Main results achieved Participation and engagement of Stakeholders: Fishing sector (10 fishermen organization), National fishing administration, Regional fishing administration and Organization for marketing the fishing products. Dissemination of the generalities of this Case Study and some activities and results. Identification of the current management plans in the Canary Islands and the main problems concerning its establishment. General description of the artisanal fishing activity in the Canary Islands. Tenerife. Exchange information with fishermen: visits, meetings, enquires… Mining on the existing information available (fleet, target species, legislation...). Updating information on the current state of fishing artisanal fleet in Tenerife. Involvement of the stakeholders in the process (I) Who Are They? Exchange information with fishermen: - Characteristics of artisanal fleet: (GRT, HP, year, length, crew number, autonomy, deck, auxiliary equipment, fishing zone, depths …); gears used (pole, handline, longline, trap, purse seine….); species caught and seasonal fishing activity. 191 interviews 2. Problems encountered Main problems to implement a MP: - Lack of information on the distribution of fishing effort and official statistics catches from the recreational fishery. - Monitoring and surveillance of this fishery is difficult due to the vast number of landing points. - Lack of scientific information concerning the biology and stock unities of the species, in general. - Abundance estimates very scare. - Lack of stock assessment information Complex Case Study: artisanal fishery multi-gears and multi-species Delayed starting of the Case Study (January 2013) Next steps (I) Data analysis of the information collected Descriptive analysis of the current artisanal fishery situation Comparative analysis of the artisanal fishery evolution Statistical analysis and modelling.
