Generosity and forgiveness…forgiveness and generosity are inseparable when we walk the path of
discipleship. We are generous with our time, talent and treasure because it is a reflection of God’s
generosity in the gift of love. We are also generously forgiving because in relationships of love we
discover the depths of God’s forgiveness as we share our life and love with those around us.
Matthew Kelly in Rediscover Jesus puts it this way; “It is impossible to separate the spiritual teachings of Jesus Christ from his social teachings, just as it is impossible to separate the love of God
from our love of neighbor. The dual command to love God and love neighbor are inseparable…Our
love of neighbor is the proof that we love God.” (p 67)
The practice of our faith must always be both of heart and hands. We are called to listen to the living Word of God,
Jesus, with attentiveness permitting him to convert our hearts. It is then that we are invited to move in generous
love in the active life of a disciple. The listening in prayer allows us to see how our active participation in the world
is the work of God and the hope of the Kingdom of God. In this time when so much violence and strife injures our
world, our prayerful and active participation in life is a witness to God’s generosity and forgiveness.
God Bless, Fr. Mark
July Tips of the Month - Living a merciful life.
Dear brothers and sisters, In this Jubilee Year of Mercy, to continue expanding on the ideas of living our lives according
to the 14 Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy - we would like to offer you a few practical tips on how to live the 5th
Spiritual Work of Mercy: Forgive offenses or injuries. This is probably one of the most difficult Catholic teachings
to live by: to forgive those who had caused us pain, or injuries. But this could also be thought as one of the best Catholic teachings because forgiving others will cleanse our heart and break us free from the shackles of hatred. To practice this spiritual work of mercy, we urge you to practice some of the following:
1. Say the "Our Father" prayer and ask God to give you the grace of forgiveness.
2. Find ways to bring yourself closer to God - so you could hear him better. This could be done by prayers, by conversations with God or by receiving His Body and Blood.
3. Try to remind yourself this person is your brother or sister in Christ - as we all are children of God.
4. Try to look into the offender's goodness; and recognize that he is human and, thus, has flaws.
5. When you attend Mass, offer the Mass to the person who had offended you. He needs your mercy as much as your
prayers.
"...and forgive our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us..." From Our Father Prayer
