Primer domingo del Adviento de 2015 – año del Evangelio según Lucas, el “evangelista de la
misericordia”
El Evangelio de Lucas se compuso alrededor del año 85 d.C. y es el más largo de los cuatro Evangelios. Lucas
hace hincapié en el trabajo por los pobres y necesitados y su Evangelio trata de comunicar con los marginados
de su época—muy apropiado para nuestros días, puesto que nos preparamos para empezar el Año
Extraordinario de la Misericordia el día 8 de diciembre, con la incubencia de practicar intentamente obras
espirituales y corporales de misericordia.
Cuando Ud. tenga un momento de quietud, piense sobre sus expectativas para el Adviento y las
Navidades este año, para que estas celebraciones no sean un período de decepción, frustraciones,
aislamiento, tristeza por aquellos que se fueron, tensión en familia o presión de tener demasiado que hacer,
sino que las Navidades sean un período de paz y júbilo. Trate de pasar algún tiempo con aquellos que le
quieren, haga trabajo de voluntariado, aprecie lo bueno y lo positivo de su vida en vez de fijarse en el pasado.
¡Dedíquese a estar con las personas importantes en su vida! A veces es necesario decir NO a algunas cosas
para que podamos decir SÍ a otras. ¡Que sus Navidades sean harmoniosas y espiritualmente
gratificantes!
El Comité por Justicia y Paz de la Parroquia de San Patricio le invita a participar de nuestro grupo.
El Comité sirve a la parroquia y a la comunidad de Lexington de varias maneras y se reúne una vez al mes.

From your Haiti Committee: As we celebrate and give thanks for all that we have ourselves received over
the holidays, please remember our twin parish in Haiti. We continue to ask for School supplies (pens, paper,
solar-powered calculators, folders, pencils, backpacks, chalk, erasers, rulers, and other school items.) Also
soccer balls, jump ropes and basketballs are extremely appreciated along with small air pumps for shipment
in the spring to the school at Saint Peter for all our community of Fond Pierre. We encourage you to leave
your donations in the “Haiti” Collection basket in the Narthex of the Church. THANK YOU for your generosity!

2015 Annual Diocesan Appeal - Our Faith Alive in Love: To date, we have raised $17,183 on a target
of $13,200. If you have already made your 2015 Appeal gift, please accept our gratitude for your commitment.
The seventeen ministries supported by the Appeal work together to ensure that we are assisting our parishes,
supporting our clergy and growing our faith communities.
Rockbridge Reads Book Drive: A program under the United Way of Rockbridge, Rockbridge Reads is
interested in promoting early childhood literacy in the area. In collaboration with VMI, they are currently
holding a book drive to benefit children in the Rockbridge area. Gently used or new books for children in
Grades Pre-K to 9th grade would be appreciated. Please place books in the “Book Drive” box in the narthex.
The Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites are lay people inspired by the Holy Spirit to answer the call to
holiness through prayer, study, and apostolic works of charity. Their formation is founded on the writing and
teachings of the Carmelite Saints: St. Teresa of Jesus, St. John of the Cross, and St. Therese of Lisieux, under
the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary, our Lady of Mount Carmel. If you desire to learn more about this
way of life, the Secular Community of Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity meets at St. Francis of Assisi in Staunton
on the second Sunday of each month from 12:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. For further information, please pick up a
