2011!
I’m writing for the first time this year, a
very important year for us. A year of
change. First of all, I would like to
thank those who for nearly 5 years
(we’ll celebrate our 5th anniversary the
first week-end of June in Ibiza with a
gala) have believed, collaborated,
supported and criticized us and for this
reason have made our magazine better
issue after issue.
You’ll notice the change right away.
Night&Day, a young magazine made by
young people, is based on real values: no
trees were cut to print it, rather we
recycled construction aggregates
without contaminating, consuming or
polluting water.
We are proud of this change which is for
us, for you and maybe one day even for
our children.
We are the first magazine in the world
to do so and we have decided to tell
everyone.
For this reason we will present our
magazine in Miami during the Ultra
Music Festival, and we will be on a tour
of the most important European cities

and finally at our home, in Ibiza and
Formentera. I would like to express my
final opinion about our beautiful islands
but that should apply everywhere. We
must respect.
Those who travel or immigrate to a
country must respect their culture,
language and traditions.
Respect means integration and also
talking the language of the natives,
which is the first form of respect. In the
same way I want to say to the natives
that the beauty of these two pearls of
the Balearic Islands was just the fact
that everyone were accepted and
respected. I think it’s wrong to believe
that if you come from a place you have
more rights than others. Miami can be a
good example of respect and tolerance.
Thanks again, long live 2011! And
remember, now more than ever, that you
are the star!

¡ARRIBA
EL 2011!
Quien os escribe lo hace por primera vez este
año, un año muy importante para nosotros.
Un año lleno de cambios.
Ante todo quisiera agradecer a todos los que
durante casi 5 años (celebraremos nuestros 5
años el primer fin de semana de junio en Ibiza
con un gala) han confiado en nosotros: todos
los que han colaborado, nos han respaldado y
también criticado, porque esto nos ha
convertido en una revista cada vez mejor,
número tras número. En seguida notaréis el
cambio. Night&Day es una revista joven que
está hecha por jóvenes y se basa en unos
valores auténticos: para imprimirla no se ha
talado ningún árbol, sino que se han reciclado
los residuos de la construcción, sin consumir
ni contaminar el agua. Estamos muy
orgullosos de este cambio que es para
nosotros, para vosotros, y quizás un día
también, para nuestros hijos. Nuestra revista
es la primera en el mundo que piensa en ello y
hemos decidido decíroslo a todos. Por eso
presentaremos nuestra revista en Miami
durante la Ultra Music Festival y también
estaremos presentes con un tour en las
capitales europeas más importantes para
acabar en casa, es decir, en Ibiza y
Formentera. Quisiera expresar una última
opinión sobre nuestras preciosas islas, pero
que se debe aplicar en cualquier lugar.
Tenemos que respetar. Los turistas o los
emigrantes tienen que respetar la cultura, la
lengua y las tradiciones del país a donde van.
Respeto significa integrarse y, por lo tanto,
también hablar la lengua de los nativos como
primer signo de respeto. De la misma forma
quiero decir a los autóctonos que lo bonito de
estas dos perlas de las Baleares es el hecho de
que se acepta y respeta a todo el mundo. Creo
que no es justo pensar que por ser originario
de un lugar tienes más derechos que los
demás. Miami nos puede servir como ejemplo
de respeto y tolerancia.
Gracias de nuevo, ¡arriba el 2011! Y no te
olvides de que ahora más que nunca ¡tú eres
el protagonista!

Carl Cox and Safehouse Management have
confirmed they will be returning to Space,
Ibiza for a groundbreaking, 10th
consecutive year.
They’ll be pulling out all the stops for this
landmark anniversary, and are inviting
everyone who’s heading to Ibiza this summer
to join the celebration.
The opening party kicks off at 8pm on
Tuesday 5th July and runs throughout the
summer, closing on 20th September.

Where are you originally from?: In the UK,
in the north of England, Manchester.
We know you really love Ibiza. Tell us what
attracts you so much about the white island:
I think there is really no place like Ibiza in
the world. In my life I’ve been to many
resorts and tourist areas where people try to
copy the Ibiza spirit. I think it is a very
special place to be in the world.
Do you think Ibiza has changed for the
better or worse since the first time you came
here?: I think it has changed for the better:
for example, the road system is better and
safer than many years ago and times for
people to go clubbing is better because it
gives people an opportunity to rest.
What can you tell us about your business
relationship with Lynn and how has she
helped shape your career?: She is a very
special person. The reason why she does what
she does is because she loves music. We both
love what we do. She has been very important
for me and I’ve been very important for her.
Tell us about Carl Cox and Friends at Ultra
Music Festival: This year Ultra Music
Festival has sold out for the three days,
which means 55,000 people per day. That
gives you an idea of how important is for me
to be involved in Ultra.
This year is the 10th anniversary of Carl Cox
@Space Ibiza. How do you feel about it?:
I cannot believe it’s 10 years. It’s gone so
fast. Space and Ibiza are my two most
favourite things in the world. When I play it
is like playing at home – the crowds and the
parties are always amazing.
Tell us something about this upcoming 2011
season: Every year it gets better and better,
and this one will top them all. Expect world
class DJs, cutting edge sound and lighting
and one of the best atmospheres on the
island, along with a few extra special
surprises…
I just can’t wait to get back on the decks for
another mammoth season. Get ready for a
party!

Cuéntanos que es lo que te atrae tanto de la
isla blanca: Creo que no hay ningún otro sitio
en el mundo como Ibiza. En mi vida he
estado en muchos resorts y zonas turísticas
donde querían copiar el espíritu ibicenco.
Creo que es un sitio muy especial en el mundo.
¿Crees que Ibiza ha cambiado a mejor o a
peor desde la primera vez que estuviste?:
Creo que ha cambiado a mejor: por ejemplo,
las carreteras están en mejores condiciones y
son más seguras que hace muchos años y
también los horarios de las fiestas porque
dan a la gente la oportunidad de descansar.
¿Qué nos puedes decir de tu relación laboral
con Lynn? ¿Cómo te ha ayudado a dar forma
a tu carrera?: Lynn es una persona muy
especial. Lo que hace lo hace porque ama la
música. Los dos amamos lo que hacemos.
Ella ha sido muy importante para mí y yo
para ella.
Háblanos de Carl Cox and Friends en el
Ultra Music Festival: Este año las entradas
de los tres días del Ultra Music Festival se
han agotado, lo que significa 55.000 personas

2011: Cada año es mejor, y éste se prevé
superior a todos. Se esperan a los mejores
DJ del mundo, con el mejor sonido e
iluminación y uno de los mejores ambientes
de la isla, todo ello junto con sorpresas muy

Interview with Lynn Cosgrave of Safehouse,
the manager of Carl Cox
Name: Lynn Cosgrave
Where are you from?: Wales.
You and your company Safehouse are well
known in the industry, how did your career in
the dance music industry begin?:
I started as a DJ at college and it all developed from there.
What do you and your company Safehouse
do?: Safehouse is primarily an artist management company. However, we have also
developed a side that produced events around
the world, including Carl Cox and Friends
events and two nights in Ibiza.
Safehouse produces Carl Cox at Space which
is now one of the biggest parties in Ibiza,
what have you done to ensure that it stays so
strong for so many years?: Carl and I have
always put the customer first. From the start
we kept the door price as low as possible. Then
we bought in the best DJs across the world to
come and play with us. The first year many of
these DJs were unknown, now 10 years later
quite a few of them are household names.
Safehouse also produces a new event concept
Come Together, can you tell us more about
this event?: Come Together was born from
Pepe, he asked me to do another night at
Space, so we took a look at what was going on
and decided to move to a more “live” event.
Space had never done anything live so it was a
total thrill to do something different.
How would you define your job?:Hard work
but amazing - I am very lucky to have my job.
What is your favorite spot in Ibiza:
Can Caspero.
An obsession: Music.
Plans for the summer 2011:
Lots and lots of fun with great music.

principalmente una empresa de management
de artistas. Sin embargo, también hemos
desarrollado una parte que produce eventos en
todo el mundo, incluyendo a Carl Cox and
Friends y dos noches en Ibiza.
Safehouse produce a Carl Cox en Space que
ahora es una de mayores fiestas en Ibiza,
¿qué has hecho para que siguiese tan fuerte
durante tantos años?: Carl y yo siempre
hemos puesto al cliente en primer lugar. Desde
el principio hemos mantenido el precio de la
entrada lo más bajo posible. Además, hemos
traído a los mejores DJs del mundo para que
tocaran con nosotros. El primer año muchos
de los DJs eran desconocidos, ahora, después
de 10 años muchos de ellos son nombres muy
conocidos.
Safehouse también produce Come Together,
un nuevo evento-concepto, ¿nos puedes decir
algo más sobre este evento?: Come Together
nació de Pepe: me pidió organizar otra noche
en Space, así que echamos un vistazo a lo que
estaba pasando y decidimos montar un evento
más “live”. Space no había tenido nunca nada
en directo, por lo que fue muy emocionante
hacer algo totalmente distinto.
¿Cómo definirías tu trabajo?: Duro pero
increíble. Me siento muy afortunada por mi
trabajo.
¿Cuál es tu lugar favorito en Ibiza?:
Can Caspero.
Una obsesión: La música.

Name: Marco Carola
Where are you from?: Naples, Italy.
Can you tell us about the idea behind the
new album and why you chose to call it
‘Play It Loud!’?: In a funny way it’s kind of
like an instruction for how to use the
album. My music is basically groovy, and a
really important thing in my tracks is the
bassline - it won’t really make sense
otherwise. That’s why I named it this way,
it’s the way I think you should listen to it.
Would you say that your approach has
been very different to how you’ve
approached other albums?: Yes, honestly
it’s the first time I wanted to do a ‘dance’
album with my music - I didn’t want to go
far from what I’m already doing. I didn’t
want to do what many people do: when
they make an album they say ‘let’s do
something different’. But that was not my
idea: I’m good at what I’m doing. But the
difference is to put what I’m doing in a
different format. That’s why I did this mixed
version - that’s the difference between this
album and the one before.
Have your studio techniques and
production methods changed much since
you started working on this album?: Too
much! I’m really sorry to disappoint all the
analogue producers and DJs, that use
analogue stuff and basic, older concepts of
making music. I’m sorry to disappoint them because I changed to digital.
The clubs themselves and the atmosphere you experience on the good nights
become a big influence on what you do?: It’s not just the club, it’s about when you’re
home and listening to music, listening to promos, going out and seeing another
DJ - be involved in it.
Your DJ’ing schedule has obviously been extremely busy for many years, but from
what you say you still get excited by the nights and enjoy going to them: Yeah, if
it’s not a really horrible flight afterwards! I honestly enjoy most of them.
So when you’re touring, and when you begin your world tour in February, are there
any places that you particularly look forward to, places that you can’t wait to get
back to?: Probably the only place where I think about much in advance, that I’m
excited to do, is Amnesia in Ibiza.

¿De dónde eres?: De Nápoles, Italia.
¿Nos puedes hablar de la idea que hay detrás de
tu nuevo álbum y por qué le has llamado ‘Play It
Loud!’?: De una forma divertida es como una
instrucción de cómo utilizar el disco. Mi música
es básicamente groovy y un elemento muy
importante en mis temas son los bajos, de otra
forma no tendría sentido. Es por eso que lo llamé
así, para mí es la manera en la que se debería
escuchar.
¿Dirías que has utilizado un enfoque muy distinto
al de los demás álbumes?: Sí, realmente por
primera vez quise un álbum ‘dance’, no quería
alejarme de lo que ya estaba haciendo. No quería
hacer como mucha gente que cuando realiza un
disco dice “hacemos algo diferente”. Sin
embargo, esa no fue mi idea: soy bueno en lo que
hago, la diferencia está en hacerlo con un
formato distinto. Es por eso que hice una versión
mezclada. En eso se diferencia del álbum
anterior.
¿Tus técnicas en estudio y tus métodos de
producción han cambiado mucho desde que
empezaste a trabajar en este álbum?:
¡Demasiado! Siento mucho decepcionar a los
productores y DJs que trabajan en analógico,
que usan material analógico y unos conceptos
básicos y más antiguos de hacer música. Siento
decepcionarlos porque me cambié al digital.
¿Los locales y el ambiente que sientes en las
buenas fiestas tienen mucha influencia en lo que
haces?: No depende solo del club, también de
cuando estás en casa y escuchas música,
anuncios, cuando sales y ves a otros DJs, es
cuestión de vivirlo.
Durante muchos años has estado muy ocupado
pinchando aunque, por lo que cuentas, todavía
te emocionas en las fiestas y disfrutas yendo: Sí,
¡siempre que no tenga un vuelo horrible
después! Sinceramente, disfruto casi siempre.
Cuando estás de gira, y en febrero cuando
empieces tu gira mundial, ¿hay algún sitio en
especial al que no puedes esperar para volver?:
Seguramente el único sitio en el que pienso
mucho de antemano, que me emociona mucho,
es Amnesia en Ibiza.

Name: Erick Morillo
Where are you from?: My heritage is half
Colombian half Dominican. I grew up in
Colombia and in New Jersey.
Connection with Ibiza: I do a weekly party for
the last 11 years at Pacha, every Wednesday
from the beginning of June to the end of
September, called Subliminal Sessions.
Connection with Miami: Miami is a place I
moved to 5 years ago. Its weather is similar to
Ibiza in the summer: very warm, with palm
trees and a very chilled, laid-back attitude.
You are one of the most famous DJ’s in the
world with a very long career. Do you feel you
have had everything from music?: I feel I’ve had
a very good career but I still feel there are
more things that I want to accomplish.
When was the first time you played in Ibiza?:
The first time I played in Ibiza it was 1993. I
did a date at Space, I played at the Space
Terrace. It was such a great experience.
A memorable party: One of the most memorable
parties was when I played at Space Closing
Party in 2001. It was after the 9-11 attack; I
was the last DJ to play at the terrace and as my
last song I played Frank Sinatra’s “New York
New York”. It was really a spectacular moment.
Your favorite club in the world: Pacha New
York, Maki in Las Vegas and Pacha in Ibiza.
In your opinion, which is the capital of
electronic music?: No doubt England is still
playing a huge role in electronic music.
When and where are you playing at the WMC
2011?: For WMC I will be doing Subliminal
Records Parties with Harry Romero, José
Núñez and Anthony on March 10th and then for
Ultra a Subliminal Sessions Party with Harry
Romero, José Núñez and many other Subliminal
DJ’s. The 24th at Arkadia I will be holding my
annual birthday party and the 27th I will be on
the main stage of the Ultra Music Festival.
Would we see you playing in Ibiza this summer?
Where?: I can’t wait to start my residency at
Pacha Ibiza the first Wednesday of June.

Conexión con Ibiza: Desde hace 11 años hago
una fiesta semanal que se llama Subliminal
Sessions, en Pacha cada miércoles desde
principios de junio hasta finales de septiembre.
Conexión con Miami: Miami es el lugar al que
me mudé hace 5 años. Su clima se parece mucho
al de Ibiza en verano: mucho calor, con palmeras
y una actitud muy relajada.
Eres uno de los DJ más famosos del mundo con
una carrera muy larga. ¿Sientes que lo has
conseguido todo de la música?: Siento que he
tenido una carrera muy buena, aunque hay
muchas más cosas que quiero conseguir.
¿Cuándo tocaste por primera vez en Ibiza?:
La primera vez en Ibiza fue en 1993. Toqué
una noche en la terraza de Space. Fue una
experiencia increíble.
Una fiesta memorable: Una de las fiestas más
memorables fue cuando toqué en los cierres de
Space en 2001. Fue después del atentado del 11
de septiembre; yo tocaba el último y, como
última canción, puse “New York New York” de
Frank Sinatra. Fue un momento espectacular.
Tu club favorito del mundo: Pacha New York,
Maki en Las Vegas y Pacha en Ibiza.
Según tu opinión, ¿cuál es la capital de la música
electrónica?: Sin duda, Inglaterra todavía tiene
un papel importante en la música electrónica.
¿Cuándo y dónde tocarás en el WMC 2011?:
El 10 de marzo participaré en unas
Subliminal Records Parties con Harry
Romero, José Núñez y Anthony y luego, en el
Ultra, en una Subliminal Sessions Party con

After the amazing winter tour which has exported the name of Ibiza to different countries
such as Australia, Japan and Brazil, for the second consecutive year Space Ibiza will be
at the Ultra Music Festival Miami (March 25, 26 and 27, Miami) as part of a collaboration
agreement with this big festival of electronic music, one of the main and most honored
of the world.
During the second day of the festival Space will be represented by two of its most
representative resident DJs, Elio Riso and Camilo Franco, the winner of the Deejay mag
2010 for Best Ibiza resident DJ. They will be DJ’ing in the Room Society Dome, one of the
five different stages of this huge festival. They will share the booth with well-known artists
like Tim Green, Mowgli and Filthy Rich.
UMF was present at the three major events of Space Ibiza last season, which were the Opening party, its
anniversary and the Closing party. This summer we can enjoy the professionalism of its great team led by Russell
Faibisch (the winner of the International Dance Music Awards for Best International Dance Music Festival in the
last five editions), so used to sold out during the big events they organize all over the world.

Australia, Japón y Brasil, Space Ibiza, por segundo año consecutivo, estará presente
en Ultra Music Festival Miami, como parte del acuerdo de colaboración con este gran
festival de música electrónica, uno de los mayores y más galardonados del mundo, que
este año se celebrará los días 25, 26 y 27 de Marzo en la ciudad de Miami.
El segundo día de festival Space tendrá una representación destacada mediante dos
de sus DJs residentes más representativos, Elio Riso y Camilo Franco, ganador del
Deejay mag 2010 al mejor DJ residente de Ibiza, los cuales actuarán dentro de uno de
los cinco diferentes escenarios de este Macro festival llamado Room Society Dome
donde compartirán cabina con nombres tan conocidos como Tim Green, Mowgli o
Filthy Rich.
UMF estuvo presente en los tres grandes acontecimientos de Space Ibiza en la temporada pasada, Opening

Where are you from?: I’m from England
but these days I just feel like I’m from
earth.
Your relationship with the island: Since
the island is a huge consumer of sound
during the summer, it’s inevitable that the
relationship with the island will develop.
It’s always been try to bring the best
sound to the clubs.
As the creator, how would you describe
Funktion One?: It’s a designer and
manufacturer and inventor as well of ways
to reproduce big sound and doing it with a
purity and a clarity that displays the
proper respect for what people are
capable of perceiving.
Why do you think people choose Funktion
One instead of other sounds?: Well, we
like purity and clarity, you want it loud but
it mustn’t hurt. We try to get the power but
without damage. You have to be careful
and respectful.
The histor y of Function One has its roots
in another brand, Turbosound. What was
Turbosound?: It was not even my first
company, it was probably the forth one
but we got a great success in the 80s.
Which is the most important element to
achieve an excellent audio quality?: Well,
all the elements are important but I think
half of the story is in the space. The more
accurate and the more real the
reproduction, the further the
consciousness of the people can progress.
We know you worked with Pink Floyd.
How was the experience?: We were
involved with either sound system and
secondly with the surround sound. I didn’t
have any direct contact with the band but
they were concerned to be as sonically
interesting as possible.
Which famous clubs in Ibiza use your
sound systems?: Space and Privilege.
And what about radios?: Ibiza Global
Radio uses our sound system. We are very
happy about that.
It’s amazing to see you working. You have
a good crew in Ibiza: Yes, really good.

decided that with my business acumen and his
technical abilities, we could really launch Emulator
to the world.
What inspired you to develop a TouchscreenController-System?: Pablo Martín, the creator of
Emulator, has been working on touch screen
technology since 2004 and is considered by some to
be the world’s foremost expert on the subject.
Who do you think will/should use Emulator?:
Emulator is for all DJ’s who are looking to feel the
future now. Most professional DJ’s are on the cutting
edge of technology and Emulator is for those
looking to be pioneers in the new future of DJ’ing.
Future developments of Emulator: We are
introducing the Traktor 2 and Ableton versions of
Emulator at the Frankfurt Musik Messe April 6-10,
2011. We will also be introducing a revolutionary
new system for DJ’ing completely touch screen using
