Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us.
Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph
Solemnity of Christ the King
November
20, 2016
“The rulers sneered at Jesus and said, “He saved others,
let him save himself if he is the chosen one, the Christ of God.”
Even the soldiers jeered at him.
“If you are King of the Jews, save yourself.”
Now one of the criminals hanging there reviled Jesus, saying,
“Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us.”
The other, however, rebuking him, said in reply,
“Have you no fear of God, we have been condemned justly,
but this man has done nothing criminal.” Then he said,
“Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
He replied to him,“Amen, I say to you,
today you will be with me in Paradise.”

Reflection

This week we celebrate Christ the King. In the best sense of the word,
a King is some one who cares for the people under his care, and also
has authority over them. When have you felt Jesus’ care for you? How
do you allow Jesus to have authority over you?
 As
you think about Jesus on the cross, having compassion on the “good
thief,” what lesson do you draw from it for your own life?

The American Cancer Society offers
many free services to help people with
cancer and their families overcome obstacles in their personal cancer fight so they
can focus on getting well. Services include Road to Recovery, wigs for women,
Look Good Feel Better - for women - and
lodging. One challenge involves transportation to and from much-needed cancer treatments. Patients
may be to ill to drive themselves, may not have a car or someone to drive or may not be able to afford gas or other transportation. American Cancer Society seeks volunteer drivers who
are willing to use their own vehicles to drive patients undergoing cancer treatment as well as other appointments. Interested
volunteers can call (800) 227-2345 to find out more about this
vital program and how to become involved.
