February 28, 2016 3rd Sunday of Lent 1883-2016 . . . . . . O God, living and true, look . . upon your people, whose hearts . . . are dry and stony, and who are . . . parched with thirst. Unseal . . the living water of your Spirit; .. . let it become within us an ever- .. . . flowing spring, leaping up to . . . eternal life. Thus may we . . worship you in spirit and truth . . . through Christ, our deliverance . . and hope, who lives and reigns .. . . with you in the unity of the . . . Holy Spirit, holy and mighty . . God forever and ever. Amen. . A Prayer for Lent Pastor: Reverend G. Scott Shaffer Parochial Vicars: Reverend Carlos Aguirre Reverend Jerome Guld Deacon Romeo D. Aquino Deacon Francis J. Though he had been set aside since infancy for a special purpose, the Moses we meet in the reading from Exodus today seemed a little lost. He was a fugitive and a “resident alien” in a foreign land and needed a job. All that of course was about to change—he would find his mission and return to his people—but though he knew he was in the presence of God, he still had some reluctance—not the last Israelite prophet to feel that way. If even a great figure like Moses could be out of place and struggle to find out what God was calling him to, it can happen to anyone. When you feel adrift or without purpose, how do you find direction? WHERE WE LIVE, SERVE, & WALK TOGETHER IN FAITH. ST. JOSEPH’S PAGE TWO . . . . . . . FROM THE PASTOR . . . . . . . . My Dear Brothers and Sisters, . . . Thank you so much to all those who responded to my invitation, . . and for sending me your prayer intentions for my pilgrimage to . . the Holy Land. I promise I will pray for them at all the sites we . . visit. Please pray for a safe and spiritually rewarding trip. I wish . . I could tell you all, I will be posting pics to FB and doing a . Twitter feed, BUT I am basically clueless to all that. Soo, I’ll . . just tell you all about it once I get back. I am very happy that . . Msgr. Joe Ciampaglio will be here to offer 2 masses next Sunday . . while I am away. Make sure to say hello and give him a warm . St. Joseph’s welcome. . . . . I hope your Lent is going well. I don’t know about you, but it is . always a challenge for me. For some reason, Lent begins and I get .. distracted and less focused on those things I want to do. Let’s pray . for one another – not just me and you – but for all of us who jour- .. . ney through Lent to Easter. We are in this thing/life together and . . we’re best when we help one another. . . . We are excited to have Bishop O’Connell here twice in March. On . th Friday, the 18 Bishop will confer the sacrament of Confirmation to .. . our young people at 2 celebrations. And then, the next day-all day . (on our parish feast day), Bishop will lead us in our Diocesan Jubilee .. . Year of Mercy celebration. [See page 6 for more information.] We . are so grateful for Bishop David’s presence at our parish. . . . Lent is a time for conversion, forgiveness and healing. God longs .. . for us to be close to Him during this Holy time and what better . way to do that then to go to Confession and receive God's healing . . grace and mercy? Let us repent our sins as we prepare our hearts . for the Resurrection of Christ on Easter. Join us for the Sacrament .. . of Peace and Reconciliation on Tuesday evening of Holy Week, . . March 22 at 7pm . . . Peace to you all, and May God bless you. . . . . Fr. Scott . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Visit our website at www.stjosephtomsriver.org . for more information. .
