THE MOST HOLY TRINITY
May 22, 2016
Pastor’s Corner:
Feast of the Most Holy Trinity
Trinity Sunday, officially "The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity," is one of the few feasts of the Christian
Year that celebrates a reality and doctrine rather than an event or person. On Trinity Sunday we remember and honor
the eternal God: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Trinity Sunday is celebrated the Sunday after Pentecost, and
lasts only one day, which is symbolic of the unity of the Trinity.
The Trinity is one of the most fascinating - and controversial - Christian dogmas. The Trinity is a mystery but
by “mystery” the Church does not mean a riddle, but rather the Trinity is a reality above our human comprehension
that we may begin to grasp, but ultimately must know through worship, symbol, and faith. It has been said that
mystery is not a wall to run up against, but an ocean in which to swim. The common wisdom is that if you talk about
the Trinity for longer than a few minutes you will slip into heresy because you are probing the depths of God too
deeply.
The celebration of Trinity Sunday provides us the occasion to reflect and recommit ourselves to our faith.
Whether we were baptized as infants or adults, we are constantly invited to live our belief in the Triune God – He
who has given Himself that we may have life. Our relationship with God is not measured by how much we come to
know about Him but by how we love and live in, with and through Him.
On the feast of the Holy Trinity, we are also challenged to witness our faith. The world has so much evolved
that the reality and truth about God is constantly questioned. Atheists and people who refuse to acknowledge the
presence of God in their lives and even in the society they live are relentlessly trying to remove any vestiges and indication of God’s workings. They want to remove God in schools, edifices, work places and many other places because they do not want to have anything to do with God and vice versa. Consequently, as Catholics we have to uphold our faith in God – a God who has endowed us and the world we live in with his bounty and love.

Serra Daily Prayer for priestly and religious vocations:
Jesus, Lord of the harvest, Look with love on this portion of your vineyard. Bless the Diocese of San Diego with more priests to shepherd your people, Priests with hearts like
your own. Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us.
Pray for Priests and Vocations “Now we ask you to respect those who work hard among you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work.” (1 Thess. 5:12, 13,
NIV) When we pray for vocations for the priesthood, diaconate and religious, we actually pray for ourselves, since holy priests, deacons and religious should result in a holier
people. When we pray for these servants of Christ, we also win the favor of Christ, for we, in so praying, are furthering His work. By praying for vocations we are helping our
children and our children's children because we are using a meritorious means of preserving our faith for them. “Now we ask you to respect those who work hard among you.
Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work.” (1 Thess. 5:12, 13, NIV)

WELCOME TO OUR NEW DIRECTOR OF CATECHETICAL MINISTRY ~ MARCIAL LOPEZ I am wrapping up my 14 years as St. Stephen’s Catechetical
Program Coordinator. My last day will be June 8th. God is
calling me to focus on caring for my 91 year old mother who is
needing more attention these days! I am so grateful for the
opportunity to have served my home parish in this capacity! It
has been truly an honor and privilege to walk this journey of
faith with all of you! I am excited for St. Stephen’s as we welcome Marcial Lopez as the new Director of Catechetical Ministry. We are truly blessed to have him continue the great work
that is being done here at St. Stephen’s. I ask that you please
give him your complete support and pray for where God may be
calling you to share your gifts. We are in need of new Catechists and volunteers in all areas of ministry. Please stay tuned
for more specifics as Marcial takes over the reins. Please know
that I am praying for our parish community and for Marcial as
we continue to grow and respond to God’s call to holiness and
evangelization! God Bless ~ Ellen MacPhee
It is with tremendous joy that I come to continue the ministry
that Ellen has so lovingly lead. I am not replacing her, that is an
impossible task. Instead I come to share my love for the Lord
and joy of working with individuals and families helping to
continue Christ’s mission; making dynamic disciples based on
our wonderful Catholic traditions. I bring 23 years of experience in youth, young adult, family and children’s ministry. I
am looking forward to getting to know you and share in the
ministry here at St. Stephen Parish. I ask for your prayers for
me and the ministry as we transition. Anyone interested in
helping me in this great opportunity of ministry, please come to
a meet and greet June 7th at 6:30 pm.

You taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father,
and have told us that whoever sees you sees Him. Show us
your face and we will be saved.
Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being
enslaved by money; the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness
only in created things; made Peter weep after his
betrayal, and assured Paradise to the repentant thief.
Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that you spoke to
the Samaritan woman: “If you knew the gift of God!”
You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the God who manifests his power above
all by forgiveness and mercy: let the Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord risen
and glorified. You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness in order that
they may feel compassion for those in
ignorance and error: let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God. Send Your Spirit And Consecrate Every One Of Us With Its Anointing. So The
Jubilee of Mercy May Be A Year Of Grace From The Lord. And Your Church.
With Renewed Enthusiasm, May We Bring Your Good News To The Poor. Proclaim Liberty To Captives And The Oppressed, And Restore Sight To The Blind.
We Ask This Through The Intercession Of Mary, o Mercy, and You who lives and reigns
with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever Amen.

LA SANTÍSIMA TRINIDAD
Mayo 22, 2016

con amor a esta porción de tu viña. Bendice la Diócesis de San Diego Bendito sea el Señor, porque él ha escuchado el sonido de mi escrito: "el Señor es mi fortaleza y mi escudo. En él confía en mi corazón, y encontrar ayuda; a continuación, mi corazón exultante y con mi hijo le doy fuerza mi escudo . En él confía en mi corazón, y encontrar ayuda;

adúltera y a la Magdalena del buscar la felicidad solamente en una creatura;
