Christmas Eve Masses—Saturday, December 24 Christmas Day

Christmas Eve Masses—Saturday, December 24 Christmas Day
December 18, 2011
Fourth Sunday in advent
Fourth Sunday of Advent
We continue the Liturgical Season of Advent, which is a time
of “spiritual preparation” by the faithful before Christmas.
We light the fourth (and last) Advent candle. The progression
of lighting all the candles on the Advent wreath shows our
increasing readiness to meet our Lord and welcome Him into
our hearts on Christmas Day.
As we enter the last week of Advent, all these efforts are meant to help purify
our hearts and prepare us for the celebration and great message of Christmas.

seven days a week. We are currently in the need for somebody on Mondays from

Stewardship of Treasure
How shall I repay the Lord for his goodness to me?” Psalm 116
When he discovered that Mary was with child, Joseph resolved to end their engagement with
as little disgrace as possible. But obedient to the voice of God, he changed those plans and
became instead the protector of the child Jesus and his mother, Mary. God grant that I may
be as open to the leading of the Holy Spirit!
Next Week’s Second Collection
The Christmas Eve and Christmas Day second collection will benefit Catholic
Charities Atlanta. Catholic Charities Atlanta is an advocate and friend for
individuals and families facing adversity. They provide a holistic combination of
accredited social services—life skills education, counseling, family stabilization,
and immigration legal services—that remove barriers to self-sufficiency and
wholeness. Their services are tailored for the unique circumstances of the people
they serve, and their impact in our community is real and measurable. Last year
they served more than 21,632 clients in North Georgia. This year the requests for
their services have more than doubled! Please give generously where it truly counts.
Help Catholic Charities to provide help and create hope for individuals and
families in need of Georgia.
Preparing To Make a Withdrawal From Your IRA?
The IRA Charitable Rollover is back for another year! In 2011, direct gifts to
Cathedral of Christ the King from your IRA can:
1. Be an easy and convenient way to make a gift from one of your major assets
2. Be excluded from your gross income: a tax-free rollover
3. Count toward your required minimum distribution
For your gift to us to qualify for benefits under the extension:
 You must be 70 1/2 or older at the time of your gift
 The transfer must go directly from your IRA to CTK
 Your total IRA gift(s) cannot exceed $100,000
Your gift must be outright—transfers to a charitable trust or in exchange for a
charitable gift annuity do not qualify.
And don’t miss out on these little-known pointers!
One-Step Gift: A direct transfer of IRA funds to CTK may offer relief from the
application of the alternative minimum tax (AMT).
Two-Step Gift: Consider giving us appreciated securities that you own outside of
your IRA instead, and use your distribution to replace those securities in your
portfolio—thereby establishing a new and higher cost basis. Or diversify your
portfolio by purchasing other investments. Question? Contact Deanna Franco at
[email protected].

Weekend Traffic
A Peachtree Heights East
Neighborhood Association
representative has contacted us
regarding the volume of traffic on
Peachtree Way before and after
weekend Masses.
In an effort to be a good neighbor,
we ask that, when leaving the
parking deck or the school parking
lot, please exit out of the
neighborhood onto Peachtree Road
and/or East Wesley. Traffic officers
will direct cars to use the alleyway
between the school and green space
for easy access to East Wesley.
We understand that Peachtree Way
is a public street and many of you
live in the surrounding
neighborhoods. If you have
concerns regarding this initiative,
please contact Councilman Howard

[email protected], or by phone
at 404-330-6050.

Christ the King School Jingle Jog
Each year, CKS students donate one dollar of their own money in order to receive
‘jingle bells’ to wear on their shoes as they jog around the duck pond in the
school’s annual ‘Jingle Jog.’ The money raised by the students is then donated to
the Cathedral’s Spanish Ministry; an integral part of the Cathedral parish that
ministers to those parishioners who speak Spanish. The Ministry provides
spiritual growth for Hispanics by providing the means to celebrate their faith in
their own language and traditions through reception of the Sacraments, religious
education, prayer groups, Bible classes, small communities, social events, and
cultural celebrations. The Ministry also assists newcomers with English classes and
job connections until they become independent in their new surroundings.
The students enjoyed a brisk morning jog as they supported a great cause!

WELCOME FROM THE PASTOR AND
CATHEDRAL STAFF
Dear Friends in Christ,
On behalf of Archbishop Wilton Gregory, the Clergy and
staff, I welcome you to the Cathedral of Christ the King. I
hope and pray that you feel welcomed by our parish
community and that your spiritual and pastoral needs will
be met.
We are a very active parish with 4,400 families and over one
hundred ministries. We encourage our members to share
their gifts of time, talent and treasure.
Our mission statement is to “Know, Love and Serve as Jesus
Did”. This is the mission of each disciple of Christ and, if
you are new, I hope and pray that you will join us and be
part of the community of Christ the King. If you are passing
through or visiting the city of Atlanta, I hope you enjoy your
worship experience and please visit us again.
If you would like to know more about our parish, you can
visit our website at www.cathedralofchristtheking.org or
email us.
May we, this day and all the days of our lives, know, love
and serve as Jesus did.
Prayers and Blessings,
Father Frank McNamee, Pastor
