CURRICULUM
Alliance Française de Chicago · Winter 2011
Curriculum:
What you will learn…
FRENCH LANGUAGE CLASSES WITH ROND-POINT
ROND-POINT is a highly interactive method
based on the European learning standards (Cadre
européen commun de référence — CECR). This
method (which is used in the Alliance Française
de New-York and the U.N. French department)
offers you new concepts, new ways of learning
and, of course, new opportunities for immersion
in French and the Francophone world. Students
are considered as “social actors who will
accomplish tasks in a real context of life and
authentic situations of communication.” ACTION
is the key word of this innovative approach, which
not only focuses on learning French but more
importantly, on doing things in French!
This method covers all levels (beginner,
intermediate and advanced): Rond-Point 1 covers
the basic levels A1 (levels 1, 2, 3, 4) and A2 (levels
5, 6, 7), Rond-Point 2 the intermediate levels
B1 (from levels 8 to 14) and Rond-Point 3 the
advanced levels B2 (from levels 15 to 23). Each
method covers seven levels and comes with a
student textbook (CD included) and a workbook.
This material is available for purchase in our office.
In addition, students are evaluated throughout
the session upon their attendance, participation
in class, class presentation, role play, composition
and a final evaluation to rate their communication
skills: oral and written expression, comprehension,
and use of lexical and stylistic structures. Students
receive a personal and accurate evaluation
from their instructor. This way, each student
knows the progress he/she has made
and exactly which course to take next.
The length of each class is 1h45 + 5 mns Q&A for
the once-a-week and twice-a-week courses and
2h30 for the 3 times a week courses.

The objective of this course is to make a comparative analysis of the literary work with its cinematographic
adaptation. This session, we will analyze and compare the novel by Emmanuel Carrère “L’adversaire” (published in
2000) with its remarkable film adaptation by director Nicole Garcia (released in 2002). This incredible story is inspired
by the real story life of Jean-Claude Romand. For almost 20 years, he has kept up the deception that he is a brilliant
physician with a senior position in the World Health Organization. No one — not his closest friends, his wife, even his
parents — knows the truth, that he didn’t even graduate from medical school. Then, one day, those around him begin
to suspect something is wrong. His secret is suddenly about to be uncovered, which he cannot allow to happen…
A marvelous book and a very powerful movie (which was nominated for a Palme d’Or at the 2002 Cannes
Festival), starring Daniel Auteuil (nominated Best Actor at the 2003 César Awards), François Cluzet (Best supporting
Actor) and Emmanuelle Devos (Best supporting actress)!
