Dear Parents,
I warmly welcome you to St George’s School, Madrid.
I hope this brochure helps you to understand why our
teaching and learning environment is so special and
why we have quickly established a strong reputation
for our academic achievements, creativity and
performance work and the social and emotional
developments of each and every child in our school.
Our environment and ethos is built on the foundations
of five core values: responsibility, respect, kindness,
fairness and personal best. These values are instilled
into the children right from the time that they enter
our school. We want the children to understand that
life is not always about rules but about what they know
is right or wrong in this interdependent world. Our
aim is that every child leaves our school ready for this
world, with high academic achievements where they
have fulfilled their potential; as young people who have
a high emotional intelligence, excellent communication
skills and are true problem solvers who can think.
Happiness in children is vital if they are to achieve their
best. We put all our efforts and passion into the children
to ensure they are happy, contented and secure at the
school. We run many activities throughout the year to
develop and encourage self esteem and confidence.
These events can also often give children a platform
for skills and strengths that often are not evident in
the classroom, such as, talent shows, speech
competitions, art compilations, music activities, sports
competitions. The primary children all take part in at
least two class assemblies each year to perform to the
parents and all children are involved in at least one
other major performance.
Our children and staff feel very proud of the school
and we believe that we offer the best and most personal
education and care you can give to children. The school
is treated like one big family, where we all have our
different roles, we all respect each other and we all
want the best for each other. As a staff team we are
focused on continuously building a school of excellence
where children are motivated and challenged, where
learning is exciting and fun and where all children are
loved and nurtured to be the very best they can be.

Estimados padres,
Quiero daros una cálida bienvenida a St. George’s
School Madrid. Espero que este dosier os ayude a
entender por qué nuestro entorno de enseñanza y
aprendizaje es tan especial y cómo hemos conseguido
en tan poco tiempo una fuerte reputación tanto
académicamente, como en creatividad y producción
teatral, así como en el desarrollo social y emocional
de cada uno de los niños de nuestro colegio.
El ambiente y la ética del colegio, están basados
principalmente en cinco valores; responsabilidad,
respeto, bondad, justicia y en dar lo mejor de uno
mismo. A los niños se les inculcan estos valores desde
el primer momento que entran en nuestro colegio.
Queremos que los niños entiendan que la vida no se
basa solo en normas, sino en lo que ellos creen que
está bien o mal en el mundo en que vivimos. Nuestro
objetivo es que cada niño salga del colegio preparado
para este mundo, con un alto nivel académico donde
hayan desarrollado todo su potencial y se conviertan
en jóvenes con una gran inteligencia emocional,
excelentes dotes de comunicación y capaces de pensar
y resolver problemas por sí mismos.
La felicidad de los niños es vital si pretendemos que
den lo mejor de ellos mismos. Ponemos toda nuestra
pasión y esfuerzo para asegurarnos de que los niños
estén contentos, felices y se sientan seguros en el
colegio. Durante el año organizamos diferentes
actividades para desarrollar y aumentar la confianza
y la autoestima. Estos eventos les sirven a los niños
como plataforma para mostrar los talentos y puntos
fuertes que tal vez no serían tan obvios en la clase,
como el concurso de talentos, la competición de
discursos, los concursos de pintura, las actividades
musicales y las competiciones deportivas. Los niños
de primaria, realizan por lo menos dos veces al año
una asamblea. En ella actúan frente a sus padres y los
alumnos del colegio y por lo menos una vez al año,
todos los niños están involucrados en una de las
grandes producciones del colegio frente a los padres.
Los alumnos y todo el personal están muy orgullosos
del colegio. Estamos convencidos de que ofrecemos
los mejores cuidados y la mejor y más personalizada
educación que se le pueda dar a un niño. Consideramos
el colegio como una gran familia, donde cada uno tiene
unos roles determinados, todos nos respetamos
mutuamente y queremos lo mejor para todos. Como
equipo de trabajo, estamos centrados en construir
constantemente un colegio en la excelencia, donde
cada niño es motivado y retado, donde aprender es
excitante y divertido y donde todos los niños son

St. George’s British Schools aim to educate children

Objetivos para nuestros niños...
El objetivo prioritario de St. George’s es educar a los
niños para que se conviertan en jóvenes adultos seguros
de sí mismos y con la formación adecuada para
contribuir de forma significativa al mundo moderno.
Obtendrán una visión comprensiva y una empatía hacia
las distintas culturas que nos rodean y desarrollarán
el gusto por el aprendizaje.

An exciting learning journey
St. George’s British Schools are co-educational,
Foundation Stage, Primary and Secondary schools for
children from 3 to 18 years of age. St. George’s British
Schools are fully authorised by the regional government
and members of the prestigious National Association
of British Schools in Spain.
St. George’s has already gained a reputation for high
educational standards. Pupils are well-motivated and
happy. Class sizes are kept to a reasonable level
throughout the school and there is strong support for
individuals, either in specific subjects or for learning
languages.
We want pupils at our schools to learn effectively,
through thinking, feeling and doing. We want them to
learn how to analyse, solve problems, think creatively
and use their imaginations. We also want them to have
a sentimental education, learning to explore and
understand their own feelings and those of others. In
these ways the pupils will be prepared fully for the
demands and complexities of modern life.
Learning should be exciting and motivational. At St.
George’s we strive to make the children’s learning
journey a privilege and a pleasure.
The schools are well resourced and there is good IT
support in all the classrooms.
Aprender, un viaje excitante
St. George’s Schools son colegios de Infantil, Primaria
y de Secundaria, para alumnos de 3 a 18 años. Están
plenamente autorizados por el Gobierno Autónomo y
son miembros de la prestigiosa Asociación Nacional
de Colegios Británicos en España (NABSS).
St. George’s ha alcanzado ya una reputación importante
como colegio de alto nivel académico. Nuestros
alumnos son felices y están muy motivados. Hemos
conservado un ratio razonable por clase en todo el
colegio y llevamos a cabo un apoyo individualizado
tanto en las asignaturas específicas como en la
adquisición de las lenguas. Los colegios disponen de
excelentes recursos educativos y de un buen apoyo
informático en las aulas.
Queremos que los alumnos de nuestros colegios
aprendan de forma eficaz, a través del razonamiento,
a través de los sentidos y de la práctica. Nuestro
objetivo es que aprendan a analizar, a resolver
problemas, a pensar de forma creativa y a utilizar su

Early years foundation stage
The New Foundation Stage Curriculum is divided into
seven areas and is taught at St. George’s through a
mixture of carefully planned provision and activities using
a topic-based approach focusing both inside and
outdoors. The curriculum focuses on the importance of
play and the social and emotional development of the
children.
The three prime areas are:
• Personal, Social and Emotional Development
• Communication and Language
• Physical Development
In Foundation, these se ven areas of learning and
development are divided into three ‘prime’ areas and
four ‘specific’ areas.
The four specific areas are:
• Literacy
• Mathematics
• Understanding the World
• Expressive Art and Design
Prime areas are fundamental to building a child’s
capacity to learn and thrive. They support development
in all other areas.
Specific areas include essential skills and knowledge
for children to participate successfully in society.
Infantil
El nuevo Currículum de Foundation Stage está dividido
en siete áreas y en St. George’s lo ponemos en práctica
a través de actividades cuidadosamente planificadas y
enfocando la temática con actividades dentro y fuera
de las aulas. El plan de estudios se centra en la importancia
del juego y el desarrollo social y emocional de los niños.
En Foundation Stage, estas siete áreas de aprendizaje
y desarrollo están divididas en tres "prime" áreas y
cuatro "specific" áreas.
Las áreas llamadas “Prime” son fundamentales para
desarrollar la capacidad del niño para aprender y
desarrollarse. Son básicas para el desarrollo de todas
las demás áreas.
Las tres áreas principales son:
• Desarrollo personal, social y emocional
• Comunicación y lenguaje
• Desarrollo físico
Las áreas específicas comprenden las habilidades y
conocimientos esenciales para que los niños puedan

Primary
The Primary department follows the British National
Curriculum and all teachers are fully qualified and
trained in the United Kingdom and have relevant
experience. The curriculum is taught in English and
the obligatory Spanish Studies are taught in the Spanish
language each day. In addition, we follow all key
principles of British education, while taking into account
the richness of the environment and culture in Spain.
We believe that educating the child involves helping
them to become independent learners who will learn
in many contexts and not just at school. The partnership
between home and school is fundamental to this belief.
Children learn best when they are active in their learning
and where the activities suit their individual needs.
Also, the children must want to learn and to do their
best. We encourage them in many ways, including a
system of rewards in the form of certificates, points
and prizes.
In the British system, we differentiate the curriculum
to cater for the different academic levels within any
class. Specialist teachers and assistants give children
support where they may have difficulty with some
aspects of the curriculum. This may take place in the
class or a group may be withdrawn to another room.
Children who are exceeding their expected level are
given extension work in class and sometimes groups
are taken out of class to meet their needs for work
at a higher level.
Primaria
El departamento de Primaria sigue el currículum
Nacional Británico y sus profesores poseen la titulación
y experiencia en el Reino Unido. El currículum se
imparte en inglés y las asignaturas obligatorias de
español se imparten diariamente en castellano.
Seguimos todos los principios fundamentales de la
educación británica, aprovechando la riqueza del
entorno y la cultura española.
Creemos que educar a los niños conlleva el ayudarles
a convertirse en aprendices independientes, pero en
todos los contextos, no solo en el colegio. La relación
entre casa y colegio es fundamental para poder
conseguirlo.
Los niños cuando mejor aprende es cuando están
involucrados en el proceso de aprendizaje y cuando
la actividad está adecuada a su nivel personal. Por
otro lado, los niños deben querer aprender y dar lo
mejor de cada uno. Motivamos a los niños de diferentes
formas, a través de certificados, puntos o premios por
los méritos conseguidos.
En el sistema británico, diferenciamos el currículum
para cubrir los diferentes niveles que hay dentro de
una misma clase. Profesores y asistentes dan apoyo
a los niños cuando encuentran alguna dificultad en el
currículum. Este apoyo puede ser durante las clases
o en grupo y trabajar con ellos en otro aula. A los niños
que superan el nivel esperado se les da trabajo extra
y en ocasiones se trabaja con ellos en otro aula para
cubrir sus necesidades y ofrecerles un mayor reto.
Secondary
In Key Stage 3, pupils follow the National Curriculum as
well as studying Spanish language and humanities. They
also choose to study another foreign language, either
French or German, in Year 7. In Key Stage 4, we prepare
them for the IGCSE examinations in a wide range of subjects
which includes options such as Business Studies, Art and
Design, Computer Studies, Media Studies, Drama, Physical
Education, History and Geography. In addition, there is a
personal, health and social education programme
throughout the secondary school.
In the Sixth Form, we help our students to assume
responsibility for their own learning, to take a disciplined
approach to their work, and to make a contribution to
the community. We provide a clear framework within
which they can develop both as students and individuals.
Throughout the secondary school and the Sixth Form,
there are clear codes of conduct, based on respect for
fellow pupils, staff, property and the environment. Above
all, we aim to foster tolerance, respect and understanding.
During the final two years, pupils follow Advanced level
courses in their chosen subjects. Pupils are advised
personally by the teachers and personal tutors in order to
provide the most appropriate curriculum for them.
Secundaria
En Key Stage 3 (de 11 a 14 años) los alumnos siguen el
Currículum Nacional Británico a la vez que realizan sus
estudios de Lengua y Cultura española. Pueden elegir el
estudio de una lengua extranjera, francés o alemán, a
partir de Year 7 (6º Primaria). En Key Stage 4 (de 14 a 16
años), se prepara a los alumnos para los exámenes de
IGCSE (exámenes oficiales de grado en educación
secundaria), en una amplia gama de asignaturas en las
que se incluyen algunas optativas como económicas, arte
y diseño, educación física, informática, audiovisuales,
artes escénicas, historia y geografía. Además existe un
programa de educación personal, social y de salud durante
toda la secundaria.
Durante los dos últimos años, los alumnos siguen la
programación de los “Advanced Level Courses” en las
asignaturas que hayan elegido. Los alumnos son asesorados
personalmente por sus profesores y tutores para poder
confeccionar el currículo más apropiado para ellos.
Normalmente se les recomienda que estudien 5
asignaturas, incluyendo el español, teniendo en cuenta
sus aptitudes personales, su potencial, sus intereses y las
carreras que deseen realizar en un futuro próximo. Estos
estudios se complementan con estudios españoles
encaminados a prepararles para la Universidad española.
En Sixth Form, ayudamos a nuestros estudiantes a asumir
responsabilidades sobre su propio aprendizaje, a ser
disciplinados con su trabajo, y a realizar trabajos en la
comunidad. Creamos un marco donde el alumno se puede
desarrollar como estudiante así como persona.
Durante Secundaria y Sixth Form hay claros códigos de
conducta basados en el respeto por sus compañeros, por
los profesores, por la propiedad y por el medio ambiente.
Y por encima de todo, es nuestro deseo fomentar la
tolerancia, el respeto y la comprensión.
Personal Attention
Much of a school’s success lies in its ability to support
each individual pupil. At St. George’s we offer strong
support in a number of ways. The essential support is
provided by the class teacher or tutor. The tutors keep
a close eye on the pupil’s academic progress and deal
with any personal, social or academic problems. They
provide the main link between the home and school.
There is also a school psychologist who helps and advises
pupils and their families and carries out specific tests at
key stages in the pupil’s development.
reporting system makes use of a blend of full written
reports and progress grade sheets. We aim to provide
clear information about what pupils know, understand
and can do, and to define precise targets for improvement.
We also encourage frequent contact between parents
and teachers to resolve any concerns or problems. Within
the school we follow children’s progress carefully and
deal with issues rapidly and effectively.
During the year we organise parent talks to explain
curricular matters or to help prepare pupils for key
decisions, for example, option choices or university entry.
The school needs to maintain close relationships with
parents if pupils are to make good progress. We provide
regular reports and arrange parental interviews throughout
the year. Both in the Primary and Secondary schools the

Gran parte del éxito en un colegio está relacionado con
el apoyo que se le ofrezca a cada alumno. St. George’s
garantiza el apoyo a sus alumnos a través de distintos
medios. El apoyo esencial lo lleva a cabo el profesor o el

académico del alumno y tratan cualquier problema tanto
académico como social o personal del alumno. Ellos son

Existe también un psicólogo en plantilla que ayuda y
aconseja tanto a los alumnos como a sus familias y que
lleva a cabo pruebas pedagógicas específicas en etapas
clave del desarrollo del alumno.
El colegio necesita mantener una relación estrecha con
los padres si queremos que los alumnos progresen
adecuadamente. Mantenemos un sistema de informes
individuales regulares y tutorías, así como reuniones
específicas con padres a lo largo de todo el año. Tanto
en Primaria como en Secundaria el sistema de informes
de notas, combina informes escritos y boletines de notas
que manifiestan el progreso del alumno. Nos preocupa
dar la mayor información posible acerca de lo que saben
los alumnos, de lo que comprenden y de lo que son
capaces de hacer y establecemos con ellos objetivos
concretos que les ayuden a mejorar. Fomentamos el
contacto frecuente entre los padres y los profesores para
poder resolver cualquier inquietud o problema. Dentro
del colegio hacemos un seguimiento del progreso del
alumno y atajamos cualquier asunto rápido y eficazmente.
A lo largo del curso organizamos charlas para padres
destinadas a explicar los asuntos curriculares o a ayudar
a orientar a los alumnos en decisiones difíciles, como por
ejemplo la elección de asignaturas optativas o su decisión
de matricularse en una u otra universidad.
Examinations and Qualifications
The students at St. George’s study for the IGCSE and
Advanced Level examinations, which are recognised
throughout the world. The schools are authorised
examination centres for these courses.
As St. George’s are fully authorised British schools,
pupils can validate their studies in Spain. The process
is automatic for most year groups but, in Years 11, 12
and 13, the validation depends on achieving a number
of pass grades at IGCSE and A Level.
The academic standard of our schools is high. In all
our schools, there is a serious approach to study and
a determination to get the best out of each student.
We create the right conditions for effective learning
by insisting that all children follow clear codes of
conduct, based on respect for fellow pupils, staff,
property and the environment. Above all, we aim to
foster tolerance, respect and understanding.
Exámenes y titulaciones
Los alumnos de St. George’s se preparan para los
exámenes de IGCSE y Advanced Level, reconocidos
en todo el mundo. Nuestros colegios son Centros
Autorizados para llevar a cabo estos exámenes.
Puesto que St. George’s son centros Británicos
plenamente autorizados, los alumnos pueden
homologar y convalidar sus estudios en España. El
procedimiento es automático en todos los cursos
excepto en Y11, Y12 y Y13, donde la convalidación
depende de un número concreto de exámenes de
IGCSE y “A” Level aprobados.
El nivel académico en los colegios es alto. Existe un
compromiso serio para potenciar al máximo la
capacidad académica de cada uno. En todos ellos el
enfoque del estudio es serio y actuamos con
determinación para sacar lo mejor de cada alumno.

A school with heart
At St. George’s we believe that fully and lovingly educating
a child is not only about academic studies but also in
providing many other positive learning experiences that
will help shape them into fully rounded and confident
young people.
At each of our schools we offer many different opportunities
outside of normal academic studies, to try and develop
the creative and emotional aspects of a child’s development.
For example, the performing arts develops self esteem,
confidence, and the skill of working with others. It has also
been proven to have a positive impact on academic
studies. At each of our schools the children are given
opportunities to take part in class assemblies, end of term
shows, school choirs and drama groups. In Primary and
Secondary, we offer over night school trips.
These experiences are so important to a child’s social
and emotional development. We also offer programs or
experiences in the U.K. or France during the summer.
Healthy competition is also very beneficial for the children,
teaching them how to celebrate their talents and then in
turn, the talents of other children. So we hold not only
sports competitions, but other events such as speech
competitions or talent shows. We love seeing the pride
on the children’s faces when they are given the chance
to achieve in an area that they are good at. We believe
it is our responsibility to find the gifts and talents in each
and every child and then give them the opportunities to
shine in these areas.
Un colegio con corazón
En St. George’s creemos que para que la educación de
un niño sea plena y completa, no debe centrarse
exclusivamente en la parte académica sino que además,
debe proveer al niño de otra serie de experiencias positivas
que le ayudarán a modelarse y convertirse en unos jóvenes
seguros de sí mismos y completos en todas sus facetas.
En nuestros colegios, ofrecemos diferentes oportunidades
fuera de los estudios obligatorios, para tratar de desarrollar
los aspectos creativos y emocionales del desarrollo del niño.
Por ejemplo, las artes escénicas pueden tener una parte
importante y relevante en la educación del alumno. Entre
otras muchas ventajas positivas, desarrolla la autoestima,
aumenta la confianza y la habilidad de trabajar en equipo.
También se ha demostrado que tienen un impacto positivo
en los estudios académicos. En cada uno de nuestros colegios
ofrecemos a los niños la oportunidad de participar, bien en
asambleas, funciones, coros escolares o grupos de teatro.
Estas experiencias son importantísimas para el desarrollo
del niño, tanto a nivel social como emocional. También
ofrecemos programas o experiencias durante el verano
en Francia o Reino Unido.
La competencia sana es también muy enriquecedora para
los niños, enseñándoles cómo celebrar sus logros y
también, los logros de los otros niños. Tenemos
competiciones no solo deportivas, sino también concursos
de oratoria o concursos de talentos. Nos encanta ver el
orgullo en las caras de los niños cuando se les da la
