The Gainesville ISD will ask voters to decide whether the district can
swap thirteen cents from the Debt Service tax rate to the Maintenance
and Operations tax rate. Passing the “Penny Swap” will have ZERO
impact on the overall tax rate.
The “Penny Swap” would allow GISD to access the so-called “Golden
and Copper Pennies.” These pennies have a greater state value for the
District. If property values remained steady, the Penny Swap would
yield an estimated additional $637,376.00 of state funding.
The GISD would then be able to use these funds for teacher salary
increases to become more competitive in the teacher market, hire more
qualified personnel, and make our current staff even more retainable.
