SUNDAY CONTRIBUTIONS
CONTRIBUCIONES DOMINICALES
Fr. Luis is requesting that all parish families use one of the
following two methods for your contributions, not only to
receive your annual donation letter, but to help him with
the great responsibility of planning and budgeting the
administration of this your parish.
Envelope System: Our new envelope system consists of
booklets that are mailed to your home on a quarterly basis. These booklets include envelopes for your Sunday contribution and second collections for St. Vincent de Paul and
the Building Maintenance Fund.
Online Giving: We have launched a new and improved
website with Online Giving. With the new Online Giving
system you can safely donate electronically for different
funds including your weekly Sunday contribution at
www.littleflowerbasilica.org

Fridays of Lent
7:00 pm (After the Stations of the Cross)
Pope Francis writes in Misericordiae Vultus—the papal
bull that announced this Jubilee Year of Mercy— that
he desires that Christian people everywhere more
deeply reflect on the corporal and spiritual works of
mercy. The pope views this year as an opportunity to
“reawaken our conscience, too often grown dull in the
face of poverty.” He challenges us to “enter more
deeply into the heart of the Gospel where the poor
have a special experience of God’s mercy.”
Lent is a time to reflect more intentionally on Pope
Francis’ invitation. During these 40 days, we examine
our own lives in an ongoing effort to “be merciful, just
as [the] Father is merciful.” And CRS Rice Bowl is our
tool to do just this. Through CRS Rice Bowl, we encounter those living in conditions of poverty around the
world, and we have the opportunity to practice the
corporal and spiritual works of mercy through our
prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Joan Rosenhauer, Executive Vice President of CRS’ U.S. Make your Lenten
practice this year one of mercy.

Prayer of Pope Francis for the Jubilee
Lord Jesus Christ, you have taught us to be merciful
like the heavenly Father, and have told us that whoever sees you sees Him.
Show us your face and we will be saved.
Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from
being enslaved by money; the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in
created things; made Peter weep after his betrayal,
and assured Paradise to the repentant thief.
Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the
words that you spoke to the Samaritan woman: “If you
knew the gift of God!”
You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the
God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy: let the Church be your visible
face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified.
You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in
weakness in order that they may feel compassion for
those in ignorance and error:
let everyone who approaches them feel sought after,
loved, and forgiven by God.
Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with
its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a
year of grace from the Lord,
and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring
good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives
and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind.
We ask this of you, Lord Jesus, through the intercession
of Mary, Mother of Mercy; you who live and reign
with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever.
Amen.

Lent
The three traditional pillars of Lenten observance are
prayer, fasting and almsgiving. The Church asks us to
surrender ourselves to prayer and to the reading of
Scripture, to fasting and to giving alms. The fasting
that all do together on Fridays is but a sign of the daily Lenten discipline of individuals and households: fasting for certain periods of time, fasting from certain
foods, but also fasting from other things and activities.
Likewise, the giving of alms is some effort to share this
world equally– not only through the distribution of
money, but through the sharing of our time and talents.
