Benefits of the WIC Program The Stone County Health Department offers a nutrition program designed for women, infants, and children. The benefits of the WIC program for eligible applicants are nutritious foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to appropriate health agencies. Those served by the WIC program are pregnant women, nonbreastfeeding postpartum women (up to 6 months after delivery or termination of the pregnancy), breastfeeding women (up to 1 year after delivery as long as they are breastfeeding the baby), infants from birth up to 1 year of age, and children up to their 5th birthday. Applicants to the WIC program must qualify two ways: income guidelines and nutritional risk. Income guidelines are based on 185% of poverty level.
