“T
his is my chosen Son. Listen to him.” On the Mount of Transfiguration, the Father clearly spoke to the Apostles, identifying
Jesus as His beloved Son. His command to them that day, as it is for us now, is that we LISTEN to him.
How are we doing at listening to Jesus? Are we lending our ear, the depths of our ability to perceive, on the Lord who so greatly
desires to communicate with us? Depending upon our answer, it will dramatically affect the way we follow him in discipleship. Our
auditory perception of his proclaimed words and the subsequent interpretation of their meaning, directly impacts the way we will
choose to live our life of faith in response to the command of the Father. He asks us to listen to Jesus, a request which implies hearing,
comprehending, and heeding the message.
Many of us are selective in our hearing. We choose that to which we want to listen. We filter that which we will allow to enter into
our ears and minds. We opt for and select what we want to hear and know. Everything else, even if it is good and helpful to us, we often
hold at bay. Those who employ selective hearing ordinarily have their minds made up, even when it comes to Christ and the demands
of his teachings. If we find ourselves selectively listening, we will likely be missing out on much of the message of conversion that Jesus
words wish to address in our lives. I wonder how our lives might be different if we actually listened to Jesus and his words intentionally,
rather than selectively? Might we grow, mature, or even deepen our walk of discipleship? Could it be that, through conversion, we
might become something new? Imagine that! Maybe its time to listen intentionally and holistically. Great benefits await.
Our Scripture readings this weekend, even the Psalm, assures us that God walks with us and desires to answer us. But, we are to
wait on the Lord. Could that mean LISTEN, HEAR, GRASP and UNDERSTAND? At the Father’s voice on the Mount of Transfiguration,
the Gospel says that the Apostles fell silent, a necessary condition, if we are to listen and hear the voice (and holy will) of the Lord.
Intentional listening to Christ, the process of inculcating his teachings in our lives, has great value for our Lenten journey.
Each day, each Sunday, of this holy season affords us a chance to have hearts, minds, and lives made new. It begins with deliberate,
intentional, listening. It requires our concentration, our comprehension, and our commitment. Christ’s word, which is always
efficacious, will have a powerful affect on our lives, giving them direction, healing, and hope. In a world which so often provides lifeless
messages, and mere band aids to address the deepest longing of the human heart, Christ’s word will never disappoint and will always
satisfy. In fact, when we savor their meaning, we will never be able to get enough. Like a deer that longs for running streams, so our
hearts will long for the Lord and his words. They enrich our lives to incalculable measure. But, it begins with intentional listening.
This weekend we are invited to ascend the mountain of Transfiguration with ears wide open and hearts ready to receive. The
Father’s will, revealed to the Apostles, is meant to find a ready welcome in our lives too, as we fall silent before the mystery, and
intentionally listen to the words of Christ. Our hearing, comprehending and heeding the message will surely bring great benefits to
all who welcome his word.
“E
ste es mi Hijo elegido. Escúchalo a él."
¿Me pregunto cómo nuestras vidas

During the penitential season of Lent, Catholics
around the world embrace gestures of spiritual
solidarity, which speak of penance, sacrifice, and a
greater alignment of life toward godly virtue. Among
these is the age old practice of abstinence from meat
products during all Fridays of the Lenten season.
Also to note is that Ash Wednesday and Good
Friday are universal days of fasting for all between the
ages of 18 and 59. Fasting is the simplification
(or diminishment) of food intake, as a way to lift our
minds to the abundance of gifts that we always
receive from God, and to grow in solidarity with the
poor.
The LORD is my light and my salvation;
whom should I fear?
¿a quién temeré?
— Salmo 27 (26):1
— Psalm 27:1
T
oday’s showing forth of God’s glory is filled with a
light that astonishes and reveals. Jesus transfigured
on Mount Tabor energizes even the sleepy apostles, who
see but cannot get hold of it. They can be forgiven for not
apprehending the full meaning of this extraordinary vision
of a transfigured Jesus with Elijah and Moses. The whole of
the Law and prophets is summed up here on this
mountain.
The transfiguration on Mount Tabor is handed over to
us this Sunday. As Paul reminds us, it is we who are to be
transformed. The light and life of the Resurrection are set
forth here so we do not lose heart and fall entirely asleep.
This Sunday looks to Easter. It looks to transformation. It
asks us to lift up our heads and acknowledge the risen Lord
as our light and our salvation.

ABCD - DONORS WELCOME
Thank you to all who have lovingly pledged to this year’s
Archbishop’s Charites and Development Drive. We are well
underway to reaching our parish goal. We now invite all
those who have not yet made a pledge to do so in support of
this very worthy cause. If you’ve made a pledge in the past,
perhaps you have received a pledge envelope, which you can
now send in with your pledge directly to the Archdiocese.
Alternatively, there are also pledge envelopes still at the
doors of church, or at the parish office for your convenience.
Together we are strong in the Lord.
L
desconocidos. Nunca imagine que algún día yo también
estuviera como predicador de misiones. Me gustaría darles

After examining the idea of jubilee and the Year of Mercy, in particular as it relates to Pope Francis,
come study the idea of mercy itself in the second installment of Catholic Casseroles. How do mercy
and justice correlate? Are they opposed? Can one be too merciful? How did the ancient Israelites
understand the mercy of God? Come to the 2nd Catholic Casseroles beginning at 6:30 pm on
February 24th, and continuing on March 2nd & 9th; delve further into the theology of Mercy with
Father Tran. Come share fellowship and community by enjoying a meal (it's potluck so bring a
dish!) and listening to these Lenten reflections regarding Mercy. Graciously supervised by the Son
Flower Hospitality Ministry. Contact the Ministries Office for more information.
Each Friday during the season of Lent,
the liturgy of the Way of the Cross will be
celebrated communally, led by one of the
priests or deacons of the parish:
6:00pm in Spanish and 7:30pm in English.
Prayer books will be provided.
All are welcome.
24 HOURS FOR THE LORD - CONFESSIONS AVAILABLE
Throughout the Archdiocese of Miami, all parishes will have
confessions specially scheduled on Friday, March 4th and Saturday,
March 5th. Here at Little Flower, priests will be available to hear
confessions in Church on Friday, March 4th from 7:00pm to
9:00pm; and on Saturday, March 5th from 8:30am to 1:00pm.
All are welcome to partake in the fountain of mercy!
Our next quarterly Healing Mass, during which the Sacrament of the Anointing of the
Sick will be bestowed, is scheduled for Monday, March 7th at 7:00pm. All those who are
terminally ill, dealing with serious physical challenges to health and wellbeing, facing or
recovering from surgery, and burdened with the weight of years, are especially invited to
join the multiple priests who will be present, as we pray for the healing touch and mercy
of the Lord. All are welcome.
Join Father Tran on a spiritual “field trip” to two of Miami’s locations for Jubilee Year of Mercy
Holy Doors on Thursday, March 31st. Parishioners, retirees, Catholic friends, one and all, will
depart Little Flower by chartered bus at 9:15am for a delightful morning of reflection.
The morning excursion will include a 10:00am arrival at Gesu Church, downtown Miami, a walk
through the Holy Door, and a tour and blessing provided by Father Eduardo Alvarez, SJ; a visit
to Saint Mary’s Cathedral at 11:15am, a walk through the Holy Door, a tour provided by the
Rector of the Cathedral, Father Christopher Marino, who will also celebrate Mass with us; and a
buffet lunch in Calle Ocho as part of our return journey to Little Flower. The price for the bus
ticket, the spiritual program, and lunch is $49.95. Only 50 seats available. To get your name on
the list, please call our Director of Advancement, Jorge Perez, 305-446-9950.
As you may know, we are in the process of producing a 90th anniversary photo
directory (like a yearbook of parish life), which is to include family portraits of all
our parishioners who make up this prominent community of faith. Many of you
have already come to have your pictures taken. When the commemorative
directory is produced, you will receive a free color copy of that directory. We
encourage all parishioners to tap into this important initiative, and have your
portrait or that of your family included in this historical book. For more
information, please contact Jorge Perez in our Advancement Office, 305-446-9950.
For anyone still discerning the possibility of joining Father Tran on a summertime pilgrimage to
Lourdes and Lissieux, there will be an INFORMATION MEETING on Saturday morning, February
27th at 11:00am, at the Parish Office 2nd floor conference room. The meeting will include an
overview of the trip, as well as a discussion of logistical details of the pilgrimage. We are fast
approaching the deadline for immediate registration. Now is the time to make plans to sign up for
a great spiritual adventure. Join us for the information meeting, as well as for the trip of a lifetime,
August 5th thru 13th. For those who are already registered, there is no need to attend this meeting.
It will be a repeat of the previous information session.
On Easter Sunday morning, after the 9:00am and 10:30am Masses, we will again have the
annual Easter Egg hunt for little children. The event will take place across the street from the
church on the rectory house side lawn. Volunteer staff from the Youth group will be directing
and assisting people as they cross the street on a busy morning. All are welcome.
