Saint Joseph Parish Pastor's Note - Second Sunday of Lent, Year I, Cycle B Last week, we heard Jesus come out of the wilderness after forty days proclaiming that the kingdom is at hand. He calls us to repent and believe in the gospel. We are called to make a choice right now how we will respond to the invitation to salvation and redemption - to choose life in the world that is terminal or life in Christ that is eternal. Today, we see Him transfigured before His disciples. The Transfiguration reveals Jesus as the embodiment of the commandments and the fulfillment of the of prophecies, as indicated by the appearance of Moses and Elijah. Jesus, in His life leading up to His passion and death, give testimony to what it means to obey God's commands and faith in the Father's will. Jesus manifests to His disciples the glory that is and to be in the kingdom as proclaimed by the prophets throughout the history of salvation. Such was the experience of the disciples that they wanted to remain in that moment. During this season of Lent, we need to experience the transfiguration for the purpose of remembering what is expected of us and what we are to expect as the ultimate goal of our Lenten practices and observances. Lent is an opportune time to practice obedience and trust in the will of God by making sacrifices of our own wants and needs. We persevere in these practices because we hope to share in the glory that comes in the end --- new, glorious, and eternal life. We also hope that after we make it through the Lenten season, we continue to live our lives that will also proclaim to others what we have seen, heard, and experienced. It may also be important to remember that this trust and obedience to the will of God is not a "seasonal" faith experience. Faith is a daily call and an every moment way of living - not when it is convenient to our schedule. • Be reminded that every Friday, we have Stations of the Cross, 6:15pm in Spanish and 7:00pm in English. There is also a soup dinner provided by our local Knights of Columbus Council. • We have confessions every Saturday from 2:30 - 3:30pm or by appointment. I hope that we can make the time to support our parish and the Knights of Columbus as they host the Saint Patrick's Day Dinner. The dinner is a celebration of the patron saint of the diocese. It is also an event that we have together as a parish to build community. The proceeds of the dinner will benefit directly our parish. The tickets for the dinner are available after every Mass these next few weekends. God Bless, Father Brian St. Patrick's Dinner at St. Joseph's Church This year we hope you all come and celebrate with us at our St. Patrick's Day Dinner. Stations of the Cross If you're ministry wants to lead one of the six nights to be in charge of The Stations of the Cross, 6:15pm in Spanish and 7:00pm in English.
