Christ is the King of the universe
and of each of us.
Today we celebrate the last Sunday of the liturgical
year. Luke's Gospel leaves us with a "holy image" to
remember and treasure. It is an image of the crucifixion. Above the head of Jesus a sign proclaims: "This is
the King of the Jews." The soldiers and the crowd believed that the sign was in jest, but a criminal crucified
beside Jesus realized the truth. "Remember me in your
Kingdom," he pleaded. And the King answered him:
"Today you will be with me in paradise."
There is no greater love than to give one’s life for a
friend. We can say: "greater love than this no King has
ever extended to his people." This is the King of Kings,
now resurrected and we rise with Him daily, whenever
we respond to grace in our lives, whenever we imitate
our King overcoming evil with good. What can you do
this week to be like Christ the King; what acts of love,
forgiveness, generosity and deeds for justice and
peace?
For Jesus to reign in our lives, we need to know
Christ. Reading and reflection on the Gospel, personal
prayer and the sacraments are all ways to know Him
and to open our hearts to his love. It is a matter of
knowing Christ not only theologically but experientially as well. Let us come closer to God Himself in the
Eucharist in order to receive His abundant love. Let us
pray and listen attentively to Christ who speaks.
When we know Christ, we will love him spontaneously because He is total goodness. And when we are
in love, it is evident in our actions. We begin to imitate
Jesus Christ. Love will lead us almost without realizing
it to think like Christ, to love like Christ and to become
like Christ, to live a life of true charity and Christian
authenticity. When we imitate Christ, knowing him and
loving him, then we can experience that the Kingdom
of Christ has begun for us.
Apostolic commitment is a natural outcome of our
love for Christ. It consists in performing concrete
works in order to extend the Kingdom of Christ to all.
Our love will begin to overflow and will not be able to
be detained.

St. Vincent de Paul has been an important and active
organization within St. Philip Parish for many years.
The members meet monthly at our parish and respond to
the needy of our area. Many members
of our parish continue to dedicate their
time and service in this organization.
We thank them for their generous
service. If you would like to become
part of this parish service organization, please contact the Parish
Office, 468-7848. The next meeting
of the St. Vincent de Paul-St. Philip group is
Monday, December 2 at 8:00 am in the Adult Center.
THE GIVNG TREE:
We have the Giving Tree up early this year...so that when holiday sales are taking place, you can purchase
these gift items at better prices. The gifts are
for people in shelters, Haiti, Love Life
program, and EPH. The Giving Tree helps
people in these groups receive items they may
truly need. It’s easy! Just take a tag or two off
the tree and purchase the item listed. Then return the gift,
unwrapped with the tag to church and place it under the
Giving Tree. By your generous giving of a gift, some who are
in hard times can come know the Gift of God’s help and love
through your help. Thank you for your care and assistance to
make this project possible!

Nov. 24-Gospel Reflection---Feast of “Christ the King”
(This is the last Sunday of this Liturgical Year, C. Next
Sunday, the first Sunday of Advent, we start with Year A – a
new liturgical year in the Church.)
In today’s Gospel, the people didn’t understand Jesus’ way
of being King. Jesus is a much different kind of king than
what people are used to. We are used to the kind of king we
read about in storybooks, rich/wealthy, one who has servants,
etc. Jesus is a gentle king, one who welcomed sinners, outcasts and healed the sick. Jesus “hung out” with these kinds
of people. Instead of having servants – Jesus is a servant.
Jesus also talks about a different kind of kingdom – one of
acceptance, love, caring, one where the “last will be first.”
One where there will be no suffering or pain, where people
will all get along – no divisions. Can you imagine a place like
that? Each of us being anointed by our baptism, are called to
share in Christ’s Kingship here on earth; we are called to give
people a “taste” of what God’s Kingdom could be like.
~How can each of us help to bring about God’s Kingdom to
our families/schools/our place of work and neighborhoods?
~Were you ever rejected like Jesus was? How did that
make you feel? What could you do if you were rejected?
~If you were “King/Queen” or had some type of leader
position, how would you lead? What would be some qualities

RECORDATORIO
Les recordamos que durante el tiempo de
Adviento y Cuaresma NO hay bautizos. Hay
posibilidades de celebrar un bautismo solo
una semana de enero y una de febrero. Si usted está planeando bautizar a su hijo (a) llame lo antes posible.
También si usted tiene interés en recibir el
sacramento del Matrimonio en el 2014, le
recordamos que es importante que aparte su
fecha lo antes posible para evitar inconformidades.

Mensaje del Padre José Antonio Castañeda
Cristo es el Rey del universo
y de cada uno de nosotros.
Celebramos hoy el último domingo del año litúrgico. El Evangelio de Lucas nos deja con una "santa
imagen" para atesorar. Es una imagen de la crucifixión.
Sobre la cabeza de Jesús hay una proclamación: "Este
es el rey de los judíos." Los soldados y la multitud pensaban que el letrero era un broma. Pero un criminal
crucificado al lado de Jesús se dio cuenta de la verdad.
"Recuérdame cuando estés en Tu reino," pidió. Y el
Rey le respondió: "Hoy mismo estarás conmigo en el
paraíso."
“No hay mayor amor que el dar la vida por sus amigos." Podemos decir: "amor mayor que este no lo ha
dado ningún rey a su pueblo." Este es el rey de reyes,
ahora resucitado y nosotros resucitamos diariamente
con Él cada vez que respondemos a la gracia e imitamos a nuestro Rey venciendo el mal con el bien. ¿Qué
puedes hacer esta semana para ser como Cristo, un Rey
de amor, perdón, generosidad, justicia y paz?
Para lograr que Jesús reine en nuestra vida, debemos conocer a Cristo. La lectura y reflexión del Evangelio, la oración personal y los sacramentos son medios
para conocerlo. Se trata de conocer a Cristo de una manera concreta y no sólo teológicamente Acerquémonos
a la Eucaristía, Dios mismo, para recibir de su abundancia. Oremos con profundidad escuchando a Cristo
que nos habla.
Al conocer a Cristo empezaremos a amarlo de manera espontánea, porque Él es toda bondad. Y cuando
uno está enamorado se le nota. También debemos imitar a Jesucristo. El amor nos llevará casi sin darnos
cuenta a pensar como Cristo, querer como Cristo y a
sentir como Cristo, viviendo una vida de verdadera caridad y autenticidad cristiana. Cuando imitamos a Cristo conociéndolo y amándolo, entonces podemos experimentar que el Reino de Cristo ha comenzado.
Por último, vendrá el compromiso apostólico que
consiste en llevar nuestro amor a la acción de extender
el Reino de Cristo a todos mediante obras concretas del
apostolado. No nos podremos detener. Nuestro amor
comenzará a desbordarse.
Señor Jesucristo, Rey del Universo, te pido la gracia
de que establezcas tu Reino de paz, verdad, amor, esperanza y justicia en mi corazón, para que después me
lance a llevar bien alta tu bandera, esa bandera cuyos
colores me trazaste en las bienaventuranzas (Mateo 5,
1-8).

Solo para reflexionar...
La lectura del Evangelio de este domingo nos podría dejar un poco confusos. ¿Un rey en la cruz?
Jesús, a punto de morir en la cruz, despierta opiniones y sentimientos opuestos. Unos se ríen de Él y
otros afirman su inocencia. En ese momento de la
cruz el mismo Jesús es capaz de prometer el paraíso
al hombre que está crucificado a su lado. Su reino es
el reinado de Dios que reúne a todos sus hijos dispersos en una sola familia.
Desde esa perspectiva entendemos mejor la lectura de la carta a los colosense. Cuando ahí se afirma la
superioridad de Jesús sobre todas las personas, cuando se nos dice que el reino de Dios va a llegar a su
plenitud en Él, no significa que ese reino vaya a ser
prospero económicamente. En un reino donde todos
somos hermanos y Dios es padre, la plenitud se verá
porque se realice de verdad la fraternidad, la solidaridad y la justicia. Como en la buena familia, todos
pondremos la confianza en el padre en quien encontramos el amor que nos lleva a la vida. Toda la humanidad está llamada a participar en esa plenitud.
Jesús es el rey de este reino. Por eso murió en la
cruz.

ORACION PARA LA COMUNION ESPIRITUAL
Creo, Jesús mío, que estás real y verdaderamente en el cielo y en el Santísimo Sacramento
del Altar. Te amo sobre todas las cosas y deseo vivamente recibirte dentro de mi alma, pero no pudiendo hacerlo ahora sacramentalmente, ven al menos espiritualmente a mi corazón.
Y como si ya Te hubiera recibido, Te abrazo y me uno del todo a Ti, Señor. No permitas
que jamás me aparte de Ti, Amen.
