This is a quick, easy way to par cipate in the Jubilee Year. POPE FRANCIS’ YEAR OF MERCY PRAYER #2 GO TO CONFESSION. We cannot give what we do not have. Experience God’s mercy firsthand. #3 FORGIVE SOMEONE. Do you have a difficult rela onship in your life? Share God’s mercy with that person. #4 READ A GOOD CATHOLIC BOOK ABOUT MERCY. The Joy of the Gospel by Pope Francis is a great place to start. #5 PICK ONE SPIRITUAL AND ONE CORPORAL WORK OF MERCY. Do not try to do them all at once! Take one of each, and focus on sharing mercy simply. #6 PRAY THE DIVINE MERCY NOVENA. Star ng Good Friday, this a typical nineday novena to invoke Jesus’ mercy. #7 TAKE A PILGRIMAGE It does not have to be far. Simply find a shrine or other spiritual site near you and spend me in prayer. Lord Jesus Christ, You have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father, and have told us that whoever sees you sees Him. Show us your face and we will be saved. Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Ma hew from being enslaved by money; the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created things; made Peter weep a er his betrayal, and assured Paradise to the repentant thief. Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that you spoke to the Samaritan woman: “If you knew the gi of God!” You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy: let the Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified. BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error: let everyone who approaches them feel sought a er, loved, and forgiven by God. Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anoin ng, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord, and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to cap ves and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind. We ask this through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy, you who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen ST. Flu symptoms include: cough, fever, sore throat, stuffy nose, chills, headache and body aches, fa gue, (and some mes nausea, vomi ng and diarrhea). 4. Do not shake hands (e.g., gree ngs and sign of peace) if you have a scratchy throat, the “sniffles,” coughing, or sneezing. 5. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that the parishes not distribute the Precious Blood (the chalice) during the flu season. We discourage the distribu on of the Host on the tongue un l a flu epidemic has passed. Doing so can contaminate the en re ciborium if a finger touches an infected person on the tongue or mouth, and then returns to the ciborium. With the number of flu cases on the rise, we have suspended the distribuƟon of the Precious Blood at all Masses unƟl further noƟce. Thank you for your understanding. During this Ɵme, please prayerfully discern if you may be called to be an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. Page 4 Rite for the Blessing of a Child in the Womb TODAY—All Masses (except 6:30am) Sunday, January 10 The Church welcomes with joy and compassion the mothers who, recognizing that all life is a gift from God, come to the Church seeking a blessing for their unborn child. Such a blessing sustains the parents by imparting grace and comfort in time of concern and need, unites the parish in prayer for the unborn child, and fosters respect for human life within society. “God, author of all life, bless we pray, this unborn child; give constant protection and a healthy birth that is the sign of your rebirth one day into the eternal rejoicing of heaven”...excerpt from the Prayer of Blessing.
