PRESENTA
EL LUGAR SIN LÍMITES
"Daniel Doña is at the forefront of a
generation of dancers and flamenco
dancers that is trying to find its own
choreographic and interpretative voice
through Flamenco and Spanish dance,
while expanding it to other artistic
disciplines. In reality, it's the search for an
identity, the need to escape certain
constraining corsets. Flamenco is at its
root, but [his] fascination for different
dance forms, including contemporary
dance, allows him to take them on as his
own. He is a dancer who has fed from
different sources and has forged a distinct
personality through the clarity of his
movement, solid technique, sobriety,
musicality, quality and good ideas executed
with great efficiency. His creative facet is
simply a reflection of his performing facet.
With Flamenco and Spanish dance as their
base, his choreographies explore different
fields with a constant balance, knowledge
and decisiveness, without complexes or
fear of the unknown."
Julio Bravo, ABC
Dancer and choreographer Daniel Doña moves between innovative
Flamenco and dance in its most contemporary form, avoiding all
disciplinary boundaries.
The MAX Performing Arts Award for Best Choreography for the
show "De Cabeza" places Daniel Doña as one of the principal
exponents of current Spanish dance, uniting the artistic essence of
different styles in his work. Leading his own team since 2004, his
company has become one of the most innovative examples of the
national and international dance scene, with productions that
combine tradition with the new trends in Spanish dance and
Flamenco.
Alongside Olga Pericet and Marco Flores, he co-founds the dance
company CHANTA LA MUI (2005-2010), considered as a reference
in the flamenco and contemporary dance scene of the last decade
for its choreographic concepts and language. He creates the
company PROYECTO GR (2011-2013) with Manuel Liñan, with
whom he is nominated for a Max Performing Arts Award for Best
Choreography for the show "REW."

SYNOPSIS
"VERTIGO, A Place without Limits" is a
multidisciplinary show based on the
relationship between strangers in search
for different ways to connect, as they
question limits and affect each other's
universes. A crossing of languages
characteristic of a contemporary reality,
in which various artistic expressions of
flamenco and contemporary dance are
integrated. An exploration of different
fields, but always looking for a balance
between the traditional and the
avant-garde.
A show that responds to Daniel Doña's
impulse to approach other domains, to
collaborate with artists with a defined
background and personality, whom he
admires, but with whom he has never
worked. They place their bodies in
relationship with one another, develop
concepts that take them to the
unknown and observe how the curiosity
and interests that arise bring them
together in one form or another.
THE ARTISTIC EXPRESSIONS
THAT FORM THE SHOW'S BACKBONE
SET DESIGN
VISUAL PROJECTIONS
COSTUMES
LIGHTING DESIGN
MUSIC
SET DESIGN
The set design is an essential artistic
expression of the show, an instrument that serves both the action and
communication. Set designer Davinia
Fillol starts off with an orthogonal
framework, a conceptual abstraction
of parallel worlds that cohabit and
relate with one another. Inspired by
Cartesian axes, the space unfolds
before a meeting of images, music,
dance and spoken word, reflecting a
search for balance between the
constructive rationality in which the
performers create their environment
and the sensitivity with which the
story is told.
VISUAL PROJECTIONS
The intention of the visuals in "VERTIGO, A Place without Limits," is to
convert the surface upon which they
are projected into a separate choreographic space. They become a window
into the exploration of dance that
offers the audience an escape on
stage, an exchange of looks, a multiple vision. "MOVEMENT AND THE
PASSAGE OF TIME" are the two
themes which dominate the show's
visual projections. Through these
themes we observe what new world
appears and how they both communicate when put side by side. Two
concepts which are perhaps extreme,
different languages, but have a
common dialogue: "Transformation."
The artists responsible for threading
these aspects together are dancer
and choreographer Manuel Liñan,
film director Pedro Pérez Martí and
cinematographer Guillermo López Ros.
COSTUMES
Yaiza Pinillos proposes costume designs
inspired by a universe of minimalistic
lines, which help define the characters
and aesthetically drives the show's general concept forward. Familiar with the use
artists make of costumes on stage, Ms.
Pinillos conceives her designs searching
for a balance between practicality and
artistry. She works to create a “second
skin” which allows the spectator to
define the performers based mainly on
the show's choreographic and theatrical
language. The success in her versatility is
grounded in two fundamental concepts:
the material and the design.
The choice of the material is based on the
shows' and artists' technical, aesthetic
and conceptual necessities. The fabric is
part of the garment's concept and is
therefore modified. A graduate in Art
History, Ms. Pinillos' knowledge of attire
from different time periods allows her to
generate certain codes that adjust themselves to the show's conceptual and
choreographic sensibility.
LIGHTING DESIGN
As is customary in Daniel Doña's
productions, lighting design is a
fundamental aspect, completing the
message and style of his shows. In
"VERTIGO," the lighting is another
tool which helps interpret the
choreographic and theatrical concept,
guiding the audience's focus towards
the show's essential aspects: the
dancers' and musicians' bodies, the
set, the visual projections and the
costumes. For this purpose, Doña has
included a regular collaborator in his
projects, lighting designer Olga García.
MUSIC
En VÉRTIGO, El lugar sin límites The
musical composition for "VERTIGO, A
Place without Limits" has been
created by artists from diverse musical
backgrounds, who bring together
their knowledge to build a world of
sound that goes from the use of
contemporary musical elements to
compositions rooted in typical
flamenco rhythmic patterns.
Together, Juan Antonio Suarez CANO
(guitar), Alfredo Valero (accordion),
David Vázquez (voice) and Héctor
Gónzález (sound mixing) create music
without boundaries, that has its base
in flamenco tradition in order to grow
from its roots.
