Estamos presentando este nuevo material de difusión que será distribuido
para dar a conocer lo mejor de Ancud. Con ello, queremos mostrar a los
visitantes y a nuestros propios vecinos las rutas y lugares más bellos de
nuestra comuna, pero también queremos renovar el compromiso que
tenemos con el turismo.
Quedan muchos desafíos y este es un pequeño paso más en la enorme
tarea que tenemos como comunidad, de desarrollar el rubro que sin duda
será nuestro futuro. Desde que asumí el gobierno comunal, nos hemos
enfrentado a la demanda de mejorar los servicios para el turista que llega a
Ancud, de hacerlos sentir como en su casa, en esta línea, impulsar nuevos
proyectos para el crecimiento económico de la comuna.
Estamos trabajando para que nuestros visitantes se sientan cada vez más
cómodos y quieran siempre regresar a este paraíso en el sur de Chile,
apoyando a los emprendedores y a los esforzados prestadores de servicios;
estamos capacitando y abriendo mercados para los productores, artesanos
y para quienes se dedican a la gastronomía local.
Pero sobre todo, trabajamos para que los ancuditanos se sientan cada vez
más orgullosos de vivir en Ancud.
Los invitamos a recorrer parte de lo mejor de lo nuestro a través de este
nuevo material, que desde el municipio hemos elaborado.

Tour route 1: Route to Caulín
The coastal village of Chacao is known
for its old wooden church, first built in
1710, and its traditional-style houses,
examples of our way of life in the
archipelago. We invite you to tour along
the Coastal Route to the indigenous
community of Estero-Chacao, and
to visit a “ruka” (a local word for the
traditional pre-Columbian thatched
houses) and a smokehouse, where
villagers prepare various local products
from our natural environment for
the market. Along the way, we pass
through the seaside towns of Caulín
Alto, Puerto Elvira, and Caulín Bajo,
where there are eco-tour paths for bird
watching. Some of the many varieties
are migratory birds, black-neck swans
all year round, crying gulls, sand pipers,
and in the winter, our pink flamingoes.
Next, we arrive at the bay of Pugueñon
and Pihuio, where there are footpaths
with a fossil bed of petrified larches.
Tourist services are available here as
well. As we return toward Ancud, we
join Route 5 again at Quempillén. There
are hillside lookouts here with good
lookouts for birdwatchers, cabañas,
and sports activities. It’s a great place to
appreciate our city.
La villa tradicional de Chacao, se
caracteriza por su iglesia y sus casas
típicas, muestra del universo que
encierra nuestro archipelago. Le
invitamos a recorrer la ruta costera,
primero la comunidad indígena de
Estero Chacao, apreciaran una ruka
y fogón ahumador donde gente del
sector comercializa elementos típicos
de nuestra tierra.
Al recorrido se sumaran Caulín Alto,
Puerto Elvira y Caulín Bajo, donde
existen senderos ecoturísticos, en la
costa podran apreciar aves migratorias,
cisnes de cuello negro todo el año,
gaviotas chilles, zarapitos y en invierno
serán deleitados por el rosa de nuestros
Flamencos; al seguir rumbo a Ancud
esta Pugueñun, localidad que cuenta
con servicios Turísticos, senderos
y alerces petrificados, presentes
en la bahía de Pugueñun Pihuio.
Continuando el recorrido retomamos
la ruta cinco a la altura de Quempillen,
lugar de miradores y avistamiento de
aves migratorias, existen centros con
cabañas, actividades deportivas, lugar
ideal para apreciar nuestra ciudad y
realizar actividades deportivas.

Tour route 2: Route del Origen
Desde Chacao accedemos a la ruta
costera rumbo a Coñimo, donde
encontrara la ruka Huilliche de la Sra.
Laura. Siguiendo el camino rumbo a
Ancud pasamos por los sectores de
Huilqueco, Caipulli y Quempillén, que
fueron viejos asentamientos indígenas.
Al pasar por la ciudad de Ancud podrá
visitar artesanía de origen y continuar
al noroeste hasta el cruce de Pilluco,
en donde a la mano izquierda está
la Ruca de la Sra. Ernestina Huaike,
encontrando artesanías y muestras
del oficio en un típico telar huilliche.
Continuamos hasta el Puente Quilo
donde se puede visitar el Museo de
la Familia González, lugar donde
fueron extraídas 3 momias de 6.000
años de data aprox. Seguimos el viaje
hasta Polocué y Playa Rosaura, lugar
de aprendizaje indígena, donde se
aprecian los basaltos columnares,
de piedras hexagonales, de una
increíble conformación geológica
que son analizadas por científicos
internacionales. Finalizamos la ruta en
playa Punta de Arenas, ubicada en la
Península de Lacuy, lugar donde estuvo
tres veces Charles Darwin y donde
existe un extenso conchal que da
cuenta de un asentamiento indígena.
From Chacao we follow the coast
road south to Coñimo, location of
the Ruka Huilliche de la Sra. Laura. As
we return toward the city of Ancud,
we pass through Huilqueco. Caipulli,
and Quempillén, sites of original
indigenous settlements. In Ancud, we
visit artisans with their original work on
display. From there, we continue to the
west to the crossroads at Pilluco, near
La Ruca de la Sra. Ernestina Huaike,
with craft workshops and a traditional
loom from the Huilliche ethnicity.
Then we continue onward to Puente
Quilo and the Museum of the Gonzalez
family, where there were discovered
three mummified bodies about 6,000
years old. The tour continues to
Polocué and Rosaura Beach, the site of
hexagonal basalt columns. These rock
formations are a geological landmark
that has been studied by international
scientists. We come to the end of this
tour route at the beach of Punta de
Arenas on the Lacuy Penninsula, the
location of an ancient indigenous
settlement and a place Charles Darwin
visited three times.

The old Spanish fortification of
San Antonio is located on Lord
Cochrane street on the heights
of the city of Ancud. This fort was
built in 1770 and armed with
bronze cannons to dominate the
bay and protect the entrance to
the port. The fort and batteries
on the other side of the channel
are accessible by boat from the
main dock, or by road, a distance
of 34 km. Fort Ahui and the two
batteries, Chaicura and Balcacura,
are staffed and provide services
and site information. The three
fortifications provide insight into
the Spanish navel defense strategy
of the era, as well as a great view.

rumbo a Chepu, que se encuentra a 25 kms, este es el rio más
grande de Chiloé con múltiples
escenarios, gran biodiversidad,
navegaciones, pesca deportiva,
centro de agroturismo, kayak y
aventura, puerta de entrada a
Parque Nacional Chiloé, donde
se observan las pinguineras de
awenko, y conocer el sector de
Lar y Río Pescao.

En calle Lord Cochrane se
encuentra el fuerte San Antonio,
antigua fortificación española,
construida en 1770 en la parte alta
de la ciudad de Ancud, protegida
por cañones de bronce que
dominaban la entrada al Puerto.
Desde el muelle de la ciudad se
puede acceder a los fuertes y
baterías instalados en la península
de Lacuy vía marítima, por tierra
la distancia entre Ancud a las
fortificaciones es de 34 km.
En las Baterías de Chaicura y
Balcacura y en el fuerte Ahui se
encuentra personal capacitado
y áreas de servicios además de
información en el interior de las
fortificaciones. En estos lugares
se puede apreciar la estructura y
defensa española, reconocer la
escencia mestiza y disfrutar de la
vista.

Leaving Ancud, this route goes
south on Route 5 to the Mechaico
Bridge, where you can find dining,
kayaking and trekking through
the forest. The next destination
further south on Rte. 5 is at the
San Antonio bridge, site of the first
agro-tourism site in Chile, hosted
by the Dimter Maaldonado family.
Near the end of this 25-km. route
is Chepu, a village on the biggest
river in Chiloé. This town hosts
many activities: sport fishing,
trekking agro-tourism, kayaking,
and an entrance to the National
Park of Chiloé.

siempre señalizada a mano
izquierda, tras 25 km. De un
hermoso camino que sorprende
en sus distintos verdes, esta
Puñihuil, islotes declarados
monumento natural, que
conservan a una gran diversidad
de especies, como Pingüinos
magallánicos, de Humboldt, y una
nueva especie hibrida producto
de la unión de ambos, desde la
playa accede a uno de los parajes
más bellos de Chiloé, Pumillahue
y Duatao, donde también se
encuentran servicios de camping,
gastronomía y alojamiento.

From Ancud to the coast, thee is
a left turn at the Pilluco fork and
continue along the country road
to Puñihuil. The offshore islets
have been declared a natural
monument, a protected area for
diverse species. Both Magellan
and Humboldt penguins as well
as a new species – a hybrid of
these two – share this nesting site.
Further along the road are the
villages of Pumillahue and Duatao,
where you can find camping,
dining and lodging.

observación y reconocimiento de
la diversidad concentrada en el
archipiélago, luego en Ancud esta
la ruta de Pauldeo & Lajas Blancas,
donde se puede caminar por los
cerros que circundan la ciudad.
Desde la península de Lacuy es
posible acceder a los Senderos de
Chile, un programa del Gobierno que
promueve las caminatas por nuestro
borde costero, las rutas son las playas
de Guabun, Chonos, Rosaura, Mar
Brava, Pumillahue, Duatao, Chepu
finalizando en la Playa Anway,
desembocadura del río Chepu.
Las rutas no estando en óptimas
condiciones son perfectamente
transitables y poseen diversas
indicaciones de norte a sur.
Eleven km. west of Chacao is a
trailhead named “Senda Darwin,”
marked with a roadside sign. This
trail is known for its concentration
of biodiversity in the archipelago.
Ask in Ancud or Chacao for recent
information about hours. West from
Ancud in Pauldeo and Lajas Blancas,
you can hike up the hills surrounding
the city. On the Lacuy Penninsula is
a section of Los Senderos de Chile, a
government program promoting the
national coastal hiking trails. These
routes go along the beaches of
Guabun, Chonos, Rosaura, Mar Brava,
Pumillahue, Duatao, Chepu, and
finally to Anway at the mouth of the
Chepu River. These hiking paths are
in some places a bit rough but safe
and passable and have signs from
north to south.

En el año 2014, Ancud es
declarada como la Capital de la
Ostra, un hito único en lo que a
rutas culinarias se refiere, con una
alianza entre la Universidad Santo
Tomas sus unidades educativas,
turísticas y científicas en conjunto
con la I. Municipalidad de Ancud,
se potenció el tema en las

Tour route 8: The churches of Chiloé
También existe una Ruta de las
Iglesias, un servicio completo
alrededor de la isla en donde
se pueden conocer las diversas
Iglesias del archipiélago.
La ruta comienza en el Centro
de Visitantes en Ancud ubicado
en calle Errázuriz 227, en este
lugar existe un museo que
se transforma en el centro
de partida de la Ruta de
las Iglesias. En la plaza de
Chacao nos encontramos con
su respectiva iglesia, rodeada
de infraestructura típica de
Chiloé, siguiendo por la costa
llegaremos a la iglesia de
Manao para continuar el paso
por las localidades de Aucho
y Quemchi, luego a Aucar
donde tras atravesar un largo
puente se puede acceder a
la pequeña isla y su Iglesia
ubicada en el centro. Más al sur
están las localidades de Colo y
Quicavi. Retomando el trayecto
llegaremos hasta las iglesias
de Tenaún, San Juan de Calén
y Dalcahue, posteriormente
habrá que embarcarse para
cruzar hasta Curaco de
Velez, donde finalmente
nos encontraremos con las
imponentes iglesias de Achao y
Quinchao.
This route is the tour of the Churches
of Chiloé, which goes all around the
archipelago. To begin this route,
first visit the Centro de Visitantes in
Ancud, at Calle Errázuriz 227 (see
map p. 27.) This center is a museum
dedicated to the Route of the
Chiloé Churches, with information
for sightseers. The first tour stop is
on the plaza of Chacao, where the
church is surrounded by typical
Chiloé houses. Following the coastal
road to the south, the next church
is in Manao. The route continues on
to churches in Aucho and Quemchi,
and then over a bridge to the island
village and church of Aucar. Further
south are Colo and Quicavi, Tenaún,
San Juan de Calén, and Dalcahue.
From here, the route goes by ferry
to the island of Curaco, with its
imposing churches of Achao and
Quinchao.
