My dear parishioners,
Mis queridos feligreses,
As we begin the First Week of Lent, I have
some great news to help us on our Lenten journey.
Our parish will be hosting two Lenten missions, one in
Spanish and one in English. Each mission will be a
three night event, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday,
starting at 7 pm and ending at 8:30 pm. A married
couple is giving each mission and both of the wives
are marvelous musicians.
The mission in Spanish will be on Monday,
February 29th, Tuesday, March 1st and ending on
Wednesday, March 2nd. Paulina Rojas and Francisco
Bermeo have been married since 2004 and are very
involved the Charismatic Renewal. They have given
retreats and talks in many countries throughout Latin
America and in the United States. Paulina has several
albums of her own music where she sings the Lord’s
praise.
The mission in English will be on Monday,
March 7th, Tuesday, March 8th and ending on Wednesday, March 9th. Dom Quaglia and Sarah Kroger
Quaglia have been married since October 2015. You
may recall that I went to their wedding in Florida back
in October. Sarah currently has two albums and she is
my favorite Catholic praise and worship artist. She
had performed four times in my last parish. Her husband Dom has played in her band and gave an Advent
mission night in my last assignment. Both of them
have been involved in the Lifeteen movement and
have ministered at several Steubenville Conferences.
Sarah and Dom will also doing a youth event on
Sunday, March 6th in our church starting at 7 pm.
More information will be coming in the weeks ahead.
It is a great blessing for our parish to have
these wonderful couples coming to us to speak of their
love for Jesus Christ. They are shining examples of
how Christ has blessed their love for one another and
has brought them together. Please put these dates on
your calendar and make an effort to attend. If you
cannot make all three nights, try to attend one or two.
They will introduce themselves at the Masses the
weekend before their missions. Please pray for their
safe arrival and for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit
on our parish.

Mientras comenzamos la Primera Semana de
Cuaresma, les tengo buenas noticias para ayudarnos en
nuestra jornada Cuaresmal. Nuestra parroquia estará
presentando dos misiones Cuaresmales, una en
español y otra en inglés. Cada misión será un evento
de tres noches, lunes, martes y miércoles, comenzando
a las 7pm y terminará a las 8:30pm. Una pareja casada dará una misión y ambas esposas son artistas maravillosas.
La misión en español será el lunes, 29 de
febrero, martes, 1 de marzo y terminará el miércoles, 2
de marzo. Paulina Rojas y Francisco Bermeo han
estado casados desde el 2004, y están muy involucrados en la renovación Carismática. Han dado retiros y
charlas en muchos países por Latinoamérica y en los
Estados Unidos. Paulina tiene varios álbumes de su
propia música donde canta alabanzas al Señor.
La misión en inglés será el lunes, 7 de marzo,
martes, 8 de marzo, y terminará el 9 de marzo. Dom
Quaglia y Sarah Kroger Quaglia están casados desde
octubre del 2015. Se acordarán que fuí a su boda en la
Florida en el mes de octubre. Sarah actualmente tiene
dos álbumes y ella es mi artista católica de alabanza y
adoración favorita. Ella cantó cuatro veces en mi
parroquia anterior. Su esposo Dom ha tocado en su
grupo y dio una noche de misión de Adviento en mi
última asignación. Ellos dos han estado involucrados
en el movimiento Lifeteen y han servido en varias
conferencias de Steubenville. Sarah y Dom también
harán un evento de jóvenes el domingo, 6 de marzo en
nuestra iglesia comenzando a las 7pm. Tendremos más

Today Lent begins. Ash Wednesday initiates the forty days of the
Lenten fast, but since Sundays are not tallied in the days of fasting,
today is the solemn opening of the forty days of Lent. The Church has
work to do today, principally the calling forward of those chosen (the
proper word is elected) for the Easter sacraments. Some of those who
have been catechumens may now make a transition to a new way of
life as the “elect.” For them, this Lent will be a time of “purification”
and “enlightenment.” For us who accompany them, it is a time of helping them discern God’s call and prepare for new life.
This year, while the readings from the third year of the Lectionary
cycle are usually read, they are set aside on certain Sundays for the
benefit of the elect. We turn then to the readings from Year A, and we
give those who journey to the font of baptism three extraordinary companions. In the Gospels for those days, we meet the woman of Samaria
and the man born blind, and we come to the tomb of Lazarus three
days after his death. Many bishops celebrate the Rite of Election on or
near today, affirming God’s choice for these new faithful, and also
offering them the solidarity of many companions. In 2013, over 38,000
adults entered the baptismal waters in the United States, a remarkable
testimony to the vigor of our tradition of receiving and nurturing adult
faith.
