Lenten Reminders
ABSTINENCE: Everyone fourteen years of age and older
is bound to abstain from meat on ASH WEDNESDAY, the
FRIDAYS of Lent and GOOD FRIDAY.
FAST: Everyone eighteen years of age and older but
under the age of sixty is also bound to fast on ASH
WEDNESDAY and GOOD FRIDAY.
On these two days, the law of fast allows only one full
meal a day, but does not prohibit taking some food
during the day, so long as this does not constitute another
full meal. Drinking liquids during the day is permitted.
When health or ability to work would be seriously
affected, the law does not oblige. In doubt concerning
fast or abstinence, a priest assigned to pastoral ministry
or confessor should be consulted. In the spirit of
penance, the faithful should not lightly excuse themselves
from this obligation.

Unción Profética
Prophetic Anointing
no comprenden.
The solemnity of today’s readings invites us into silent
contemplation of the mystery of our redemption. There
are so many levels on which to understand the events of
the Passion. The woman who anoints Jesus acts
prophetically in a way that the other disciples do not yet
grasp. Anointing is for priests, prophets, and kings, and
also for the preparation of the dead. It is for healing and
for holiness. Her action acknowledges the imminent
events of the passion and death of the Lord, and points
toward his resurrection and triumph over evil and death.
He is priest and victim, prophet and God, King and Lord.
All these things are acknowledged in her prophetic
anointing.

Good Friday Collection, April 3
Christians around the world are
united in a special way during Lent,
Holy Week and Easter. Our hearts,
minds and prayers are also
especially aware of the Holy Land.
Our parish, once a year on Good
Friday, is called on to support
Christians in the Holy Land. Many
Christians in the Holy Land depend
on the collection for their lives.
As a pontifical collection requested
by Pope Francis, the annual Good
Friday Collection offers a direct link
for parishioners to be witnesses of
peace and to help protect the Holy Places. When you
donate on Good Friday, you are supporting Christians in
the Holy Land.
Franciscans and others in the Holy Land are housing and
feeding the poor, providing religious formation and
education, maintaining shrines and parishes, and
conducting pastoral ministry. For more information, visit
www.myfranciscan.org/good-friday.

As the solemnity of Easter approaches, the Cathedral welcomes contributions to help adorn its great space with floral
tributes. Your gift, which can honor someone special, will share the joy and beauty of this special time of the church
year with everyone who visits the Cathedral during this season of renewal and hope.
Notice how the flowers grow.
They do not toil or spin.

was dressed like one of them.
