Vocations and Ordinations
Last weekend I had the
privilege of attending the
ordination to the Transitional
Diaconate of my young cousin

I Have Sinned Against the Lord—11th Sunday of Ordinary Time
Samuel 12:7–10, 13. David, the king, examines his heart and confesses his sin.
And the prophet Nathan declares God’s forgiveness. Quite a gift from an even
greater king! It is the way to peace in our lives: recognizing our sins and accusing
ourselves before God’s representative. “The Lord on his part has forgiven your sin.” How is it with you?
Psalm 32:1–2, 5, 7, 11. There is real guilt for actual wrongs. Not covering over our real sins leads to gladness and joy so
great that it is call supernatural joy.
Galatians 2:16, 19–20. Paul tried to be right with God by observing the Mosaic Law, even to the point of killing Christians,
until he met Jesus. Then he realized that salvation was through faith in Jesus and forgiveness. Jesus brings this new life: “I
have been crucified with Christ; yet I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me.”
The Gospel of Luke 7:36—8:3. The Pharisee does not ask for forgiveness, thinks he has no sin and can judge the sins of
others. But he does not see his own sins. He loves little, lacks compassion, and judges both Jesus and the woman rashly,
and cruelly. The woman seeks Jesus out to be with him and thank Him, profusely. She knows and accepts her sinfulness
but knows the joy of forgiveness. She is overwhelmed with love, in particular for Jesus. Are you a forgiven sinner and a
devout and supportive follower of Jesus; or are you cold and self-righteous?

VOCACIONES Y ORDENACIONES
La semana pasada, tuve el privilegio de asistir a la ordenación al Diaconado de Transición de mi
primo Clay. Su ordenación fue en Wichita, KS. Sólo un recordatorio de una carta anterior referente a la
ordenación diaconal de transición es para aquellos jóvenes que pasaran al sacerdocio. Por lo general, tiene
lugar un año antes de la ordenación al sacerdocio. Diaconado Permanente es para aquellos hombres que
permanecerán diáconos durante toda su vida y ministerio.
La ordenación fue de 10 hombres jóvenes. Wichita es una diócesis alrededor de un tercio del
tamaño de la Arquidiócesis de Denver. Ellos están anticipando a 15 hombres jóvenes a ser ordenados
diáconos en 2017. ¿Que es lo hace que algunas diócesis con mucho éxito en vocaciones, mientras que
otros luchan? Hay algunas respuestas sugeridas a esta pregunta. Una de las claves muy profundas a una
cultura de vocaciones es "la conciencia".
Se ha demostrado una y otra vez que las parroquias que tienen los diáconos permanentes activos
en la parroquia son también las parroquias que producen nuevas vocaciones para el diaconado. En otras
palabras, si la gente en las bancas nunca ven un diácono, no habrá una fuerte conciencia del diaconado.
Esta respuesta es bastante obvia. Funciona de manera similar con las vocaciones sacerdotales. Visibilidad
y el conocimiento son esenciales. Cuando los jóvenes ven a otro joven de tomar una decisión para el
sacerdocio, los inspira y planta una semilla de la vocación en sus mentes.
Las escuelas católicas también juegan un papel muy importante. Las estadísticas muestran que un
estudiante en una escuela católica es 6 veces más propenso a considerar la vocación sacerdotal. El mismo
número se mantiene para las chicas jóvenes que están considerando la vida religiosa. Cuando la gente
pregunta lo que ofrecen las escuelas católicas, la presencia de la conciencia profesional es de vital
importancia para nuestra iglesia universal.
Otro elemento esencial es la oración. Cada Católica tiene la responsabilidad de orar por las
vocaciones con regularidad. Esto afecta a todos los católicos en la iglesia. La presencia de sacerdotes y
religiosos en nuestra iglesia es responsabilidad de cada católico. Tenemos la suerte de nuestra parroquia
para tener un Club Serra muy activo. Serra clubes apoya y promociona las vocaciones. Los Caballeros de
Colón también tienen como parte de su misión la promoción de las vocaciones. También son activos en
nuestra parroquia. Y, dentro de nuestra comunidad de habla hispana, hay una hermosa práctica de orar
activamente por las vocaciones. Cada semana, en la misa de español, una familia se inscriba en la tarea
de orar por las vocaciones en la próxima semana. Toman la "cruz peregrina" de vocación en sus hogares,
y rezan por las vocaciones durante la semana, y luego regresar la cruz para la siguiente familia.
Yo estaba hablando con un sacerdote de más edad en Wichita en la ordenación, y afirmó que no
estaban seguros de lo que van a hacer con todos estos sacerdotes durante los próximos dos años. ¡Que
bello problema van a tener! Conservemos en nuestras oraciones a nuestros jóvenes seminaristas: Diácono

y se puso a hablar, y él se lo dio a su madre. El temor se apoderó de todos, y glorificaban a Dios,
diciendo: «Un gran profeta se ha levantado entre nosotros», y «Dios ha visitado a su pueblo». Y lo que
se decía de él, se propagó por toda Judea y por toda la región circunvecina.

en el centro parroquial, es urgente y necesario que todos los
responsables y que ayudan en el ministerio hispano vengan
a esta junta, nuestro nuevo párroco va participar de esta
junta, esperamos contar con su participación.
