Today and next Sunday, we celebrate our wonderful
school. A little of our school’s history can be found
below. The main thing for us is that the history
continues. We’d love to have all our parishioners share
the story of our school with parents of grade school
children. We’d love to serve more children from families who attend Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. Celebrate this wonderful place with us!
OUR LADY’S SCHOOL HISTORY
Two separate schools Catholic schools merged in
1973 to become what we now call Our Lady’s School.
Our Lady of Angels’ School & Our Lady of Guadalupe
School each have a rich history of academic excellence
and achievement in their respective communities. Today,
they work together to form a pre-school to eight-grade
educational system that prepares children to meet the
challenges of life.
Our Lady of Angels’ was built under the leadership of
the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. The school was
erected in 1912 to serve the Sherman Heights and
Golden Hill communities. Our current site was later built
in 1922 to serve first through eighth grade students.
In 1945, the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia
established Our Lady of Guadalupe School to meet the
growing demand for quality Catholic education in the
Logan Heights community.
A combination of civil unrest and rezoning laws led to
a dramatic decrease in enrollment in 1970. In the face
of financial difficulties and possible closure, the two
schools merged in 1973.
Today, Our Lady's School stands as the oldest Catholic
elementary school in San Diego County. The South
Campus, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, accommodates
kindergarten through third grades. The North Campus,
at Our Lady of Angels Parish, accommodates our preschool and grades fourth through eighth.
In an effort to nourish both the academic and spiritual
needs of our students, Our Lady's School has sought the
guidance of the Jesuit Order through the supporting
parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe. We strive to evoke
St. Ignatius of Loyola's standards of education by
promoting justice, love, service and spirituality in all
that we teach and do.

Hoy y el próximo domingo, celebramos nuestra maravillosa
escuela. Un poco de la historia de nuestra escuela se puede
encontrar a continuación. Lo más importante para nosotros
es que la historia continúa. Nos encantaría que todos nuestros
feligreses compartan la historia de nuestra escuela con
padres de niños en escuela primaria. Nos encantaría tener
más niños de familias que asisten a nuestra parroquia.

HISTORIA DE LA ESCUELA DE NUESTRA SEÑORA
Dos escuelas católicas se unieron en 1973 para convertirse
en lo que ahora llamamos la Escuela de Nuestra Señora.
La Escuela Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles y la Escuela
Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe ambas tienen una rica
historia de excelencia académica y de logros en sus
respectivas comunidades. Hoy en día, trabajan juntas
para formar un sistema educativo de pre-escolar a octavo
grado que prepara a los niños para satisfacer los
desafíos de la vida.
Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles fue construida bajo la
dirección de las Hermanas de San José de Carondelet.
La escuela fue construida en 1912 para servir a las
comunidades de Sherman Heights y Golden Hill.
Nuestro sitio actual se construyó más tarde en 1922
para servir a grados de primero a octavo.
En 1945, las Hermanas de San Francisco de Filadelfia
establecieron la Escuela Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe
para satisfacer la creciente demanda de educación católica de calidad en la comunidad de Logan Heights.
Una combinación de disturbios civiles y leyes de
rezonificación condujo a una dramática disminución
de la matrícula en el año 1970. A la vista de
dificultades financieras y posible cierre, las dos
escuelas se unieron en 1973.
Hoy en día, la Escuela de Nuestra Señora es la escuela
primaria católica más antigua en el Condado de San
Diego. El Campus Sur, en Nuestra Señora de
Guadalupe, tiene capacidad para grados de kínder a
tercero. El Campus Norte, en Nuestra Señora de los
Ángeles, tiene capacidad para pre-escolar y de cuarto
a octavo grado.
En un esfuerzo para nutrir tanto las necesidades académicas
y espirituales de nuestros estudiantes, la Escuela de
Nuestra Señora ha buscado la dirección de la Compañía
de Jesús. Nos esforzamos en evocar los estándares de
educación de San Ignacio de Loyola mediante la promoción
de la justicia, el amor, el servicio y la espiritualidad en
todo lo que enseñamos y hacemos.
