Artist Statement
Ivana Basic is research-based artist and designer, whose work explores body as a mode of existence and
appearance, through social, political and technological contexts. Basic was born in Serbia in 1986, and spent most
of her life in the conflict saturated territory of the Balkans. Being witness to t.... More Ivana Basic is research-based
artist and designer, whose work explores body as a mode of existence and appearance, through social, political
and technological contexts. Basic was born in Serbia in 1986, and spent most of her life in the conflict saturated
territory of the Balkans. Being witness to the conditions of one of the worst contemporary wars, became the
basis for her art practice and focused her work on the body and its limitations. In her practice she moves across
different mediums, stemming from the material demand of the concept in question. Final outcomes span the
tactile and the digital, including drawing and sculpture; still and moving image; and interactive installations that
make use of custom software and circuitry. In her process she uses facto-graphical and abstract, utilizing sensory
data as well theoretical frameworks as starting points for the research. In her works the artist uses her own
body to communicate given concepts. Ivana Basic, is a graduate of Faculty of Art and Design in Belgrade and is
pursuing her masters at Interactive Telecommunications Program at Tisch School of Arts, NYU. In 2010 she was
awarded Tisch Department Fellowship. Basic has exhibited her work in Serbia, Italy, Netherlands and USA.

Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, (born June 21, 1986), better known by her stage name Lana Del Rey,
is an American singer-songwriter. Raised in upstate New York, Del Rey moved to New York City
at age eighteen, where she attended college and began writing music and performing in clubs.
In 2008, Del Rey contracted with an independent label and recorded a self-titled debut album
which was briefly available on iTunes in 2010; Del Rey ultimately bought back the rights to the
album and it was withdrawn soon after.
In June 2011, she released the song “Video Games” on the Internet, accompanied by a self-made
music video that went viral in the following months. The song was later released as a single
in October, leading up to Del Rey’s major-label debut album, Born to Die, which was released
on January 31, 2012 through Interscope Records. Born to Die debuted at number one in seven
countries, including the United Kingdom and Australia. The album has spawned two worldwide
top 10 hits: “Video Games” and “Born to Die”.
Del Rey’s music has been noted for its cinematic sound and its references to various aspects of

Abre bien los ojos: Un paseo por Jajce

Jajce es uno de esos lugares donde la
omnipresencia de sus espléndidas cataratas,
oscurece la belleza de enclaves ocultos. Es
cierto que las aguas del Pliva dibujan un
paisaje en el que es imposible superar a la
naturaleza: los 22 metros de altura de caída
de las cataratas –las sextas por dimensiones
del mundo- golpean con su relajante
estruendo al visitante, haciendo estallar
el verde frescor esmeralda del cauce que
transcurre pacíficamente por la pequeña
localidad bosnia. Los ojos se detienen en
los viejos molinos, reductos etnográficos
con sus techumbres de pizarra, erguidos
sobre la corriente como un ejército de casas
rebeldes en un paraje lleno de paz, pese a
que los Balcanes sigan equivocadamente
resonando a guerra.

Puestos a ser uno con la naturaleza el río Urbas, ya
en dirección a Banja Luka, ofrece atracciones de
rafting en las que atravesar los cañones rodeado de
la insultante belleza de las montañas. Pero eso sería
dejarse arrastrar como un turista más por el caudal
de lo evidente, porque Jajce esconde un pasado en
piedra que exige al viajero husmear por sus calles.
Basta tan sólo levantar la vista para cruzarse con la
ciudadela otomana que rasga el cielo con sus perfiles,
aunque para acceder a ella es necesario ascender
por caminos poblados de gentes sosegadas a las
que aún les sorprende la presencia del curioso. En el
trayecto nos topamos con la Mezquita Dizdar, o de las
mujeres, en la rocalla de entrada a la fortaleza. Desde
la cima el paisaje obliga al silencio que reclaman los
cercanos cementerios con sus tumbas “tocadas” al
estilo otomano, pero sobre todo por esa calma que
transmite la vida detenida del valle. Pero, ¡alto ahí!,
porque si ha llegado a lo alto de la loma es porque
ha pasado de largo ante la cripta de Hrvoje Vukčić
Hrvatinić, una lóbrego y angosto recinto excavado
en la roca entre los siglos XIV y XV como residencia
póstuma de la familia ducal y donde aún se puede
contemplar la rudimentaria iglesia subterránea de las
catacumbas. Se da la circunstancia de que no sería
usted el único en haber pasado de largo por delante
de este monumento nacional
Bosnia y Herzegovina desde 2003, situado a seis metros bajo tierra, pues en tiempos fue escogido por el propio

Searching for a chance
HI I am a London(UK) based actor.
I am writing to you as I wanted to share the trailer to a film I played in, but also wrote,
directed and produced, as a result of growing impatient of ‘waiting’ for agents/casting
directors/production companies to give me work.
I thought you might find it relevant to your magazine.
Fifty Pence The Film premiered at the London Short Film Festival in January 2012, where it received a
great response, and I am currently trying to get to more festivals and hopefully get ‘noticed’.
