The Challenger Story

Do you have a little sibling ? Well if you do
we have baby book club . And if you do
have a little brother or sister that is four or
younger we invite them to come to the next
baby book club meeting .The book that were
read in English was Pete the cat I love my
white shoes and the Spanish book that was
read was Semana de Cookie. Pete the cat
came and we took pictures with him! But if
you missed baby book club stay tuned for
the next Baby Book Club meeting.
Have you ever looked at the McAuliffe
Newsletter and thought that grown-ups
wrote it? Well if you did, you are wrong!
Eight kids in 4th grade write the McAuliffe
Newsletter. Now let me tell you the story
about how we became The Challenger!
Ms. Thadani actually wrote the newsletter
all by herself and the newsletter was never
sent home. One day Norberto asked Ms.
Thadani if he could help write a story for
the newsletter. Then word got around, we
started writing stories and started sending
newsletters home. That’s the big boom
story and how we created The Challenger!

Red Banner Winners

Pete the Cat at McAuliffe
Red Banner is for students that follow the
seven habits when teachers are looking
and when they are not looking. Red Banner winners choose to be kind and they do
not bully people. Red Banner winners get a
banner and a paper with their name on it
Red banner winners also get to be on
broadcast. Red banner winners get voted
on by the students. Each class has a Red
Banner winner. Maybe one day you can be
a Red Banner winner, too!

Principal’s Note

February 24 — 27 is the State Writing Test
for 5th Grade. Students will be taking two
tests this year—a field test and the actual
test. The field test gives students an opportunity to practice, but will not be scored. We
will not be informed about which test will be
the field test and which one will be the actual
test. Please make sure students are prepared
for the test!
Please remember to read with your child
every night for at least 20 minutes! After
your child finishes, take a few moments to
discuss what your child has read. The more
children read and talk about their reading,
the more they will grow as readers!
Once upon a time in Massachusetts there
was a high school teacher and she had a other job. Her other job was going to space. Her
rocket was brand new and it was called the
Challenger. Something went out of control
on January 28 1986 and after 73 seconds the
Challenger exploded and that’s why are
schools called McAuliffe. Everyone was crying and in shock. Everyone watched the challenger go down. Because she was a teacher
in space she helped her students learn about
NASA.

If you didn’t know the adult in the front
office. Her name is Mrs. Luz. Mrs. Luz is our
secretary for the school. Mrs. Luz says
“McAuliffe is a great school because they
offer a lot of leadership roles”. Mrs. Luz was
very excited to work at McAuliffe. Mrs.
Smith says “Mrs. Luz is very efficient and
helpful with parents and families Mrs. Luz is
also very funny”. Did you know Mrs. Luz has
three kids that attend at McAuliffe?
Most of you don’t know Mrs. Jen, right?
I’m going to tell you what I know about
her. She has had more than one nursing
job for kids. She is always busy, mostly
after P.E. and recess. She says that she
loves her job because the kids make her
laugh. In her other job she helps sick
babies. Mrs. Jen is a really nice person.
When I get sick or hurt I’m going to Mrs.
Jen.

Leader in Me
Banking with the 7 Habits

In Ms. Stark’s class they do banking with the 7 habits. Banking with the 7 habits is when
one of the students does a habit and then they get a token. By the end of the week if they
get five tokens, they get a small prize like 20 jumps on a trampoline or playing a game with
friends or a teacher. If they get 10 tokens they can go to the computer lab. Ms. Starck and
Mrs. Valencia says, “We celebrate our classroom leaders who are practicing the 7 Habits
daily. This allows our Pre-k leaders to learn and have an active understanding of the 7 Habits.” Banking with the 7 habits is a great way to be a leader.

¿Tienes un hermano pequeño? Bueno, si
tienes, tenemos un club de lectura para
los bebes. Y si tiene un hermanito o hermanita que tiene cuatro años o menos los
invitamos a venir a la próxima reunión del
club libro para los bebes. El libro que se
lee en Inglés fue Pete the Cat I Love My
White Shoes y el libro en español fue
Semana de Cookie. Pete the Cat vino y nos
tomamos fotos con él! Pero si te perdiste
club de lectura bebé permanezca atento a
la próxima reunión del Club de Leer con
bebes.
¿Alguna vez has mirado en el noticias de

de liderazgo ". La señora Luz estaba muy
emocionado de trabajar en McAuliffe. Sra.

La mayoría de ustedes no saben la señora
Jen, ¿verdad? Voy a decirte lo que sé de
ella. Ha tenido más de un empleo de
enfermería para los niños. Ella está siempre ocupada, sobre todo después de educación física y el recreo. Dice que le encanta su trabajo porque los niños hacen
reír. En su otro trabajo que ayuda a los
bebés enfermos. Sra. Jen es una persona
muy agradable. Cuando me enfermo o

En la clase de la señorita Stark ellos la banca con los 7 hábitos. Banca con los 7 hábitos
es cuando uno de los estudiantes hace un hábito y luego obtener un token. Al final de la
semana si se ponen cinco fichas, obtienen un premio pequeño como 20 saltos en un
trampolín o jugar un juego con amigos o un maestro. Si ellos reciben 10 fichas que
puedan ir al laboratorio de computación. Srta Starck y la señora Valencia dice: " Celebramos nuestros líderes en el salon que están practicando los 7 hábitos diarios. Esto
permite a nuestros líderes Pre-K para aprender y tener una comprensión activa de los 7
