Thanksgiving
Very soon Americans will celebrate
the Thanksgiving holi-days; a time
where so much is devoted to
sumptuous meals highlighted by
turkey and pumpkin pie, traveling to
and from the ancestral home, enjoying
family, feasting on leftovers, seeing a
Thanksgiving Day parade and
watching football. For many of us, Thanksgiving Day is so full of activity
that there is a tendency to forget what’s at the heart of Thanksgiving,
offering our thanks to God for the many gifts that have been bestowed
upon us. Although sometimes the reason for the holiday is forgotten in our
secular culture today, good stewards of their life and faith recognize that
Thanksgiving should be directed primarily in God’s direction. Because the
“busyness” of Thanksgiving Day can easily distract us from slowing down
to a pace more suitable to adequately expressing our gratitude to God,
perhaps this November we might allow Thanksgiving to permeate our
lives for more than just a day. How about the entire month? Expressing
gratitude is at the heart of good stewardship. So, let’s dedicate a little time
each day to giving thanks for our blessings. Spend a few minutes each to
remember all that God has given you and say “Thank you.” Express your
gratitude for the beauty of God’s autumn creation.
Take a minute each day to thank the people in your life
who matter to you. Tell them you’re thankful for them. Drop
someone a note, place a short phone call or even text them! Telling people
you’re thankful for them will enrich your life as well as theirs. Make a
point to attend at least one Mass outside the regular weekend Masses.
Going to Mass on Thanksgiving morning is an excellent way to enrich that
holiday. As a community of faith, we know that giving glory to God in
this way is an important aspect of our communal life of faith. May this
Thanksgiving be a time when we not only say “Thank You” to God,
family and neighbor, but a time when our hearts draw us much closer to
the Lord.
In today’s Gospel, Saint Ma hew offers a compelling vision of the end- me,
when the people of all the na ons are brought before the Lord to give an
account of their lives and ac ons. Interes ngly, the sheep, the righteous
ones, are rewarded for having acted with love and compassion without
having recognized the face of Christ in others. Good stewards recognize
those in need of their care as gi s from God. They know that they are the
instruments of Christ’s ac ve, loving presence in the world. How will we
treat others this week: our family members, neighbors, customers,
strangers? What accoun ng will we make to the Lord for their care?

Jesus did not come as a king that sought to served,
but to serve. He calls us to imitate him and to do
likewise with those who are the lowest. Unlike other
kings that would subject and oppress, Jesus
liberates and saves. Jesus makes us sharers in his
mission.
As the Church year comes to a close, we must be
mindful of this mission and the criteria that Christ
uses to judge the world at the end of time – what
have you done for the least among us? Did you
treat them as though you were king, or as though you were their
servant?
Pray for the Sick: We pray for all those
who are sick. May they feel the healing
power of our prayers.
Condolences:
We pray for all the faithful
departed. Eternal rest grant
unto them, O Lord, and let
perpetual light shine upon
them. May they rest in peace.

REFLECTION
Some mes it seems really difficult to
connect with God. Even though others
always tell us about Him and the how he is
always there, some mes I find if difficult to
truly find God in daily life when you cannot
physically see or hear Him. However, a er
reading this Gospel I am reminded that if I
need to see God I don’t need to look any
further than service to others. Since God is
reflected in each one of His sons and
daughters, any me I help someone else I
am helping God. When I look into the eyes
of someone in need, I see that person but
also I see God.

World Youth Day Group - Krakow Poland 2016
We would like to express our gratitude to all the donors and sponsors
that helped us with our first World Youth Day Fundraising Fiesta Dinner
last week: Thanks to Toledo’s Mexican Restaurant, Don Pepe’s Taqueria,
El Rodeo Mexican Restaurant, Ramos Furniture, Henry’s Rental,
Mariachi Aguila, and the Ballet Folklorico Alta California. Also, our
appreciation to the Spanish Confirmation 2 students who helped to
serve and clean.
We would like to strengthen our Catholic faith as a group by attending
this pilgrimage. Saint John Paul II has called us along with millions of
other youth to come together at World Youth Day to pray, to live and
share our faith daily. He said “You are the future of the world,
you are the hope of the Church, you are my hope.”
Would you help by financially sponsoring a youth to attend this great life
changing experience? With community support this would be a chance to
restore hope to our youth and build a future for our Catholic Church.
Please make you tax deductible donation by contacting us or visiting our
web page. Please click on the green DONATE button to make your
donation: on the description box type WYD POLAND
Thank you for your support and continued
prayers throughout our pilgrimage!

There is so much noise in the world! May we
learn to be silent in our hearts and before
God !
@Pontifex Nov 15th
A Christian brings peace to others. Not only
peace, but also love, kindness, faithfulness
and joy .
OUR FAITH SUSTAINS US!
“Faith – that one little word has many
marvelous meanings. When we talk about
the Faith of our Church, we generally
mean the officially doctrine and teachings
of the Catholic religion. At the same time,
however, faith is also a very personal
matter. Having faith means believing in
and connecting with God. There are many
benefits to keeping faith at the center of
our lives.” Excerpt from Take Out Family
Faith on the Go, October 2014, by Joseph
D. White, PhD.
HOW DOES FAITH SUSTAIN YOU
AND YOUR FAMILY?

As partners in building and shaping the
faith life of your children, we offer a
few simple steps in keeping your faith
growing and going!



Listen to and then talk about the
Gospel story for the week.

Eat together and celebrate the highs of
your day and pray for the challenges
that you came up against.

Pray daily for each
other reflecting on
the many blessings
in your lives.

CRISTO EN EL MUNDO
En el Evangelio de hoy, San Mateo
ofrece una persuasiva visión del final
de los tiempos, cuando la gente de
todas las naciones es llevada ante el
Señor para dar cuenta de sus vidas
y acciones.
familia, a nuestros vecinos, clientes y extraños? ¿Qué cuentas
rendiremos al Señor del cuidado de ellos?

gracias, una vez más, tendremos una misa, en Ingles, de vigilia de acción
de gracias. Esta misa en ingles se celebrará el miércoles, 26 de

TREASURES
FROM OUR
TRADITION
Coming to the end of the Church year,
we can wonder how we got "extreme
unction" out of "anointing of the sick."
"Extreme" comes from a Latin phrase, in
extremis, which in English refers to the
last struggle of a dying person. "Last
rites" is a phrase in common usage, and
refers to the fact that years ago everyone
waited until the last crisis of illness to
summon the priest. The goal of anointing
had always been healing and forgiveness,
but in time it began to be seen as a preparation for death. In a hard world, almost
anything from a hangnail to a sneeze
could be life-threatening, so perhaps the
change was inevitable. The emphasis on
the penitential aspects was heightened,
even to the odd practice of Rome in the
twelfth century, when the sick person
was sprinkled with ashes mixed with holy water and given a hair shirt as a sign
of penance.
The reformers thankfully overlooked
some of these oddities of history, and
today the sacrament of the sick is much
more generously applied to persons in a
wide range of situations. Still, it is a sacrament of reconciliation, and for that reason is not celebrated for an infant or toddler, although there is a rite for a visit to
a sick child not including anointing or
Communion.
