A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear Holy Apostles Parish Family,
November is suddenly upon us and our world
starts looking toward the holiday seasons of
Thanksgiving and Christmas. This month is
always a month where we remember those who
have died. We had Mass and lit candles to
remember those who died this past year. We
tend to remember and grieve more intensely at
this time of year because these are the times
we gather as family and really feel our loss
more intensely.
This month we are also trying to ask the question, “How we can help those in need?” I feel
very strongly about this because our faith and
God’s word call us to look to help those in need
and realize it is not an option, but an obligation
to share the gifts God has given us. We will
work hard the weekend before Thanksgiving to
pack the food baskets with the Knights of Columbus to help all of McHenry together with the
four local Catholic parishes. The weekend of
November 20—22, we will also be working with
as many churches as possible to pack bags of
food to send mostly to Haiti, to keep more children from dying of starvation. It is a great way
to prepare for Thanksgiving by first helping
those who will not be able to feast as well as
many of us that day. Please allow yourself to
make these opportunities a priority.
Have a Blessed Week!
Fr. Paul
WE OFFER OUR PRAYERS FOR:

Looking Forward to the HALO Sale?
Knights of Columbus Council 1288 of McHenry will again

in our community. This will be the 9th year the Knights

the money that is donated a long way.
The food is packed in such a way that
each family receives everything they
need to prepare a proper holiday meal.
One hundred percent of the funds donated is used purchase food that benefits
needy families in our own McHenry area. Any amount you
can give, no matter how small, is greatly appreciated.
The distribution of Thanksgiving meals will be on Saturday, November 21. The Knights welcome everyone to
help sort and pack the meals. Please mail your donations to

Bilingual Thanksgiving Mass
The spirit of gratitude has a long history in our country from the explorers and pilgrims who came to America
500 years ago, to the presidents (Washington, Lincoln)
who designated a special holiday just for the purpose of
giving thanks to God! This Thanksgiving Day, Thursday,
November 26, we invite you to attend a bilingual Mass at
9 AM, when our community will come together for an
hour to give thanks for all the gifts that God has given us,
by celebrating the Eucharist as one Catholic community.
This is one of the most memorable and meaningful
events of our year! We also invite you to bring the bread
and wine for your Thanksgiving meal to be blessed during Mass, as well as non-perishable food items to donate
to the St. Vincent de Paul Society to distribute to our less
fortunate neighbors.
Join HA Christmas Traditions FB Group
The goal of our Christmas Traditions Group is to decorate
the church for Advent and Christmas. We would like to
add some Fontanini statues to the Nativity scene that Fr.
Diego created last year. We would like to add four pieces,
which can be viewed on our group page. If you are interested in donating any of these pieces to the Nativity
display, call Jen at 815-385-5673, x229. Join at facebook.com/groups/holyapostleschristmastraditions/.

SVDPS Helps Fill Income Gaps
Many of us are lucky enough to have paid time off or
'sick days' through our employers. For those who do
not enjoy this benefit, even
a few days off from work
can have a devastating
financial affect. A single
young woman recently
missed several days of work
due to a hand injury. The
resulting decrease in her
paycheck left her unable to meet her rent payment or
to buy groceries. Vincentians provided food, a pledge
toward part of her rent and a referral to the township
for additional rent assistance. Your prayerful support
and donations enabled this young lady to meet her
obligations and to continue to live with dignity in our
community. Whoever has a bountiful eye will be
blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor.
