We enter the holy city with our palms. We sit at the table for the Passover meal. Puzzled as Jesus humbly washes feet, we receive our mandate to serve others. We leave for the Garden of Olives and are asked to pray, if only for an hour. Jesus is taken, arrested like a common criminal, unjustly tried and condemned. Savagely led through the streets, He is hoisted upon a cross and left to die. With Mary and John we remain faithful at the foot of the cross. Good Friday sadness will lead to Easter joy. The events of Holy Week continue today. Many are walking the Via Dolorsa as refugees, asylees, the terminally ill, homeless and unemployed. The passion continues to be played out where others, like Christ, seek our compassion and support. The Lord does not abandon them, as the psalm states, when we respond to their need. ... ‘Dios mío, Dios mío, ¿por qué me has abandonado?’ ... NEWS AND EVENTS OF THE WEEK Food For Thought ‘THREE THINGS MATTER’ In the end only three things matter: How much you loved, How gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you. Paul Turner Hosanna! When the crowds gathered in Jerusalem on Palm Sunday to greet Jesus upon his entry, they shouted out this word. They weren't merely communicating how wonderful they thought Jesus was. They were also telling him how needy they were. They needed a savior. We all do. Sometimes the savior is the guy who can repair the plumbing and install new lights. But we also need someone who can repair whats broken inide us. Over the years, we have fixed some of our faults, but we have let others remain broken. We carry sin and shame, sadness and misbehavior, faults and flaws. So we cry out God, who can offer us forgiveness and a new start. The people who shouted “Hosanna” turned against Jesus a few days later. He surely remembered the real meaning of that word as he hung upon the cross. He did not abandon them. He saved them. We praise him. We need him. He is our Savior. When the great crowd that had come to a feast heart that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, they took palm branches, went out to meet him, and cried out: Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes In the name of the Lord, [even] the King of Israel.
