r e n r o C r a g Cou March 2013 Principal’s Pen Dear Carver Families, There are several ways in which to measure student growth and success in school. One of the most important ways we measure student progress is through the Transitional Colorado Assessment Program (TCAP). The window of testing for 3rd – 5th grades in reading, writing, math and science will begin March 5th and run through March 15th. Please make note of the schedule below. 2013 TCAP Testing Schedule: 3rd Test grade – Writing only 4th – 5th grade Reading/Writing Administration Dates March 6th & 7th March 5th - 14th 3rd grade–Math 4th grade– Math 5th grade– Math 5th grade– Science March 12th & 13th March 5th– 7th March 12th– 14th March 6th & 7th Note: There will be no interruptions during the time of testing. Students who arrive late will not be allowed to enter the classroom and will have to take the TCAP during the scheduled make-up sessions. Students will not be released from school during TCAP testing times. Phone calls and/or visitors will not be allowed in the classrooms during testing. Make-up testing will occur as needed throughout the testing window. Help Your Child Perform Well on TCAP Talk about the importance of doing well on these tests. Encourage your child to be serious about demonstrating their knowledge. Make sure your child arrives to school on time and schedule appointments before or after the testing windows. Plan ahead to ensure your child is present for each assessment. In the event of an emergency, please notify the office as soon as possible. Physical Preparation Make sure your child has adequate sleep the night before the test. Children who are sleepy or tired are less able to pay attention in class or less able to handle the demands of the assessment. Give your child a healthy breakfast each morning. Good nutrition fuels the brain year-round. Foods high in fat or sugar do not provide your child with the nutrients to feed the brain. Encourage your child to do her or his best but avoid putting on pressure. Too much pressure can cause test anxiety and lead to worse, not better, scores. Standardized tests are just one way of measuring student achievement. Thank you for your continued support at home. We know our students are well prepared and ready to shine!!! Atentamente, Mrs. Kimberly Gilbert Directora
