven” is Mount Calvary, the place where Jesus was crucified. Here he died, here he shed his blood so that we may be forgiven. See 1 Peter 1:18-19: ‘You were ransomed
from your futile conduct, handed on by your ancestors, not with perishable things like silver or gold but with the
precious blood of Christ as of a spotless unblemished lamb.”
RESURRECTION – THE LILIES. The Lilies in “Forgiven” remind us of the Lord’s beauty and our worship and adoration of
Him, the Lily of the Valley and the rose of Sharon (Song of Solomon 2:1). Often called the "white-robed apostles of
hope," lilies were found growing in the Garden of Gethsemane after Christ's agony. Tradition has it that the beautiful white lilies sprung up where drops of Christ's sweat fell to the ground in his final hours of sorrow and deep
distress. Lilies are the Easter flowers.
ABSOLUTION. The hug, the embrace that the repentant young man receives from Christ is a powerful symbol of absolution, the declaration of forgiveness of our sins when we recognize in Jesus the divine power to forgive.

NOSSA MISSÃO
Jesus ascende aos céus. Começa a missão da Igreja. Os seus seguidores são enviados como
evangelizadores, para anunciar a Boa Nova do Reino onde quer que estejam.
A mesma missão é dada a todos batizados.
