Through Word and Eucharist, we seek the wisdom and guidance of the Holy Spirit, embracing the love of our Creator in each thought, word, and action. As humble servants of God, we remain faithful to the teachings of the Holy Roman Catholic Church, waiting in joyful hope for our Lord’s coming. Weekly Reflection Reflexión Semanal Seeking transformation Buscando la Transformación The readings and prayers of the First Sunday in Lent ask us to open our hearts to transformation. The Collect reminds us to see Lent as a time to grow in “understanding the riches hidden in Christ.” This is the goal of our forty day Lenten journey. The Preface tells us that “by abstaining forty long days from earthly food, Jesus consecrated through his fast the pattern of our Lenten observances.” Jesus has given us the examples of meditation, prayer, good works, and self denial as paths for growing closer to God. After leaving the desert, Jesus proclaimed, “This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe in the gospel.” Jesus asks for repentance which requires a change of heart that results in a change of action. We must examine our hearts honestly, be sorry for past choices, and make changes that remove us from circumstances and people who tempt us to be less than what God desires us to be. These changes are possible when we embrace the gospel. Jesus’ directive reminds us of the actions in the Old Testament reading. God had sent the flood in response to man’s evil actions through the years. He promised Noah a new life, a new beginning. Peter writes in his letter that Noah and his family were “saved through water. This prefigured baptism, which saves [us] now. It is not a removal of dirt from the body but an appeal to God for a clear conscience through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.” This is what we hope for in the next forty days«to come to a truer understanding of the Paschal Mystery and live lives that reflect this glorious mystery. -2- Parish Life Baptisms Happy Anniversary Please pray for the recently baptized as they begin their journey in the Body of Christ Eugene & Johanna Aviles 62 Years on February 28 Kaia Simone Herrera Victor & Barbara Phillips —————————————————— In Remembrance 60 Years on February 12 Please pray for those who have recently passed away and for their families ______________________________________ To list anniversary, please email [email protected] by 5pm the Friday of the week before you wish it published.
