Pastor’s Corner
The biblical message in this weekend’s readings compares the leader of the
community with a shepherd. And being a shepherd is not easy. In the first
reading, the prophet Jeremiah addresses the bad shepherds; he corrects the
false leaders of his time who destroy the people because they have no love
for them. For this reason the prophet announces the coming of the Messiah,
the good shepherd. In the second reading, St. Paul describes in detail the
supreme example of Christ, who gathered together the scattered sheep.
Christ the good shepherd teaches us that the true leader must think first
about the people’s needs rather than on himself. Jesus does not demand of
us anything that He hasn’t done first. Jesus Christ not only was the good
shepherd, but continues to be the best leader through His gospel. His
presence in the midst of the Church and among us, continually calls us to
cooperate with Him in the work of salvation, in changing the world. He calls
us to the task of the good shepherd, to form only one flock.

En el mensaje bíblico que leemos este fin de semana, las lecturas comparan al
líder de la comunidad con un pastor de ovejas. Y no es fácil ser pastor. En la
primera lectura el profeta Jeremías interpela a los malos pastores; corrige a los
líderes falsos de su época que destruyen el pueblo porque no tienen amor. Por
tanto, el profeta anuncia la llegada del Mesías, el buen pastor. En la segunda
lectura san Pablo describe detalladamente el ejemplo supremo de Cristo que juntó
de nuevo las ovejas dispersas. Cristo el buen pastor nos enseña que el líder
verdadero ha de pensar primero en las necesidades del pueblo y no en sí mismo.
Jesús no exige de nosotros cosas que El mismo no ha realizado. Jesucristo no solo
fue el buen pastor sino que continúa siéndolo en nuestros días por medio de su
evangelio. Su presencia en medio de la Iglesia y entre nosotros, nos llama
continuamente a ser Sus colaboradores en la obra de la salvación, en la obra de
cambiar al mundo. Nos llama a trabajar en la obra del buen pastor, conformar un
solo rebaño.

The covenant of love

…God’s love, which brought forth the world, was not an impromptu decision.
No! It was a beautiful work. The love of God created the concrete conditions
for an irrevocable covenant, one that is strong and lasting.
The covenant of love between man and woman — a covenant for life — cannot
be improvised. It isn’t made up one day to the next. There is no marriage
express: one needs to work on love, one needs to walk. The covenant of love
between man and woman is something learned and refined. I venture to say it
is a covenant carefully crafted. To make two lives one is almost a miracle of
freedom and the heart entrusted to faith. Perhaps we should emphasize this
point more, because our “emotional coordinates” have gone a bit askew.
Those who claim to want everything right away, then back out of everything —
right away — at the first difficulty (or at the first opportunity). There is no
hope for the trust and fidelity entailed in the gift of self, if prevailing tendency is
to consume love like some kind of “supplement” for mental and physical wellbeing. This is not love!
La alianza del amor

…El amor de Dios, que dio origen al mundo, no fue una decisión improvisada. ¡No!
Fue un trabajo hermoso. El amor de Dios creó las condiciones concretas de una
alianza irrevocable, sólida, destinada a durar.
La alianza de amor entre el hombre y la mujer, alianza por la vida, no se improvisa,
no se hace de un día para el otro. No existe el matrimonio express: es necesario
trabajar en el amor, es necesario caminar. La alianza del amor del hombre y la mujer
se aprende y se afina. Me permito decir que se trata de una alianza artesanal. Hacer
de dos vida una vida sola, es incluso casi un milagro, un milagro de la libertad y del
corazón, confiado a la fe. Tal vez deberíamos comprometernos más en este punto,
porque nuestras «coordenadas sentimentales» están un poco confusas. Quien
pretende querer todo y enseguida, luego cede también en todo —y enseguida— ante
la primera dificultad (o ante la primera ocasión). No hay esperanza para la confianza
y la fidelidad del don de sí, si prevalece la costumbre de consumir el amor como una
especie de «complemento» del bienestar psico-físico. No es esto el amor.

Steubenville Youth Conference in Orlando this weekend, The conference will
empower our youth for discipleship and equip them for the work of the New
Evangelization, drawing them into a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ. Let
us keep them in our prayers.

as a good steward. This decision is an intentional act intended to thank God
for all of His blessings by returning to Him a portion of the time, the talent,
and the treasure He has given us.
Once a year, each Catholic household should plan how the stewardship of
time and talent will be a part of its lifestyle and how the stewardship of
treasure will be a part of its budget. This plan is then lived throughout the year
in a regular, consistent manner.

Guiados por la oración, cada uno de nosotros toma la decisión de vivir la vida
cristiana como un buen administrador. Esta decisión es un acto intencional de dar

the Bridgettines nuns and monks after the death of her
husband of twenty years. She is one of the patron saints of
Europe, along with St. Benedict, Sts. Cyril and Methodius, St.
Catherine of Siena and St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross
(Edith Stein).
Julio 23, Santa Brígida de Suecia, fue una mística y
fundadora de la Orden del Santísimo Salvador después de la
