We are so excited to be showing you how you can have fun learning a language whilst also cooking and tasting some of our favourite, simple but scrummy recipes ! So, who are we? We are a British family, living and loving our Family Life in Spain. You can read more about us on our blog www.familylifeinspain.com We are always learning new Spanish words and we love sharing our discoveries with others. Oh, and we mustn’t forget, we find any excuse to have fun in the kitchen, especially at the weekends! A word from mum: My name is Lisa Sadleir. I am passionate about language learning and I love cooking in our cocina with my wonderful children. Speaking languages opens doors to new worlds, increases your opportunities of adventure and creates passion. It’s never too soon or too late to start learning a language! Please note … kitchen disasters are totally accepted :- Why do we have fun in our Cocina? - The instructions are easy to follow. - All the vocabulary is provided. - Each recipe is printed in English and Spanish. - Words are missing in each language. - To complete the recipe, you must look up the missing word. - The recipes are simple and scrummy! I’m Arthur! Let’s go into the kitchen to learn some new words and to have fun. Let’s go …! ¡Hola! Soy Nerea. Vamos a la cocina para aprender unas palabras nuevas y para divertirnos. ¡Vamos! … How to use this book Follow these steps for each recipe: 1. You will need a pencil, rubber and some colours. 2. An English / Spanish dictionary is useful but not essential. 3. Select a recipe. 4. Read the adjectives, verbs and expressions on the first page and review the vocabulary on the second page. Read them out loud and practice saying them. (Remember, you can also listen to Arthur & Nerea on the CD or online) 5. Wash your hands. 6. Put on your apron. 7. Read and prepare the ingredients for your chosen recipe*. 8. Complete the instructions for your chosen recipe.* *Arthur’s 1st Tip: You can count the number of letters for the missing words. (For example, _ _ _ has three letters.) *Arthur’s 2nd Tip: The missing word is “highlighted in red” on the opposite page. Let’s cook ... Como usar este libro Sigue estos pasos para cada receta: 1. Necesitarás un lápiz, una goma y unos colores. 2. Un diccionario español/inglés puede ser útil, pero no es esencial. 3. Elige una receta. 4. Lee los adjetivos, verbos y expresiones en la primera página y revisa el vobaculario en la segunda página. Lee en voz alta y practica. (Recuerda que también puedes escuchar a Arthur & Nerea en el CD o en internet) 5. Lávate las manos. 6. Ponte el delantal. 7. Lee y prepara los ingredientes para tu receta elegida* 8. Grate the _ _ _ _ of the lemon and/or orange/satsuma and add to the beef mixture. _ _ _ _ _ the apple (skin and flesh) and add to beef mix. Mix all the ingredients together,using a_ _ _ _ _ _ (The children love this part!) _ _ _ _ _ or your hands. Add the whole _ _ _ and mix together. Add spices and seasoning _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _. NOTE: If the mixture is too _ _ _ you can add some breadcrumbs. Divide the mixture and make into balls (small for children and bigger for the adults). Put the balls of meat to cool in the _ _ _ _ _ _ , just before cooking flatten them into burger shapes. Fry in a small amount of _ _ _ until cooked through. Best cooked on the _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ in the open air! Hamburguesa con fruta 500 g de carne picada 1 cebolla pequeña picada finamente y frita 1 diente de ajo picado y frito (opcional) 1 huevo 1 limón (opcional) 1 manzana 1 naranja o 1 mandarina (opcional) Una ramita de cilantro o perejil (opcional) Sal y pimienta Utensilios: un tazón grande, un cuchillo, un rallador, una sartén, una cuchara de madera, un plato grande En un tazón grande, añade la carne picada, la cebolla y el ajo y mézclalos bien. Ralla la cáscara del limón y/o naranja/satsuma y añade a la carne picada. Ralla la manzana (sin pelarla) y añade a la mezcla de carne. Mezcla todos los ingredientes con una cuchara de madera o con las manos (¡a los niños les encanta esta parte!) Añade el huevo entero y mézclalo bien. Añade las especias y los condimentos a tu gusto. NOTA: Si la mezcla está demasiado húmeda, se puede añadir un poco de pan rallado. Divide la masa en trozos y crea bolas (pequeñas para los niños y más grandes para los adultos). Mete las bolas en la nevera para enfriarlas, y justo antes de cocinar aplástalas para crear la forma de hamburguesa. Freír en un poco de aceite hasta que estén bien cocinadas. ¡Se recomienda hacerlas en la barbacoa al aire libre! ! When it starts to boil, remove from heat and let stand for a few minutes. Meanwhile, separate the egg yolks. Whisk together the egg yolks, sugar and cornflour, avoiding any lumps. Remove the cinnamon and citrus zest/peel from the milk and return to the heat. Pass through the sieve. When it boils again, reduce the heat to minimum, and slowly pour in the egg yolk mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon, always in the same direction, until the liquid begins to thicken. Once again, pass the custard through the sieve and divide into small serving bowls. Allow to cool in the fridge.
