Prólogo
Numerous textbooks of colorectal surgery have been written over the last several years. The common denominator of these books is the incorporation of the “state of the art”. The Chief Editor, Dr. Hector Enriquez
Blanco, is kind in mentioning me amongst the editors of some of these other textbooks. However, I must note to the reader that my alumnus, Dr. Enriquez Blanco, has successfully completed a book which is certainly
on level with the volumes cited in his preface. His textbook includes 111 highly detailed, comprehensive,
authoritatively written and extensively referenced chapters. This book is a complete compendium of current
concepts in colorectal surgery. I have no doubt whatsoever that readers of this work will tremendously
benefit from the numerous expert contributions from a wide gamut of Latin American contributors. One
additional aspect of this book which distinguishes it from others is the number of chapters actually authored
or coauthored by the Chief Editor, Dr. Enriquez Blanco. He is to be commended for having had the time and
insight to compile this book and then to have added the additional effort and energy to author and co-author
so many beautiful chapters. I wish to congratulate Dr. Enriquez Blanco on this wonderful accomplishment
and congratulate the reader upon the acquisition of what is clearly an academic masterpiece.
Numerosos libros de texto de cirugía colorrectal han sido escritos en los últimos años. El común denominador de estas obras siempre ha sido la introducción de las “últimas novedades”. El editor en jefe, Dr. Héctor
Enríquez, ha sido muy amable al mencionarme junto con otros autores de estos libros de texto. Sin embargo,
debo hacer notar a los lectores que mi alumno, Dr. Héctor Enríquez, ha completado exitosamente un libro
que seguramente está a la altura de otros mencionados en este prefacio. Su libro de texto contiene 111 capítulos ampliamente detallados, revisados exhaustivamente, con autoridad y amplio número de referencias.
Este libro es un compendio completo de los conceptos actuales en cirugía colorrectal. No me cabe duda
que sus lectores se beneficiarán tremendamente de las numerosas contribuciones de una gran variedad de
colaboradores latinoamericanos. Un aspecto adicional de este libro, que lo distingue de otros, es el número
de capítulos en donde el Dr. Héctor Enríquez es el autor o coautor. Hay que reconocerle por haber tenido el
tiempo y perseverancia para compilar este libro y el esfuerzo adicional para ser autor y coautor de muchos
capítulos espléndidos. Es mi deseo felicitar al Dr. Enríquez Blanco por este logro maravilloso y también
felicitar al lector al adquirir lo que será claramente una obra maestra académica.
