WELCOME BISHOP BARRON! – Today we have the privilege of being visited by His Excellency, Bishop Robert Barron, one of the new Auxiliary Bishops of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Bishop Barron is originally from Chicago and
was named by our Holy Father, Pope Francis, to serve as a bishop in Los Angeles assisting Archbishop Jose Gomez. Since
he is new to our Archdiocese he is eager to visit the different parishes and get to know the people. Today he will be celebrating the 8:30 a.m. Mass and the 10:00 a.m. Mass. Please greet him after Mass and make him feel welcome!
ANOTHER GREAT CARNIVAL! - Our Carnival last weekend was a tremendous success! Our sixth year of a 3-day carnival went very well. The excellent weather helped a great deal to bring out the crowds and the mechanical rides this year
hit an all time high of use. It was wonderful to be able to see so many of our parishioners and their friends enjoying the music, food, rides and friendship. The carnival raffle was also very good and the winners are announced elsewhere in this bulletin. Currently all the bills from carnival expenses are being paid but we should soon know how much of a profit was
made. This will enable us to continue the ongoing improvements to the parish plant.
On behalf of the parish priests, Deacon, School Staff, and the entire parish, I want to express my sincere gratitude to ALL
who gave of their time, talent and treasure to make it happen. Thank you to all the members of the various parish organizations, Parish School and Religious Education parents and students, volunteers of all kinds who did everything from setting
up to taking down, cooking and serving food to sweeping up and removing trash, counting money to staffing booths. It was
a tremendous effort and you all did it with joy and love! For many of you them this was their first time working at the Carnival and they were great!
Thanks also to all the donors who were very generous. I especially want to express my appreciation to the members of the
Carnival Committee who worked numerous hours in planning and ensuring that everything ran well. And, in particular our
sincere gratitude goes out to a few individuals who went “far and above” the minimum required. These include Mrs. Diana
Maria who ran her third Carnival this year and did a great job! She was assisted by all the other members of the Carnival
Committee Committee: Evelyn Jimenez, Kathy Roberts, Veronica Leon, Brenda Hernandez, Teresa Quintanar, Pamela
Maldonado, Sergio Hernandez, Alma Valdez, Amy Kim, Luis Pajuelo, Livier Cueto, Blanca Cabrera. Also assisting:
Yanet Velasquez, Isabel Serrano, Jae Kim, Samuel Razo.
There were also numerous other wonderful volunteers who are too numerous to mention but without whom this event would
not have been possible. I am simply amazed at their level of energy and generosity. May God bless and reward all of you!
WORLD MISSION SUNDAY – Today we celebrate World Mission Sunday. On this day we pray especially for all missionaries who spread the truth of Christ’s gospel to the farthest corners of the earth. We will also support our missionaries
through our second collection. Thank you for your generosity!
ALL SOULS DAY – In just a couple of weeks we will have the annual Commemoration of All Souls, which takes place on
Monday, November 2nd, and is a powerful celebration of the doctrine of Purgatory. We affirm our belief in the reality of sin
as an offense against the awesome majesty of Almighty God, and in His just punishments. We affirm as well our belief that
prayer is a powerful instrument before God's throne, that by it we are able to intercede for our deceased brothers and sisters.
As is our custom, we will pray especially for all those who died in our parish this past year. If you had a family member
who passed away this year and the funeral was held here, then that person will be automatically on the list. If the funeral
was held elsewhere and you’d like to have their names read during the Requiem Mass, please contact the rectory. Our special annual Requiem Mass with the beautiful music of Fauré will take place at 7:00 p.m. and all those who had a death in
their family this last year will receive a special invitation.

BIENVENIDO OBISPO BARRON! - Hoy tenemos el privilegio de tener de visita a Su Excelencia, el Obispo Robert
Barron, uno de los nuevos obispos auxiliares de la Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles. El Obispo Barron es originario de
Chicago y fue nombrado por Nuestro Santo Padre, El Papa Francisco, a servir como uno de los obispos auxiliares en Los
Ángeles ayudando al Arzobispo José Gómez. Puesto que él es nuevo en nuestra Arquidiócesis está ansioso de visitar las
diferentes parroquias y conocer a la gente. Hoy el celebrará la Misa de las 8:30AM y las 10:00AM. Por favor de saludarlo después de la Misa y hacer que se sienta bienvenido!
¡OTRO GRAN CARNAVAL! - El Carnaval el pasado fin de semana fue todo un éxito! Este fue el sexto año que tuvimos la feria de 3 días y nos fue muy bien. El excelente clima ayudo muchísimo en traer grandes multitudes de gente y
los juegos mecánicos este año toparon su uso al máximo. Fue maravilloso poder ver a muchos de nuestros feligreses y
sus amigos disfrutando de la música, la comida, los paseos y la amistad. La rifa del carnaval también fue muy buena y
los ganadores se anuncian en este boletín. En estos momentos estamos pagando todas las facturas pero pronto sabremos
la cantidad exacta de las ganancias. Gracias a estas ganancias nos permitirá continuar los arreglos de la parroquia.
En nombre de todos los sacerdotes de la parroquia, el Diácono, personal de la escuela, y toda la parroquia, quiero expresar mi más sincero agradecimiento a todos los que dieron de su tiempo, talento y tesoro para que este carnaval fuera
un excito. ¡Gracias a todos los miembros de las diversas organizaciones de la parroquia, la escuela parroquial y los padres de educación religiosa y estudiantes, voluntarios de todo tipo que hicieron todo desde el levantamiento hasta el desmontaje, cocinar y servir los alimentos, barrer y quitar la basura y contar dinero. Fue un tremendo esfuerzo y todo lo
hicieron con alegría y amor! Para muchos esta fue la primera vez trabajando en el Carnaval lo hicieron muy bien!.
Gracias también a todos los donadores que fueron muy generosos. En especial, quiero expresar mi agradecimiento
a los miembros del Comité del Carnaval que trabajaron muchas horas en la planificación para garantizar que todo funcionara bien. Y, en particular, nuestro más sincero agradecimiento va para unos individuos que dieron " muy por encima " del mínimo requerido. Estos incluyen la Sra. Diana María, que dirigió su tercer Carnaval y hizo un excelente trabajo. Ella fue asistida por miembros del Comité del Carnaval : Evelyn Jimenez, Kathy Roberts, Veronica Leon, Brenda
Hernandez, Teresa Quintanar, Pamela Maldonado, Sergio Hernandez, Alma Valdez, Amy Kim, Luis Pajuelo, Livier

Hubo también muchos otros maravillosos voluntarios pero sería numerosa la lista para mencionarlos a todos, pero sin
los cuales este evento no hubiera sido posible. Simplemente estoy sorprendido por su nivel de energía y generosidad.

DOMINGO MUNDIAL DE LAS MISSIONES- Hoy, celebramos el Domingo Mundial de las Misiones. En este día
rezamos especialmente para todos los misioneros que difunden la verdad del Evangelio de Cristo hasta los últimos rincones de la tierra. También vamos a apoyar a nuestros misioneros a través de nuestra segunda colecta. Gracias por su
generosidad!
DIA DE TODOS LOS DIFUNTOS - En un par de semanas tendremos la Conmemoración anual de los Fieles Difuntos, que se celebra el lunes 2 de noviembre, y es una poderosa celebración de la doctrina del Purgatorio.
Afirmamos nuestra creencia en la realidad del pecado como una ofensa contra la impresionante majestad de Dios
Todopoderoso, y en sus justos castigos. Afirmamos también nuestra convicción de que la oración es un poderoso
instrumento ante el trono de Dios, para que por ella somos capaces de interceder por nuestros hermanos difuntos.
Como es nuestra costumbre, oremos especialmente por los que an muerto en nuestra parroquia este año pasado. Si
usted a tenido un miembro de familia que falleció este año y su Misa de funeral fue aquí en San Juan Crisóstomo
automáticamente su nombre estará en la lista. Si el funeral fue en algún otro lugar y usted quisiera que el nombre
sea mencionado durante la Misa Requiem, por favor de contactar la rectoría. Nuestra Misa especial anual de Requiem
con la música Fauré tomará lugar en la Misa de las 7:00p.m y todos los que tuvieron un familiar que falleció este año
recibirán una invitación especial.

October is the month of the Holy Rosary.
The Feast Day of Our Lady of the Rosary
was celebrated on October 7th. This is a
wonderful reminder to pray the rosary
each day not only during October, but
throughout the year. Here at St. John the
rosary is prayed in common after the
8:00AM Mass in English and after the
6:15PM in Spanish on Mondays.
El mes de Octubre es el mes del Santo
Rosario. La celebración de Nuestra Señora de Rosario fue
celebrada en Octubre 7. Este es un muy buen recordatorio de
que el rosario se debe rezar a diario y no solamente en el
mes de Octubre, sino durante todo el año. Aquí en San Juan
