The AACPS Student Scholarship Program
Your child may be eligible for a tuition scholarship for classes offered at
Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts!

Through a partnership with the Division of Advanced Studies
and Programs of Anne Arundel County Public Schools,
Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts has agreed to allot 20% of its
annual enrollment for classes offered to school-aged children
as part of AACPS Student Scholarship Program. Only students
who qualify for free and reduced meals (FARMS) are
eligible for the this program.

confirmation letter from Maryland Hall within ten days of the
application deadline.

In this 1.5 hour class parents and children will make several colorful
glass suncatchers. Children of all ages will enjoy arranging brightly
colored pieces of glass which will be heated in a kiln to fuse them

This class offers a comprehensive introduction to classic drawing
techniques. Each week’s lesson includes a new technique and material. Animal, landscape and still life studies will be completed using
drawing pencils, colored pencils, charcoal and oil pastels. Please
bring a snack, drink and a smock to class if necessary.

Ages: 6-9 | Debra Soreff
This is a fun class for kids to come and create holiday gifts for their
family. This two week workshop will include making multiple
projects created the first class. Students will use brightly colored
glazes to decorate their creations the second class. All pieces will
be finished and bagged up and available for pick up by 12/1/14 so
they can even be mailed in time for the holidays!

This class is geared towards the young artist who enjoys playing with
arts and crafts materials such as tempra paint, acrylic paint, glitter,
glue, oil pastels, special papers, scissors, yarns, stencils, and much
more! Each child will have guidance as well as technical information
to accomplish their ideas as well as class projects. Students should
bring a snack daily, smocks may be necessary.
This class is for beginning and intermediate level students. This class
offers an introduction to drawing skills through a step by step study
of medium and subject. Materials include drawing pencils, charcoal,
pastel, and oil pastel. Students may bring a photo to class for their
subject matter or choose from the numerous pictures on hand.
Please bring a snack, drink and a smock if necessary.

special gifts for the holidays. This class will give your child the opportunity to try many different mediums from painting and ceramics,
to printmaking and decoupage. No class 11/24/14.

This class is for kids who love to paint. Each child will create a large
mural on canvas in the session. Please have the kids dress in old clothes
the paint does not come out of clothing. The subject matter will be
chosen by the student and can be anything from nature. Several painting techniques will be demonstrated to help them create their own
mural. Bring several images your child likes to the first class meeting.
We will make fun and functional crafts out of items that might
otherwise be trash. Projects may include soda tab bracelets, T-shirt
tote bags, magnets, hair accessories, fabric flowers, journals and
more. Participants will be able to choose from a variety of projects
and keep their completed work. Skills may include cutting, gluing,
painting, wrapping, simple sewing, designing, planning and working in pairs.

Ages: 10-12 | Michael Brehl
This is a new class for kids to create holidays gifts to decorate their
home or for giving at the holiday season. This is a two week workshop
with a week in between for firing time. The first class several projects
will be created and on the second class meeting they will be decorated using brightly colored glazes. Students will have several project
ideas to choose from including a clay wreath and a table centerpiece.
Make a beautiful copper chain bracelet or other projects in this fun
kids workshop. Basic metalworking processes such as forging, melting,
bending, annealing and metal coloration explored. Bring a bag lunch.
Talk to teacher about parent participation (this class is fun for adults,

Students concentrate on drawing skills that will enhance designs
for contemporary fashions. Inspiration for the subject matter will be
discussed daily. Bring several of your own designs to the first class,
if available. This introductory level will cover clothing and costume
design, time periods, styles and colors. Students may bring a snack
and a drink to class.

Learn the basic planes/forms, proportions and anatomy of the
human figure. Drawing from life (clothed model) you will learn
techniques to capture the action of the pose. Working in charcoal
you will practice quick gesture drawing and move into longer
poses studying form using light and shade with an emphasis on
composition. Referencing works of the masters will be part of the

Students will begin with a variety of demonstrations using acrylics,
mediums, and different painting surfaces. Color studies continue to
create special effects to be used in their painting. Please bring several
subjects to paint to the first class. Students will be working on two
different paintings. Individuality of subject matter is encouraged.

Have fun learning how to throw on the potter’s wheel! In this 8 week
class students will learn basic techniques of centering clay, throwing
simple forms and transforming these into more developed forms,
such as vases, bowls and mugs. Glazing and decorating techniques
are also introduced. Class is suited for brand-new beginners and
those with a little experience. Bring and old small towel, a sketch
book and lots of ideas.

This drawing workshop will cover classic drawing skills through various materials and techniques. Students will concentrate on lighting
effects, form, and composition through the use of pencils, charcoals
and conte crayon. The daily lesson will be followed by open studio
time for the students to apply these drawing techniques to class
subjects as well as subjects of the students’ choice.

In this introductory class, students will explore character creation
and storytelling which is at the heart of acting for the stage. They
will experience a wide variety of activities focused on introducing
basic theater concepts such as ensemble, actor’s tools, sharing the
stage, dialogue, and action! This class introduces the young actor
to a variety of techniques within the world of theater. For more

class takes place at Compass Rose Theater located at 49 Spa Road,
Annapolis, MD 21401.
The class is based on finding free and easy movement that incorporates ballet and jazz as well as other performance techniques. A
great beginner class for actors who want to learn dance styles for
the theatre, as well as how to move on stage.
Students need form-fitting dancewear and jazz or character shoes
(1–2 inch heel max).

Young Company offers yearlong classes, divided into 3 sessions, in
classical performance techniques, focusing on the understanding of
Shakespeare’s plays and language. In particular, we will be studying
how an actor can use the text to fully access Shakespeare’s genius.
Teens will be immersed in Shakespeare’s characters, plots, and poetry. Through text work and acting exercises, students will expand
their performance skills, verbal dexterity, audience connection and
physical presence. Students must interview to be accepted and
are expected to memorize text and perform in a public showcase.

This class is designed for families of all ages! Price is per person.
A series of workshops that focuses on sound, motion and connection through improvisational exercises. Group improv is taught
through various exercises in this fun group workshop. Youth and
adults learn to think on their feet and creatively solve problems
while working with an ensemble. It gives families common ground
to bond through very active, fun improv games.

Kid dancers needed. Includes hip hop, Broadway, lyrical, Latin and
traditional technique and combinations. Plus students will have the
opportunity to work on their own choreography. No matter what
level dancer you are, this class will work for you! There will be an
end of session performance.
From traditional to hip hop moves, students will learn various jazz
dance techniques, plus have an opportunity to choreograph their
own dances. The final class will be a showcase of dances. Attire:
Jazz shoes, leotard, tights, jazz pants or leggings. Please contact the

Please contact Nicole Kelsch, School Principal, at 410-263-8289 for
more information regarding the Ballet Theatre of Maryland Program.
This class is a continuation of Pre-Ballet 1, with special emphasis on
increased exercises for strength, coordination, flexibility, and alignment. Rhythmic movement and music is emphasized. Classical
ballet vocabulary is introduced and the foundation for the Student
Program begins. Note: Students must be age 6 on or before July 1,
2014. The attire for all classes, except where otherwise noted, is as
follows: Girls: Black BTM leotard, pink tights, and pink ballet slippers
Please Note: BTM ës black leotard may be purchased exclusively
through BTM. Order forms are available on the website, www.balletmaryland.org, or by calling our office at 410-263-8289. Forms will
also be available in classrooms the first few weeks of class. No jewelry
allowed. Hair must be neatly pulled back from the face into a bun.
Boys: White t-shirt, black tights and white or black ballet slippers.

This level-3 foundation class stresses simple, correct ballet technique,
response to music, creative movement and children’s mime. One
to two years of previous training helpful but not necessary. There
is a $25 materials fee due on the first class for new students only.
This pays for the pink or white knee-high socks and the Academy
Ballet School name tag. Please make out the check to Eileen Razzetti. Pre-Ballet 4 dress code: Girls: Royal Academy of Dance lilac
short sleeve leotard and skirt, available through the school store at
