As we begin Advent we are called to "wait" in joyful
anticipation for the grace of Christmas to once again bless
our lives. Wherever you live in our parish, there are poor
families within walking distance of your home. When in
need, they ring the rectory bell. They are, in effect,
ringing your doorbell.
Your gift to St. Vincent de Paul will help the poor
celebrate the grace of God’s love this Christmas.
Hours: Tuesdays 1 - 3 pm, Fridays & Saturdays 10 am - 12 Noon
Christmas Flower Offering
Christmas Flower Offering envelopes are
available in the pews and at the
entrance of the church. If you would like
to make an offering in memory/honor of a
loved one, please make a donation by Monday,
December 21st to have their names published in
the Christmas bulletin.
Annual Giving Tree
Don’t forget to pick a tag and return it with
the gift item and gift bag to the Giving Tree
or the parish office by Monday,
December 14th. All gifts will be
given to foster children in our
local area. What a wonderful
way
to
brighten
their
Christmas.

Children’s Mass ~ Dec 3rd
This Thursday’s Mass at 2:45 pm will be an
“Explain-A-Mass.” Especially for the children,
but open to all. Fr. Ben will explain
the various mass parts.
Fr. Ben Notes:
Years ago I taught a workshop
from some Portland author’s book called
Unplug the Christmas Machine. It was
about getting our priorities straight. One
of the lines from the book that I often
quoted was, “Children want a house of
love and affection, not one decorated to
perfection.”
Advent is a season about getting
our priorities straight. It is a busy time of
the year, a dark time and for us: a wet
time. Advent is the beginning of the new
Church year. It is NOT a minor Lent, but
a time of preparation, anticipation and
waiting. The first few weeks are
anticipating the 2nd coming of Christ and
the last nine days the coming of Christ
into the world to dispel the darkness.
Let’s keep our priorities in order,
do not get distracted by the busyness of
the season but be about expressing the
love and affection of God to one another.

ADVENT ROSARY
A half hour before mass,
we will pray the rosary.
Each weekend we will
pray a different set of
mysteries, so in the 4
weeks we cover the entire
20 mysteries. The
reflections come from Fr. Peyton, the
rosary priest famous for his quote: “The
family that prays together stays together.”
Adult Faith Formation
Thursday, Dec. 3, 7-8 p.m.
in the auditorium
It’s Advent, a time to reflect on The Holy Family,
homeless and fleeing into Egypt to escape violence
and death. As Catholics, what do these stories
mean to us in our own lives and times? We see
poverty and alienation in our communities. An
historic migration of refugees is under way around
the globe. The Church has long been in the
forefront of building a civilization of love that
accepts everyone, regardless of religion, ethnicity
or social and economic status. At our next session
we will explore what we can do in this effort. A
video on Catholic Social Teaching and statements
by Pope Francis will help focus the discussion led
by Ed Mosey.
Knights of Columbus
5th Sunday Rosary Program
Today after the Spanish Mass!
With the intention of helping to bring St. Mary
parishioners together, and to promote increased
devotion to our patroness, the Knights of Columbus and
our local Council are beginning a new church activity,
entitled the 5th Sunday Rosary Program. Starting
Nov. 29th, immediately following the Spanish Mass,
Knights of Columbus will lead a bilingual Rosary. We
will continue this activity whenever there is a 5th
Sunday in a month, specifically Nov. 29, Jan. 31, and
May 29.
All parishioners are invited to attend!
Anointing of the Sick
During the Advent season, it is traditional
that we have a communal celebration of
this sacrament. We will offer it after the
Saturday Mass at St. Francis de Sales on
Dec. 5th and between the Sunday Masses in
Astoria at 9:45 am Dec. 6th. This sacrament
is for those who are sick, facing surgery, or
of advanced age. This is a chance for us to
gather and pray for each other.

Hace años que impartí un taller de un
libro de un autor de Portland llamado
Desconecta la máquina de la Navidad. Se
trataba de tener nuestras prioridades rectas.
Fue una de las líneas del libro que muy
seguido citaba, "Los niños quieren una casa
de amor y afecto, no una decorada a la
perfección."
Adviento es una temporada para tener
nuestras prioridades rectas. Es un tiempo
ajetreado del año, un tiempo oscuro y para
nosotros: un tiempo húmedo. Adviento es el
comienzo del año nuevo de la iglesia. NO es
una Cuaresma de menor importancia, pero un
tiempo de preparación, anticipación y espera.
Las primeras semanas están anticipando la 2ª
venida de Cristo y los últimos nueve días la
venida de Cristo al mundo para disipar las
tinieblas.
Vamos a mantener nuestras prioridades
en orden, no distraerse con el ajetreo de la
temporada si no que sea acerca de expresar el
amor y el cariño de Dios uno al otro.
Felicidades a las hijas católicas por su
exitoso evento el sábado pasado.

Ofrenda de Flores para navidad
Los sobres para las flores de
ofrenda de Navidad, están
disponibles en las bancas y en la
entrada de la iglesia. Si desea
hacer una ofrenda en memoria/honor a
un ser querido, por favor haga una
donación para el lunes, 21 de diciembre
para que sus nombres sean impresos en
el boletín de navidad.

Rosario del quinto domingo
Con la intención de ayudar a reunir St. Mary
feligreses y a promover la creciente devoción a
nuestra patrona, los caballeros de Colón están
empezando una nueva actividad de la iglesia,
titulada el programa del Rosario del quinto
domingo.
A partir del 29 de noviembre,
inmediatamente después de la Misa en español, los
caballeros de Colón rezarán un Rosario bilingüe.
Vamos a continuar esta actividad siempre que haya
un quinto domingo en un mes, específicamente el
29 de noviembre, 31 de enero y 29 de mayo.
Todos los feligreses están invitados a
participar.
Vamos a celebrar la novena!
Del 4 de diciembre al 12 de diciembre a las
7:00 de la noche. En honor a nuestra Señora
de Guadalupe. Este es un Rosario especial con
meditaciones sobre San Juan Diego y su
primer encuentro con la virgen y su jornada
hasta que nuestra Señora de Guadalupe dejo
su imagen en su tilma.
UN ROSARIO DE ADVIENTO
Media hora antes de la
Misa, rezaremos el
Rosario. Cada fin de
semana rezaremos un
conjunto diferente de los
misterios, por lo que en
las 4 semanas cubriremos
todos los 20 misterios. Las reflexiones
vienen del padre Peyton, el sacerdote del
Rosario famoso por su cita: "la familia que
ora unida permanece unida.”
Unción de los enfermos
Durante el tiempo de Adviento es una
tradición que tenemos una celebración
comunitaria de este Sacramento. Lo
ofreceremos después de la Misa del sábado
en St. Francis de Sales el 5 de diciembre y
entre las Misas del domingo en Astoria a
las 9:45 del 6 de diciembre. Este
Sacramento es para aquellos que están
enfermos, o que tendrán una cirugía, o de
edad avanzada. Esta es una oportunidad
para reunirse y orar los unos por los otros.
La próxima clase para bautizo será el
segundo domingo de Diciembre después
de la misa de español en la iglesia.
