About Offerings
During the Centenary Year (2011-2012)
celebration of our absolutely
beautiful church, our Parish family
came home for Mass and we
remembered
one
another with the
flowers that adorn
the Altar, with the candles that light
up the Sanctuary, with the bread and
wine that is offered, and of course in
the way par excellence, we
remembered one another in the
Priest’s Mass Intention that is
lifted up with the help of all of our
other remembrances! Thank you
for coming home and remembering one another!

 A MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR 
22 MAY 2016
YOU CAN HELP US NOT TO RUN OUT OF WINE
On Pentecost Sunday (the fiftieth and final day of the
Glorious Season of Easter), “(we) were all gathered in
one place/church” where together we prayed: “Lord
send out Your Spirit”. And so it happened: the Holy
Spirit came and changed bread and wine into the
Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Christ Jesus so that
through those present, the Lord could “renew the face
of the earth” in the Freeport Fire Department, the
Freeport Police Department, the Freeport Little
League, Meadowbrook Care Facility, South Shore
Nursing Home, Freeport Public Schools, namely
anywhere and everywhere those present for Mass
were sent to go in Peace glorifying God with their
lives.
Implicit in the renewal of the face of the earth is the
renewal of the men, women, boys, and girls who inhabit it; those who make up Freeport’s Fire Department,
Police Department, Little League, Healthcare Facilities, and Public Schools. Their presence, your presence, our
presence gathered in one place where the Holy Spirit descends Sunday after Sunday to teach us everything and
remind us of all that Jesus told us, is therefore absolutely necessary for the earth’s renewal (cf. Saint John
XIV:26). It is there in that one place where we choose the better part, sit at the feet of Jesus with Mary the
sister of Martha and Lazarus (cf. Saint Luke X:38-42), and listen to Him (Saint Luke IX:35).
Nowhere else but in Jesus can we find the Way to renew our relationship with God and the world (cf. Acts
IV:12). And so it is that I invite you to consider the ways that you can help people recognize Him in the
breaking of the bread after all, we are all called to put our gifts at the service of one another (cf. I Saint Peter
iv:10-11a); ways that you can help renew the face of the Sacred Liturgy! Use the Gift to welcome parishioners,
visitors, and guests when they arrive for Mass by becoming an Usher (Call Judy Germaine at (516) 580-3160).
Use the Gift to allow the Word to become Flesh and dwell amongst us by becoming a Lector (call Charles
Shields at (516) 546-1894). Use the Gift to help us
pray twice by becoming a Choir member (call
Michael Crouse at (516) 526-9184). Use the Gift to
serve at the Altar by becoming an Altar Server (call
Father Alessandro at (516) 378-0665). Maybe you
are being called to use the Gift by becoming a
Deacon or a Priest (call Father Arcoleo at (516) 3780665)?
Before you call to inquire about becoming an Usher,
a Lector, a Choir member, an Altar Server, a Deacon,
or a Priest for Our Holy Redeemer, be sure to answer
the call of Our Holy Redeemer Who said: “Come to
Me” and then at His feet, listen to Him, “Do
whatever He tells you” (Saint John II:5) and renew
the face of the Earth!
NOW A WORD FROM OUR SAINTS
(ABOUT MARY)
“The purer are your words and your glances, the
more pleasing will you be to the Blessed Virgin.
And the greater will be the graces that she will
obtain for you from her Divine Son.”
“Ask Mary for the grace to love our
Lord as she loves Him and to remain
faithful to Him in life and death.”
 Saint Bernadette 
 Saint John Bosco 
“Blessed are those who cherish
the name of Mary. Her favor will
sustain them in the midst of trials,
and they will bring forth fruits
of salvation.”
”Do you wish to know the most intimate
perfections of Jesus and the most hidden
attractions of His love? Then seek them
in the heart of Mary.”
 Saint Peter Julian Eymard 
 Saint Anthony of Padua 
“So pleasing to God was Mary’s
humility that He was consecrated by
His goodness to entrust to her the
Word. His only Son. And it was that
dearest Mary who gave Him to us.”
“The name of Mary contains the
brilliance of the virtues, the sweet
refulgence of modesty and the
sacrifice pleasing to God. It is the
sign of hospitality and the
center of holiness.”
 Saint Catherine of Siena 
“May the Blessed Virgin Mary help
me to live a holy life and die a holy
death. Then at the last instance of
my life, may she come to my
assistance and lead me to Heaven.”
 Saint Francis Xavier 
“In danger, anguish, or doubt, think of Mary
and call upon her! Following her, you will
never lose your way. Praying to her, you will
never sink into despair. Contemplating her,
you will never go wrong.”
 Saint Dominic 
 Saint Bernard 
“We cannot enter a house without
first speaking to the porter.
Similarly, we cannot enter Heaven
without calling upon the aid of the
Blessed Virgin Mary who is the
Portress of Heaven.”
“The Blessed Virgin once said to me: ‘You
think that I obtained grace and virtue
without effort. Know that I received no
graces from God without great labor,
constant prayer, ardent desires, and
many tears and mortifications.’”
 Saint John Marie Vianney 
 Saint Elizabeth of Hungary 
“Those who burn with the fire of Divine Love are
children of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and
wherever they go they enkindle that flame. Nothing
distresses them, they rejoice in poverty, labor
strenuously, welcome hardships, laugh off false
accusations, and rejoice in anguish.”
 Saint Anthony Claret 
“When the Holy Spirit finds Mary in
a soul, He flies to it. He enters
therein and communicates Himself
to that soul in abundance.”
 Saint Louis de Montfort 

Please Help Our Veterans!
Monday, 30 May 2016 is Memorial Day. Please consider coming home to Our Holy Redeemer at 9:00 A.M. for
a Mass of remembrance in thanksgiving for the men and women of our Armed Forces who answered a call to
defend the inalienable rights of their fellow Americans, and died in that defense.
At that Mass, we will also remember and pray for our active military men and women, our "missing in action/
(mia)", our "prisoners of war/(pow)", and our homeless veterans and disabled veterans like ‘Charles’, who
through our Parish's support of the Catholic Ministries Appeal, have been helped through our ministries and
programs like Catholic Charities Project Veterans’ Independence.
Charles spent seventeen years deployed around the world defending freedom. After being injured in an
accident, he was honorably discharged and sent home. Life at home proved difficult for Charles, and he began
to struggle with debilitating bouts of anxiety and depression. As circumstances worsened, he moved in with
his mother, but within a year found himself homeless in the aftermath of his mother’s death and home
foreclosure. And that’s when he found the CMA or as Charles puts it: “they found me and helped me not only
find a place to live – but they helped me turn my life around.”
Please visit www.CatholicMinistriesAppeal.org and see for yourself how you and your contributions are helping
people like Charles and so many others, and consider making a CMA-pledge today!

NEWS FROM THE DE LA SALLE SCHOOL
A courtroom can often be an intimidating place. For many people speaking in front of an
audience is a daunting task. Saturday morning is frequently a time to sleep late. None of
those factors stopped the ten students on The De La Salle School’s Mock Trial team from
having a successful experience at Saint John’s University School of Law earlier this month.
Our students represented the plaintiff in a cyberbullying case. The defendant’s counsel was
provided by students from Saint Brigid/Our Lady of Hope Regional School in Westbury.
Coached by attorneys Susan Santoro Bevilacqua and Grace Moran the De La Salle men had a
unique opportunity to display their skills in the official Mock Trial Room at Saint John’s. All
the participants agreed it was an exciting experience.
This optional opportunity helped hone our students’ Christian values, introduced them to key aspects of our
democracy, and encouraged them to be articulate and critical thinkers.

FAITH AND MUSIC
Notes from our Music Director, Michael Crouse
How about another exciting Concert Series on the Mile?!
Last summer Our Holy Redeemer sponsored our second concert
series at 175 Woodcleft Avenue, also home of our weekly "Mass on
the Waterfront". Under the direction of Michael Crouse, we provided
six evenings of wonderful and varied entertainment, culminating with
a sacred and secular program performed by members of the Our Holy
Redeemer Choir and the “Greater Voices of Praise Choir” from the
Greater Second Baptist Church of Freeport. Other evenings featured
artists such as These Three Tenors, the Freeport High School Alumni,
the Voices, and more. Many in attendance have been asking if we
are going to do it again...and the answer is...with your help...YES!
We are asking for both your input and your donations to raise enough funds to once again support this
summer's series. At the end of this page there are a few questions that will help us to plan the best
evenings for these programs, so that as many of you as possible may attend.
We also plan to create another decorative plaque with the names of each person, business, or family who
donates $100.00 dollars (or more) towards the funding of the series, which will be displayed throughout
the concert series at 175 Woodcleft Avenue.
We hope many more will take advantage of these wonderful evenings of music, and we need your help in
spreading the word!
It would be of great assistance if you would take the time to answer the following questions, and then
return the questionnaire to the rectory by _________________________:
1. Were you able to attend any of the concerts last summer?
If yes, how many? _________ Did you find it an enjoyable evening?

6:30 P.M. Dinner (Hosted by Discovering Christ)
7:30 P.M. Presentation by Dr. Jennifer Donelson
Director of Sacred Music, Saint Joseph’s Seminary in Yonkers
Lower Church
**Free will offering**
Please RSVP to the Rectory at (516) 378-0665 if you plan to attend the dinner
"Late have I loved thee, O Beauty ever ancient, ever new!” These words of Saint
Augustine capture the longing of every heart for God, whether one is a practicing
Catholic or living a life far from God. As a reflection of the beauty of Christ,
sacred music draws minds and hearts to God and can serve as a tool to open even the
hardest hearts to the graces that God desires to give them. Sacred music, which the
Second Vatican Council calls a “treasure of inestimable value,” is effective in preaching
the Gospel in an authentic and attractive way, and it aids those who hear it in being
more readily able to perceive the presence of Christ at the holy sacrifice of the Mass.
Dr. Jennifer Donelson, Director of Sacred Music at Saint Joseph’s Seminary
(Dunwoodie) in Yonkers, will address how Catholics can learn to pray through sacred music, and how truly
beautiful sacred music is an essential means for drawing fallen-away Catholics back to the Church, as well
as sharing the faith with those who are not yet members of the Church.
Building up the Church through Sacred Music
Saturday, 11 June 2016
12:00 P.M. Sacred Music Workshop
5:00 P.M. Holy Mass in Chant
Please join Dr. Jennifer Donelson for an afternoon learning the melodies that
are the basis for all Western music. We’ll cover the basics of reading
Gregorian chant notation, as well as beautifully shaping musical lines.
Practical sessions in singing will be supplemented by short talks on how
Gregorian chant has served as a means for building up the life of the Church in
times past, and how chant can revitalize the life of the Church in the present
day. The afternoon will culminate in a sung Mass for the Commemoration of
the 105th Anniversary of the Dedication of the Church of Our Holy Redeemer in
Freeport, New York.
Please RSVP to Father Alessandro da Luz at (516) 378-0665 if you will be
participating in the workshop and plan to sing at the 5:00 P.M. Mass.

SCRIPTURE REFLECTION
Today we celebrate the Feast of the “Most Holy Trinity” against the background of Jesus’
words: “He [the Holy Spirit] will guide you to all truth” (See John 16:12-15). Why is it important
that we believe in the Trinity? This doctrine tells us that Jesus is God by virtue of the fact that
the Son of God must be consubstantial with the Father. Just like man begets man, and horse
begets horse, God begets God. Think about it. Unless we believe this, the sacrifice of the cross
loses most of its meaning. Only if God died for us on the cross can we believe that our sins
have been forgiven. Only if God died for us on the cross can we believe that God loves us and
that His loves for us is unconditional. The Holy Spirit has guided his Church throughout the
centuries and from the very beginning the Church has believed that Jesus is the Son of God,
that is, that He is “God from God, Light from Light, true God from True God, begotten, not
made, consubstantial with the Father” as we recite in the creed every Sunday.

(Hechos I: 9).

ONE GOD,

PERSONS
Jesus said to His disciples,
“I have much more to tell
you, but you cannot bear it
now. But when He comes,
the Spirit of truth, He will
guide you all to truth. He
will not speak on His own,
but He will speak what He
hears, and will declare to
you the things that are
coming. He will glorify Me,
because He will take from
what is Mine and declare it
to you. Everything that the
Father has is Mine, for this
reason I told you that He
will take from what is Mine
and declare it to you.”
