GOD CHOSE ISRAEL AS HIS OWN PEOPLE and it is truly their pride. But the Lord clearly expressed in the scripture that he chose them to make them his instruments to make known to the world ‘His Power and Love’. In
the words of Prophet Isaiah, they were chosen to be God's instrument of salvation to the ends of the earth.
The New Testament is very clear that the new people of God – ‘the Church of Christ’ – is entrusted with the
same obligation and responsibility, ie to make the world aware of the goodness of God.
This 4th Sunday of the Easter season is often called “Good Shepherd Sunday,” from the comforting imagery of
Jesus as the shepherd who will lead his sheep to eternal life. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, protects and provides
for his flock, even to the point of laying down his life, so we may live more abundantly. By his death and resurrection, Jesus Christ “opened” heaven to us. Henceforth, the Church for all generations, remains faithful to
the grace of God given to the Apostles, and continues their saving work.
Through the Church, the peoples of every land and nation hear the voice of the Shepherd as He invites
them
nd
to follow Him. Today’s Gospel calls to the Good Shepherd as the enthroned Lamb, referred to in the 2 reading. In laying down His life for His flock – by shedding His blood – He frees "every nation, race, people and
tongue" from bondage to sin and death.
As we acknowledge the greatness of our God, let us remember that we are called to rejoice and sing the song
that once only Israel could sing, "He made us, His we are - His people, the flock He tends"!

ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH
Eugene, OREGON
Dear Parishioners,
St. Peter Catholic Church, as a community of
faith, has been a beacon of hope for the last 6
decades in Eugene. In gratitude to God, we recently
celebrated our 6o year anniversary. I sincerely
thank the parishioners for your valuable support.
Remember that the parish facilities are as old as
the parish faith community. On and off we have
rectified certain smaller problems, but we are now
faced with a bigger problem. We have leaking issues
with the rectory roof, which needs our immediate
attention. Being a smaller parish community with
fewer families and limited income, it would be very
difficult to rectify the roof with only your regular
contributions. Hence, once again I come to you,
dear parishioners, requesting your valuable financial
support for the roof repairs. I request you to take
a prayerful moment for reflection, and then make a
generous contribution in support of the roof repairs.
TOTAL COST FOR THE RECTORY
ROOF REPAIR: $ 15,000
