The Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest is a Society of Apostolic Life in Canonical
Form of Pontifical Right. Founded in Gabon, Africa in 1990, the Institute has its Motherhouse and
International Seminary in Florence, Italy and works currently in over fifty dioceses worldwide. In
the United States it comprises thirteen apostolates and has its U.S. Headquarters in Chicago.
Having been invited to Tucson in 2008 by His Excellency The Most Reverend Gerald F. Kicanas,
Bishop of Tucson, the Institute celebrates the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Liturgy at
St. Gianna Oratory according to the Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum of Pope Benedict XVI.
Effective August 6, 2010 Bishop Kicanas has entrusted the Parish Administration of Holy Family
Parish to the Institute which conducts the Religious Education Program and provides parish
management, while priests from within the Diocese are charged with the celebration of the Ordinary
Form of the Roman Liturgy at Holy Family Parish.

Letter of the Rector
Dear Faithful,
This weekend we welcome Father Abran Tadeo to Holy Family Catholic Church. Fr. Abran will celebrate the
Parish 11:30 a.m. Spanish Mass at the request of Bishop Gerald Kicanas and invite the Spanish Mass attendees, who
wish to have a comprehensive pastoral care in Spanish, to join him at St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Parish. This parish
is located two minutes from Holy Family Parish, and Fr. Abran is assisted there by two deacons and a team of
bi-lingual office staff and catechists.
Next week on September 29th, Fr. Antonio Ruiz will celebrate the last Spanish 11:30 a.m. Sunday Mass. All the
information about the upcoming Mass time consolidation at Holy Family Church are provided for you in Bishop
Kicanas‟ letter and my Letter of the Rector from 09/08/2013 which you find on the credence tables in the back of the
church.
With Sunday, October 6, 2013 a new Mass schedule will be in place: Saturday Vigil Mass in English at 4:00 p.m.,
Sunday Morning Mass with organ at 7:00 a.m., Latin Low Mass with organ at 8:30 a.m. and Latin High Mass with
Gregorian Chant and organ at 10:00 a.m.
Bishop Kicanas and myself are convinced that this schedule will help the viability of Holy Family Church and will help
in particular the Spanish Mass attendees who have requested a comprehensive pastoral care in Spanish, and who are in
need of services which we are unable to provide at Holy Family Church, but which exist at the Parishes in our
immediate vicinity (Spiritual direction & Confessions in Spanish, CCD and RCIA in Spanish, Adult Formation in
Spanish, Marriage Annulment assistance in Spanish, etc.).
We hope that many faithful will remain at Holy Family Church also after the Mass time consolidation, and we
are determined to continue all our services. We will stay committed to our Hispanic, Anglo and African American heritage. We invite you to stay committed to our church!
In this bulletin I would like to continue answering practical questions which have been raised by the Faithful about the
Mass time consolidations:
1. What will happen to my Mass intention scheduled for the 10 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. Mass? Mrs. Irene Garcia, our
secretary, is working on rescheduling the Mass intentions for the 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Masses to an available
Saturday 4 p.m. or Sunday 7 a.m. Mass. Since the Code of Canon Law requires that one Mass must be offered each
Sunday and Holy Day for the parishioners, Mass intentions are being rescheduled into March of 2014. Irene will call
you to work out a new day and time for your intentioned Mass.
2. May I ask for a refund of the stipend I paid for a Mass intention so I may schedule the intention elsewhere?
Yes. If you find it more convenient to have a Mass said elsewhere for your intention, you may ask for a refund on the
Mass stipend already paid. Please remember that the availability for specific dates for Mass intentions may also be
restricted at other parishes and the stipend amount may vary.
3. If I attend one of the two Masses in Latin, will my donation still go to Holy Family Church? Yes. As registered
parishioner of Holy Family Church, your donation will be credited to Holy Family Church at as long as it is identified
as a contribution to Holy Family Church. You may do this by using your Holy Family Church donation envelopes or by
making your check payable to Holy Family Church. If donating cash, please place it in an envelope with your name
and write "Holy Family Church" on the envelope.
If you do not have donation envelopes and would like some, please call the office. We will be happy to assist you in
obtaining your own set of Holy Family Church donation envelopes.
If faithful put monies in the collection basket without identifying the beneficiary (Holy Family Church or St. Gianna
Oratory) , then all unmarked donations from the Saturday English Vigil Mass at 4:00 p.m. and the Sunday Morning
English Mass at 7:00 a.m. Mass will go to Holy Family Church. Unmarked donations at the Latin Sunday Mass at 8:30
a.m. and 10:00 a.m. will go to St. Gianna Oratory.
4. Can I stay registered with Holy Family Parish if I attend one of the Latin Masses? Yes, of course. The celebrant of
the two Latin Masses is Canon Richard von Menshengen. He is the Rector of St. Gianna Oratory and at the same time also
the Parish Administrator of Holy Family Church. Canon Richard von Menshengen is the spiritual father for both
communities, Holy Family Parish and St. Gianna Oratory. Both communities are one big family. If you attend the English
or the Latin Mass, if you are Hispanic, Anglo or African American, Canon Richard von Menshengen is honored to serve
you and your family in your spiritual needs!
5.How many Masses in English will remain after the Mass time consolidation? We will continue having our Saturday
Vigil Mass in English which will be celebrated by Very Rev. Msgr. Gerald Walsh. We will also continue our Sunday
Morning English Mass at 7:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Father Abran Dono.
5. I do not understand Latin. How can I participate at a Latin Mass? Latin is the official language of the Catholic
Church. Your parents or grandparents were raised with the Latin Mass. All Saints and Blessed of the Roman Catholic
Church since the third century A.D. were raised with the Latin Mass and they loved it! If tourists learn some sentences in
exotic languages for their vacation trips and business people speak foreign languages fluently to earn a living, then we can
also learn that “Dominus vobiscum” means “The Lord is with you”, and “Et cum spiritu tuo” means “And also with your
spirit”. In the back of the church we have booklets with the prayers in English/Latin as well as Spanish/ Latin. We have
books available to learn about Holy Mass and its liturgy.
At the Latin Sunday Masses I will give 2 minute presentations about a topic of the liturgy before the homilies. The Mass
Readings will also be available in English and Spanish. More information will also be provided in the bulletin.
When I discovered the Latin Mass, after having served the Mass in my native German for many years, it took me a few
Sundays to get familiar and then I discovered the great spiritual and theological treasure of this Liturgy which goes back
in its essence to Our Lord Himself and to the Apostles as the Council of Trent teaches.
The Latin Mass is very pastoral because it connects us through its Liturgy with the entire Catholic Church beyond borders
and timelines. We can experience the mystery of God and of His Majesty, we are drawn with all our senses into the
participation at the Sacrifice of the Mass. The exterior worship reflects, aides and forms the interior worship of the Most
Holy Trinity in our hearts.
Jesus is our Highpriest and our perfect and immaculate Victim. Jesus draws and assumes us into His Sacrifice when He
renews the bloody Sacrifice of the Cross in an unbloody manner on our altars at the moment of the Eucharistic
Consecration at Mass.
In the sacrament of Baptism we receive an indelible character, a spiritual mark, which is imprinted on our soul. This
spiritual character enables us, at an ontological level, to participate/ take part/ share in the Catholic Liturgy, especially in
the Most Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
If you have found a treasure in the soil, then you need some elbow grease in order to dig it out. With spiritual treasures
like the Roman Liturgy in its Extraordinary Form it is similar: We need prayer, some study/catechesis and attention. The
Holy Spirit will enlighten us with His gifts if we ask Him to do so:
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.
V. Send forth your Spirit, and they shall be created.
R. And You shall renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray.
O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit
we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Holy Family Catholic Church is one of Tucson’s historic landmarks.
Built in the Mission style in 1913 in the Hispanic Dunbar Springs neighborhood and close to the
University of Arizona, it was consecrated on Jan. 14, 1915 by Msgr. Henry R. Granjon, third Bishop of
Tucson (1900-1922).
Holy Family Parish is Tucson‟s oldest Catholic church. Its first pastor Fr. Lucas of St. Joseph O.C.D.
and his successor Fr. Eduardo of the Child Jesus O.C.D. were beatified by Pope Benedict XVI on October 28, 2007, the Feast of Christ the King.
Since September 2008, Holy Family Catholic Church is the home of both Holy Family Parish and
St. Gianna Oratory with the Traditional Latin Liturgy. Both communities are under the care of

La Parroquia de la Sagrada Familia es una de los lugares de interés histórico de Tucson.
En el ano 1913, la iglesia fue construida en el estilo de las misiones en el barrio hispano Dunbar Springs cerca
a la universidad de Arizona. Fue consagrada el 14 de enero 1915 por Monseñor Henry R. Granjon, tercer
obispo de Tucson (1900-1922).
Parroquia de la Sagrada Familia es la más antigua parroquia de Tucson. Su primer párroco, el Padre Lucas de
San José O.C.D., y su socio Fr. Eduardo del Niño Jesús O.C.D., fueron beatificados por el Papa Benedicto

INVITATION TO THE LATIN MASS
With the Church document “Summorum Pontificum” (2007) Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI invited us all to
discover the treasure of the Latin Mass, of the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Liturgy, which is the
Liturgy of Rome, of the Popes and subsequently the Liturgy of most of Christendom. Over the centuries the
Holy Ghost, Who is the Spirit of Jesus Christ and Who is the Soul of the Catholic Church and the Sanctifier, has
created the marvelous Catholic Liturgy, and especially the Roman Rite which is considered the Mother of all
Catholic liturgical rites.
The Liturgy is like the most beautiful artwork and setting for the gem of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and of the
sacraments. All theological depth of expression, all beauty of art, all devotion and sense for the sacred has been
gathered by the Holy Spirit in the elaboration of the Catholic Liturgy in which our Lord and High Priest Jesus
Christ gathers us in the spirit of adoration, praise, thanksgiving, petition and atonement before God the Father.
The Latin language is a bond of unity that unites us to the Chair of St. Peter and lets us pray in the same words as
our parents, grandparents, and ancestors worshipped. Jesus spoke Latin, St. Peter and St. Paul lived in Rome and
spoke Latin, the Popes speak and write in Latin; Latin is not the language of a foreign nation but the first language
of our Holy Mother the Church.
Latin is used both in the Novus Ordo/Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite as well as in the Extraordinary Form of
the Roman Rite. Latin is an integral part of the papal Liturgy. From Pope John XXIII and the Second Vatican
Council (1962-1965) to Pope Francis the Magisterium of the Church has insisted on the importance of Latin for
the daily celebration of the Liturgy.
We invite you to discover the Latin Mass and to start a spiritual journey into the heart of the Church’s
Liturgy. Booklets in English/Latin and Spanish/Latin are available on the credenzas in the back of the church.
Latin is a language without borders; the Liturgy of the Latin Mass goes back to the first centuries of
Christianity. Latin is an open language that belongs to you and to me, to our ancestors and to future generations.
It is the same Mass, it is the first language of the Church, it brings you through its depth of faith and
beauty of expression enumerable blessings! It lets you breath the living faith of twenty centuries to conquer
the twenty-first century for Christ!
Participation at the Latin Mass is very easy:

At the Low Mass the servers answer for the congregation so that the faithful do not even need to know any
answers and may follow the Liturgy either in the Missal, or by watching it prayerfully, or by meditating upon the
Mysteries of Christ.
At the High Mass the choir sings the answers and the faithful in the congregation may join in if they wish to do
so. In order to attend a Latin Mass you don‟t need to have any pre-knowledge. Your knowledge will deepen at
each Latin Mass that you attend. In addition, you will learn more about the theological meaning of its rites and
prayers in catechism classes, conferences and sermons which we have been offering.
Just come and see and everything else will follow. Missals for the faithful are available. We also have books
about the Latin Mass for sale if you wish to deepen your knowledge about the most beautiful thing this side of
Heaven.
In the Sacrament of Baptism we receive an indelible mark on our soul, the so-called character– which enables
us to spiritually participate in the Catholic Liturgy in the celebration of the Divine Mysteries.. Our vocal prayer
and our exterior expressions of kneeling, sitting, standing, folding of hands, singing etc. are an outward
expression of our interior faith which is the Faith of the Holy Catholic Church.

Vigésimo Quinto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario (AÑO “C’)
Lecturas:
Amós 8: 4-7; Salmo 113:1-2, 4-6, 7-8; 1 Timoteo 2: 1-8
Meditacion: Evangelio: Lucas 16: 1–13
Jesús no elogió al mal administrador por su falta de honestidad, sino por su astucia para procurarse
amistades a quienes recurrir en su día de necesidad. Con esta parábola Jesús quería explicar que los
que buscan el Reino de Dios no siempre actúan con la habilidad o sagacidad de quienes viven para las
posesiones materiales.
Los que llevan una vida puramente materialista actúan con astucia cuando tienen que tomar decisiones
para sus negocios o finanzas personales, en cambio los cristianos no suelen buscar el Reino de Dios con
toda su inteligencia y dedicación. En realidad, Jesús nos desafía a ser tan astutos para buscar su Reino
como lo somos para procurarnos el dinero y los bienes que consideramos necesarios.
¿Por qué somos indiferentes con las bendiciones eternas del Reino, y tan astutos y diligentes para
buscar las bendiciones pasajeras de este mundo? La respuesta es que todo depende de aquello a lo que
le atribuimos valor y prioridad: ¿Qué es lo más importante para nosotros: vivir para ganar dinero en
este mundo o asegurar que tendremos comunión eterna con Dios?
Ciertamente no debemos vivir solo para ganar dinero ni cerrar el corazón ante la necesidad de los
pobres, porque el dinero se nos da para usarlo con prudencia y compartirlo con el que no tiene.
En efecto, es imposible amar a Dios y al dinero al mismo tiempo. El uso que damos al dinero revela,
inevitablemente, cuánto nos preocupamos por los pobres y si estamos dispuestos a compartir lo que
tenemos con los necesitados. No es fácil ser generoso con el dinero que tanto nos ha costado ganar,
pero si le pedimos al Señor que nos libere del apego a los bienes materiales y nos abra el corazón, poco
a poco actuaremos con generosidad y amor desinteresado.
“Amado Señor, quiero que tú seas mi único Dios y Señor y quiero pertenecerte y serte
fiel todos los días de mi vida. Ayúdame, Señor, a desapegarme de los bienes materiales
y no permitas que me deje llevar por el amor al dinero.”
