On Saturday, October 3rd Sr. Dolores Magdalena Cruz Mendoza of the Holy Family took her 1st Profession of Vows Sunday Reflection Brothers and sisters in Christ, Last Sunday, we preached about respecting life from conception to natural death. The movement to spread a “culture of life” continues each and every single day and it only happens when we individually spread that Gospel message of life everywhere we go. Part of spreading the Gospel message of life is being able to look at our own lives and be thankful for the blessings that we have. None of our lives are perfect. There are definitely things that we all can improve on. But what we need to try and stop doing is comparing ourselves to others. Rather we must be appreciative of how God has uniquely blessed us. We are all blessed. Waking up this morning to a new day is a blessing. Being able to practice our faith in Church today is blessing. Our life is a blessing. And so is every single human life: as that life is developing in the womb, as that life is growing in the world, and as that life eventually meets the end. We are blessings that must be cherished and loved each and every single day. Celebrate life. This weekend, the Church celebrates World Mission Sunday, and the how we are called to support the lives of people throughout the world. As we celebrate the canonization of St. Junipero Serra, we recall how he took on the task of bringing the Gospel to our state establishing the missions so that Christianity could be spread and practiced. That work continues today. We welcome Fr. Jose Goopio, SVD and Br. Andre Hotchkiss, SVD who will speak about the great work that they do in the missions. Thank you for your support and generosity. Our confirmation team will be hosting an “All Hallows Eve” fundraiser event in our parish hall for children of all ages. Cost is only $5 for admission per person which provides for unlimited games and prizes. Snack and drinks will be sold at an additional cost. This event provides a fun and safe atmosphere for our children to enjoy Halloween and learn about their faith as it leads into All Saints Day celebrated on November 1st. Bring your kids and grandkids to this wonderful event. As Archbishop Gomez, bishops and Church leaders continue to gather for the Synod on the Family, let us pray that the Holy Spirit may guide them and may the Holy Family intercede for them. Jesus, Mary and Joseph – pray for us. Our Lady of Peace… pray for us. SCHOOL STUDENT NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICY The school, mindful of its mission to be a witness to the love of Christ for all, admits students regardless of race, color or national and/or ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. The school does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, disability, sex or national and/or ethnic origin in the administration of educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs, although certain athletic leagues and other programs may limit participation and some archdiocesan schools operate as single sex schools. While the school does not discriminate against students with special needs, a full range of services may not always be available to them. Decisions concerning the admission and continued enrollment of a student in the school are based upon the student’s emotional, academic and physical abilities and the resources available to the school in meeting the student’s needs. Men’s Priesthood Discernment Group All men (18+ years) interested in discerning a vocation to the priesthood are invited to monthly prayer meetings that will be held on the 2nd Friday of every month: 11/13 & 12/11 from 7:00 PM - 9:00PM What does the Church teach regarding Homosexuality? with Frank McKown This informative session will explain what's in Church documents - both from the Vatican and U.S. Bishops - and what the Church says about being welcoming of and ministering to gay and lesbian Catholics. We will address what parents need to know after they've learned their son or daughter is LGBT. Also structured to help clergy, catechists, and teachers better communicate with parishioners and students on gay and lesbian matters, the session will concentrate on the U.S. Bishops' documents "Always Our Children" (1997) and "Ministry to Persons with a Homosexual Inclination: Guidelines for Pastoral Care" (2006). What does the Church teach regarding homosexuality? Is being gay a sin? Is being gay or lesbian a choice rather than an orientation?
