Dear Mayan Family:
This letter is to inform you that your child did not attain proficiency on this week’s Common Formative Assessment (CFA) in
Mathematics and is required to attend this Saturday’s Math Intervention from 8:00am -12:00pm. During Saturday’s session,
mathematics standards will be reviewed and re-taught, and at the end of the day, students will take an alternate version of
the CFA to show proficiency. Scores on the alternate version will replace scores from the previous week. Below is a summary
of important information regarding our intervention program.
What is a Common Formative Assessment?
A common formative assessment is a short quiz designed to provide students with an opportunity to show mastery of a
standard or concept. Our mathematics courses give common formative assessments (CFAs) on a weekly basis.
How are parents notified if their child needs to attend the Mathematics intervention on Saturdays? Why are parents notified
at the end of the week? Can’t parents be informed sooner?
Parents are notified by letter and by phone. Look for your child to bring home this letter at the end of the week, but also
expect to receive an automated phone call. For this reason, it is important for you to have an updated phone number in our
system. Although we would like to give notification sooner, please remember our students take the CFA during the first half
of the week. This only gives us a very short window for notification.
Who teaches the Math intervention sessions on Saturdays?
Our intervention sessions are taught by highly-qualified personnel including current Mayan faculty and retired Mathematics
teachers. All members of the intervention staff are personally known by current site administration or have received
recommendations from other site personnel.
What can parents do to help their child reach proficiency on assessments?
Parents can make sure their child goes to school each day prepared with supplies and completed homework. They can also
assist their child in reviewing material and/or send their child to the homework center before the CFA’s are given.
Who can parents contact if they have questions?
Parents can contact the Categorical Office at 619-662-8240. The Categorical office hours are Monday through Friday from
8:00am – 4:00pm.

Estimados padres de familia:
Esta carta es para informarle que en la Evaluación Formativa Estándar de matemáticas (CFA por sus siglas en inglés) su hijo/a
no alcanzó el nivel de habilidad requerido. Por esta razón es necesario que asista este sábado a la intervención de
matemáticas de 8:00am -12:00pm. Durante esta sesión se repasarán los conceptos de matemáticas y al final del día los
estudiantes tomarán otra versión del examen. Los resultados que obtenga remplazarán los de la semana anterior. A
continuación le brindamos un resumen con información importante referente al programa.
¿Qué es la Evaluación Formativa Estándar?
Es un breve cuestionario diseñado para proporcionar a los estudiantes la oportunidad de demostrar el dominio de una norma
o concepto. Los cursos de matemáticas incluyen una evaluación cada semana.
¿Como se les avisa a los padres cuando el estudiante necesita asistir a la intervención de matemáticas en sábado? ¿Por qué se
les notifica al final de la semana? ¿Podrían los padres ser notificados con más anticipación?
Los padres reciben una carta y una llamada telefónica. Revise si su hijo trae a casa una carta al final de la semana y también
espere recibir una llamada automatizada. Por esta razón, es importante para usted que tengamos en nuestro sistema su
número telefónico actualizado. Aunque quisiéramos notificarle con más tiempo, recuerde que los estudiantes son evaluados
durante los primeros tres días de la semana. Esto nos deja poco tiempo para notificarle.
¿Quién imparte las sesiones de Matemáticas en Sábados?
Las clases son impartidas por personal altamente calificado incluyendo a Maestros que actualmente laboran en la escuela y
maestros de matemáticas retirados. Todo el personal de las intervenciones es conocido por nuestros administradores o han
sido recomendados por otros planteles.
¿Que pueden hacer los padres de familia para ayudar al estudiante a alcanzar el nivel hábil en los exámenes?
Los padres pueden asegurarse de que el estudiante vaya a la escuela todos los días y bien preparado con sus materiales y
tareas terminadas. También pueden ayudar al alumno revisando sus materiales o enviándolo al Centro de Tareas antes de que
se apliquen las evaluaciones.

Pueden llamar a la oficina de Programas Categóricos al 619-662-8240. Los horarios de la oficina son de lunes a viernes de
8:00am – 4:00pm.
