In Reader’s Workshop we…
 know the difference between fiction and nonfiction.
 explore our own interests by “reading” nonfiction
books on topics that excite us.
 continue to use our reading superpowers every day.
 must know our sight words both in isolation and within
text.
 can use Raz Kids at home for extra reading practice!
In Writer’s Workshop we…

know that personal narratives tell about a real event in
the life of a real person.

plan out our stories (beginning, middle and end) to make
them longer and stronger.

are learning to add descriptive details to our pictures
and words.

have begun to learn about non-fiction narratives.

will soon be writing about a “day in the life of” a person
we know well.
Math
Spanish
Students have been…

learning about 2D and 3D shapes, their characteristics,
attributes and relationships between them, as well as
ways to describe and name them and to compose and
decompose them.

continuing to practice counting, number identification
and number writing in class. We are now expected to
correct backward numbers!

combining and separating numbers (addition and
subtraction) and are solving horizontal and vertical
number sentences.
Kindergarteners love to learn how to say what they like or
dislike in Spanish:

Me gusta=I like

No me gusta=I don’t like
Ask your child to tell you which color, animal or type of weather
they like or dislike.

Me gusta rojo, no me gusta verde.

Me gusta perro, no me gusta caballo.

Me gusta hace sol, no me gusta hace frío
In the coming weeks children will be learning to name some
important people in their lives:

Amigo / amiga = friend maestro / maestra = teacher

Mama = mom, papá = dad familia = family, clase =
class.
