MAY 24,20165:40 PM Mass-transit vow History tells us to put little faith in recent promises by county leaders to add six
new transit lines. But I hope that this time we will buck that tradition.
These proposed lines are promising because of their connections to educational
institutions. Miami is home to huge numbers of commuting college students who
would welcome better transportation options. The new lines, including Tri-Rail's
Coastal Link, would connect Florida International University's main and north
campuses. FlU is the nation's fourth-largest university system, and most of its
students are commuters.
The proposed North and Kendall corridors would connect to Miami Dade College's
North and Kendall campuses. Coastal Link would also connect Barry University and
Johnson & Wales. These connections should be priorities, as they promise high
ridership returns. Let's get students off expensive and dangerous expressways and
onto a 21st-century mass-transit system.

primarily advises innovative Agtech, Cleantech and transportation solutions companies. As

TEATRO PROMETEO SUMMER FUN PROGRAM FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN Miami's Community News
singing and crafts. This dynamic and fun program
helps children develop their expressive abilities,
Spanish language skills, and help them improve
coordination, musicality and creativity with
disciplined activities.
The Prometeitos Summer Camp is held at the Koubek
Center, 2705 S.W. 3 Street, in Miami and registrations
are still open! The Prometeitos Summer Camp
includes 3 weeks of acting, dance and singing in
Spanish, June 10th to 28th, Monday to Friday from
8 :30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The cost of the classes is $250 per
week or $700 for the three weeks. After each week, the
students will make a special presentation to family
and friends.

Classes for adults began on May 13 at the Miami Dade
College's Wolfson campus and are held in the
evenings during the week and during the day on
Saturdays. Actors can perfect their craft with classes
in acting, voice and diction, dramaturgy, acting for
the cameras, and a camera lab. The schedule of

NWSA dean of the visual arts program, Maggy Cuesta
and gallerist Fredric Snitzer, this exhibition offers
unique approaches to the process of making art in all
mediums. 3This conceptual and highly developed
work is the result of our studentIs determination and
training,2 explained Cuesta. 3The show demonstrates
their ability to take theory, concepts, and the skill
they have honed throughout the years to create their
final showcase before they enter the world of
professional artists or continue to pursue their
advanced degrees. 2

Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO), 1018 North
Miami Avenue, Miami, FL 33136. URGENT is on view

"lead viewers to imagine someone whom they haven't met and possibly to
reconstruct a new person - a hybrid out of the complicated and yet clearly
descriptive anatomy. I also try to quantify the aura of the figure, which refers
to an invisible spirit and soul, drawing halo-like curves around the head ."
The artist also aims to express his thoughts on painting, his perspective on
the world, and the energy of an artist through his info graphics.
Grace Berrios' Tongue Ambiguous explores the ambiguity of meaning that
derives from language barriers. "The idea for the project came about as I
looked back at my life and realized how the transition I made when I
immigrated from Honduras to the United States changed me. Not knowing
the language and having to learn it to effectively communicate with others,
while still keeping an understanding of the world in my own language,
affected the way I thought, the way I behaved. and the way I understood
others." Berrios work aims to offers an experience that highlights the
process of trying to understand the meaning of information in another
language and how phrases that are inherently familiar to a person can
easily be lost in translation. "I think there is an important dialogue in
addressing language assimilation and how it influences our perspectives as
individuals," said Grace. "Moreover, I want to open up a conversation about
the linguistic barriers that affect immigrants and how Spanish and Latino
cultures get assimilated into American society.
In Big Water. Hugo Patao - a graduating painting major - uses mixed
media to create environments hat he calls his own 'minds capes' . "Working
primarily with painting , I make layered, photo-based works that have an
abstract look." Explained Patao, "What interest me the most is the nature of
reality, including perception, memory, time , and dreams. I like to explore
imagined places that ha ve the potential to become real. or real places that
looked imagined."

Event Description
New World School of the Arts ' 2016 BFA tinal visual arts showcase is a group exhibition
highlighting a variety of works from 28 visual artists of divergent disciplines. Professionally
curated by NWSA dean of the visual arts program, Maggy Cuesta and gallerist Fredric Snitzer,
this exhibition offers unique approaches to the process of making art in all mediums. "This
conceptual and highly developed work is the result of our student's determination and training,"
explained Cuesta. "The show demonstrates their ability to take theory, concepts, and the skill
they have honed throughout the years to create their tinal showcase before they enter the
world of professional artists or continue to pursue their advanced degrees."

Rumbera Network) EI prestlgioso Teatro Prometeo del Miami Oade College (MOC) volvera a ofrecer nuevamente el querodo campamento de verano Los Prometeitos, un programa diverse en espanol que introducira a los pequenos de 6 a 12 alios a la actuacion, canto, danza, artes manuales y redaccion creativa. Las sesiones se lIevaran a cabo del 13 de junio at 1 de julio en el Koubek Center del MOC, ubicado en el2705 S.W. 3rd Street. Miami, Mayo 24, 2016 - EI Miami Dade College (MDC), con
su larga historia de ser guardian ejemplar de edificios
historicos y hacerlos accesibles a los estudiantes y
comunidad con propositos educacionales y culturales,
finalizo las negociaciones de arrendamiento con la
Administracion de Servicios Generales de los Estados
Unidos (GSA) que propiciara el uso a largo plazo y
renovacion del historico edificio David W. Dyer en
downtown Miami. Habra una ceremonia de formalizacion
oficial del acuerdo, el viernes 3 de junio a las 10:30 a.m. en
la esquina de la Calle 3 del NE y la Calle Primera del
Campus
EI arrendamiento esta compuesto por periodos iniciales y
de renovacion que totalizan 115 anos. El inicial se extiende
por 65 anos, seguido por otros de 20, 15 Y 15,
respectivamente. El precio anual de alquiler es de $1.00
durante el periodo inicial, y la renta aplicada a los periodos
de renovacion subsiguientes incrementan nominalmente.
A su vez, el College remodelara y adaptara la iconica
edificacion, preservando y protegiendo sus elementos y
obras de arte de caracter historico.
La hist6rica instalaci6n destinada a correos y cortes
proporcionara los necesitados espacios de aulas yaprendizaje
para los estudiantes del MDC, y servini de sede a conferencias,
reuniones y eventos culturales. El College se propone reubicar
varias de sus iniciativas de capacitacion y programas
educacionales al edificio renovado. El prestigioso Centro de
Derecho, la Escuela de Arquitectura, el Instituto de Modas de
Miami y otros importantes programas del College tendran su
sede 0 usaran la hist6rica edificaci6n.
La construccion del Edificio Dyer, ubicado en el 300 NE
Primera Avenida, frente al fIoreciente Campus Wolfson del
MDC, comenzo en 1931 y, al igual que la Torre de la
Libertad del MDC, esta considerado como una obra maestra
del estilo arquitectonico Resurgimiento Mediterraneo. Fue
proyectado por los famosos arquitectos Phineas E. Paist y
Harold D. Steward, e inaugurado oficialmente en 1933. Es
